I am 73 and live in Japan on the entrance to Tokyo Bay looking for a good pedal kayak. I have been in contact with the local Hobie office and am impressed with their service. Your review has sold me on the 12 vice 10.5 without sales promotion comments. You touched on material flexiblility and surf launching which is exactly the information I was looking for. Knocking rudder down was a question I had that no video I've found to this point touched on. Thank you!

Interesting opening comments on a 13 foot 30" wide kayak. I am wanting Hobie to stretch out the Revo 13 & 16 models by 9" to 1 foot and increase the width by one inch and add a rectangle center hatch. This would make the Revo 13 right at 30" wide. I believe it would make both kayaks faster and increase stability.

To be honest, I absolutely love the dimension of the Revo 13. If I were to change 1 thing, It would be narrowing the kayak 0.5 inches to 28 inches. I think 13.5 feet length provides good speed without compromising portability. The truth is 13.5 feet is the maximum length that I can store at my home 😂🤣.

@@MooMooOutdoorsThanks for the feedback. Looking at Hobie's track record many are saying either this year or next year they will be revamping the Revo following the revamping of the Outback. As with the Outback any changes to the Revo would be welcomed by some and hated by others lol. Take care sir.

Updating a Revo is long overdue I think. They pretty much didn't change the hull for over a decade. When they do revamp it, I hope I can store it at my home 😆😆.

When I first saw that kayak, I thought it looked like a great option! Seems like it's a great kayak for the price! My wife has been wanting to get one like this. I'm not convinced she's going to use it enough but we'll see. I better not let her see this video or she'll be wanting this one 😂

Thanks bud I think I’m going too try this one over the new foot paddle kayak that I’m waiting for u too make on the new vibe foot paddle this one seems too fit my budget great video keep them coming. Would this kayak be good for the ocean and for sturgeon of course the type of fishing that you do?

Yes, this would be good for all the fishing that I do for someone on a budget. Like I said in passport 10.5 video, the bow end sits a bit lower on the water so you might get more water coming over on to the deck in choppy conditions which I don't mind at all.

I agree, a 13’ long, 30” wide Passport, or even better, a Compass, would be the sh!t, but a 14’ something long, 29” wide Revolution would be my dream! I love my Revo 16, but it can get sketchy with a lot of gear, and a big tuna on big water. Also, the front hatch on the 16 isn’t easily accessible. Going to trade it in soon for a Revo 13, unless Hobie comes out with an updated Revo line of kayaks for 2021.

I would love to have a Revo 16 in my fleet but I do not have a storage for it. My Revo 13 barely fits. But, I do like the idea of 14 foot and change long Revo.

@@MooMooOutdoors okay. Great. It seems like the Outbacks take a lot of water over the bow... especially the later models. I was all set to get an Outback 2020 and then a buddy of mine changed my mind. It doesn't seem like there is a perfect kayak out there. They all seem to have good and bad points. For now I'm gonna stick with the junker I have... I'm kind of digging it so far. Cost me a whopping $234 before taxes... 🤣😂🤣😂

Great vid, prob rather a compass. But gets pricey an for what i want looks good. Few mods. Had a cheaper pedalfish 10 but yer was noisy n felt like might give up any minute, plus rudder cable issues. Passport looks solid cheers.

Based on your ocean experience, what would you recommend for a sea worthy with good secondary stability pedal kayak under $2000? Not looking for a fishing kayak. We are currently thinking that the Passport 12 R might be the best compromise.

Yes Passport 12 would be a good choice for under $2000 especially now with the Hobie sale. Also look for used Revo 13, Compass, Outback. Oldtown Salty would be a real good option if you don't mind the prop drive and if you can find a used one. I have not tried but FeelFree Moken 12 pedal drive and Lightning Nomad could be good options too.

@@MooMooOutdoors outback is too heavy. It would be a second kayak on a roof rack with my Swell Scupper. I have not found the others in Southern California at reasonable prices. Thanks again for being one of the best content generators out there. I find your content reasonable and reliable. Not driven by giveaways from manufacturers as far as I can tell.

Nice review Moo. You make an important point regarding the weight for cartopping and transporting. There are some really good kayaks available that I would never consider because they are too heavy. If you are launching over sand it can be hard work getting the yak to the water even on a cart with sand tyres.

Yes, as long as you are going forward the rudder will come up. The rudder system is my least favorite part of this kayak.

Topwater 120 PDL and Passport 12.0 is a different animal in my opinion. It will depend what a individual kayaker want out the the boat. As for me, I prefer lighter and narrower kayak since I cartop my kayak 99% of the time and I prefer speed/efficiency over primary stability. That's why my main kayak is Revo 13 and I want to see Hobie to come out with 13 foot and 30 inch wide Passport. If you are a bigger person who needs extra primary stability or someone who simply wants extra stable kayak, Topwater would be a better fit. Topwater 120 is the most affordable kayak in it's "big kayak" class (with Hobie ProAngler and Native Titan) and a great option for those who are looking for extra stable kayak in my opinion.

Cool thing about Hobie stow rudder is that when it hits the ground while going forward it will just lift up without getting damaged as long as the rudder is not locked in (no locking option on passport). I keep the rudder down when I'm surf landing during high surf for extra tracking.

Yes I would since this actually paddles better than Outback in my opinion but you'll have a lot of water over the bow since the bow seats lower to the water.

I recommend Outback if you are serious bass angler. More primary stability so much easier to stand and fish. Also, better for rigging especially if you want to install side scan or live.

I didn't have the gps but passport felt faster getting up to speed due to haul design and the weight. As far as the top speed, I'm not sure.

The kayak itself might not fit you well because I'm at 2nd or 3rd notch with my Revo 13 but I had to go 4th notch with passport 12.0 on the mirage drive. Standing up shouldn't be an issue but the chair does sit a little low and does not have height adjustment. How much do you weigh?

It probably wouldn't be that hard to make a lifting mechanism attached to some cord and a cleat, same with lowering, it wouldn't be hard.

I just bought the 12r version, immediately changed the rudder, hull slap is non effing stop, does hobie even test these things

@@israelrivas134 It all depends on personal need but passport 12.0 has plenty of stability in my opinion. As you know I fish out of Revo 13 and I prefer narrower kayak than wide kayak with more primary stability. A master kayaker once said "there is no tippy kayak, only tippy kayaker." 😉
