One thing I've noticed on just about all kayaks, any brand, is that this Hobie PA-14 has a great seat that also has arm rests. It may not seem like a big deal, but, if you're on the water for hours, it is very nice to have arm rests. I also like the PA-14 open deck area in front of the seat. Lots of room to not only stand but also turn around and not have to worry about stepping on something. A great craft for sure ! Expensive, but, sort of the Cadilac of fishing kayaks, IMO.
@RogerFordTheSmilingBassHole
Roger -- love the name! (It's mine too!) Another plus on the armrests for me is getting out of the PA. They help haul my fat, old butt up!

Outback! Plenty enough for me. Weighs less. Pedals faster and plenty stable for me. Only way I’d get a PA is if I get a trailer. Don’t get me wrong, PA is a beast. But that weight deterred me away from it. That internal rod storage and overall room around the kayak is phenomenal.

I love my PA!! My favorite kayak out there but, my outback has its purpose for sure!!
@RogerFordTheSmilingBassHole
The PA IS heavy. Mine was in for repair and my fishing buddy (who purchased my previous Outback) loaned me the Outback back so I could keep fishing -- he has another paddle kayak and I'm retired so fish nearly every day. The Outback was such a pleasure pulling out of the water that I seriously considered trading down, but instead went to the PA 14 and a trailer! PLUS I do have a Dynamic Dolly which makes moving the heavier kayaks SO much easier.

Both are phenomenal kayaks . I have been super impressed with the Outback on multiple occasions . It turns on a dime ! Specially with the drive from the PA in it ... Producing the same wake as a 40 lb thrust trolling motor lol 😆 Sweet video bro 👍

Excellent breakdown! Certainly each is a pleasure to fish from. MORE ROOM I went from an Outback to a PA 12 360. Wow! I met a guy who had the PA 14 360. I worried about the extra weight. He said he was coming from a bass boat so wanted the larger Hobie for the space. NOW I've upgraded to the PA 14 -- and got a trailer. Now just need to relearn how to back one up! It's been 40 years since I backed a trailer. But I also have the Dynamic Dolly, so if necessary I can scoot the kayak onto the dolly and move it that way. PADDLING You are absolutely right about the Outback being easier to paddle. My drive on the PA 12 360 "stuck" and I had to paddle back. SO wide! On my 14 I'll have a Bixpy motor, so that should also help if I have another drive issue. CENTER HATCH I also prefer the bin to that pop-up tackle system. The pop-up just has too much wasted space, IMO. KAYAK KUSHIONS The Hobie Vantage seat is awesome, but even so, my butt got sore after 6 hours or more. So I tried a Kayak Kushion. Now I recommend them all the time! Butt ache disappeared immediately! Keep up the great work! Roger, The Smiling BassHole

I doubt I'll ever not be in a Hobie
@RogerFordTheSmilingBassHole
@@BASSnBEER Right there with you! I do love learning about other kayaks. And sometimes wish Hobie had some of the features of others. But I don't think I could ever go back to a paddle kayak (my first kayak was a Perception Striker -- a good deal for $500!), but I was never very good at paddling. And I like the mirage drive. I'm 70, so hope to have a few more years before I have to hang up my rods! I wish there had been these types of kayaks during my younger days. I was a float tube guy for decades. Kept moving up. Ended with a Hobie Float Cat 75. I was working at an Orvis shop on Saturdays (I was a legal secretary during the week), and I got 50% off all fishing products sold at the shop. So I paid around $400, and then 20 years later sold it for almost that same amount! The Hobie Cat had 2 hard pontoons and a seat in the center. Much higher out of the water than traditional float tubes. AND it had oars. The kayaks are much faster! Hope to be back out on the water in the next month or so. Keep posting!

Its a real nice kayak ..nice peddle drive and super stable for me ..im 6'4 230lb.. i also put a 55lb newport electric trolling motor on it and it will go around 4 mph. i just wish the season was longer up here..the kayak fishing season goes quick here living in Alaska.

@BASSnBEER Год назад
@Roger Ford there just a little bigger and heavier then other kayaks it's really what you can handle...if it's a ton of shoals may need to go smaller...I'll always have both...my PA's then a really skinny water kayak
@RogerFordTheSmilingBassHole
@@BASSnBEER Yes! That Outback is superior for "skinny water." I fish small lakes and ponds, and NO moving water (current is my enemy!). But both are awesome!
@RogerFordTheSmilingBassHole
@@BASSnBEER Right! I fish small lakes and ponds. NO CURRENT! Current is evil. But for skinny water I agree the Outback is awesome. And the kickup fins are great!

How do you store your PA and Outback? I have the compass and it’s not terrible to take off my truck and support upside down on the gunnels resting on crossbars. I would imaging it would be tough to store the pa easily unless you get the cradles from hobie and store it upright on a trailer so the hull doesn’t deform. Ease of loading/unloading is critical to not destroy your back and I find that and the comfort of the seat to be the most important things to me in a kayak.
@BASSnBEER
@BASSnBEER Год назад
My PA 12 just sits on a rack on the side of my porch and my PA 14 stays on the trailer 90% of the time! No cradles or anything

@@ArizonaMMJ did you get a newer pa14 you're going to have a kick up drive so if you're in shallower water it's going to kick up instead of messing anything up you're going to have way more space in a pa14 or pa-12 your seat sits higher and you've just going to be more comfortable the Outback is great as well but it is a smaller setup the Pas have a 5 and 600 lb weight capacity where the Outback is about 400 450

That's the kind of water I fish - I'm 6'1", 210 but also 66 years old. I have both - an Outback and a PA14. PA goes in the truck first - the stability is phenomenal. Lots of storage space - everything you need and most of what you want. I stand up in it with no issues. It's a beast on land, but a fishing machine on the water. But it's heavy. I use a bed extender, built a rolling cart at truck bed level and have the large Hobie Wheeleez cart so there is no lifting for me. Easy. The 180 works great, unless you are in very confined spaces you won't need the 360.

Thanks for the video. Is the PA really 8” taller than the Outback? That’s what I’m seeing for the specs on Hobie’s website, but I’m struggling to see how it can be that much taller. It only looks a couple inches taller. Asking for storage purposes. Thank you.
