According to Rock, in the part of the scene where he and Roman threw their clubs at Brixtons mercenaries they weren't actually meant to throw them, just move like they were throwing them and let the stunt guys do the rest. Only thing is Roman threw his and accidentally knocked the stunt guy out. Oops.

Natives often wore primitive armor made of leather and bone before being introduced to gunpowder. After gunpowder, many of them actually stopped using armor completely because they realized that the only distance they could be effective in was arms length and started using rush tactics. These guys had access to metal and welding tools. They could have easily scrapped together some crude armor; yet they chose not to, probably due to the same reasons their anscestors didn't.

I love when hobbs/the rock is like the lead fighter, of the whole samoan warriors, I really like dwayne johnson I'm a huge fan of the actor too, I wish that I can be strong like him!!!
