Great summary thanks! I have the same kayak. I put mine forward into my truck bed, easy to load and remove. As long as you have a 5 1/2’ bed it works fine. I had two issues, rudder cord broke, a pulley wore it out after a year, Hobie sent me replacements. A plastic part on my drive broke where it mounts. Same occurred to a buddy’s Hobie, still works fine. Love my Hobie, about 25 keeper flounder so far this year!

I agree 100%. Hobie is way out the box for a molded plastic boat. They are a giant corporation and profits are their priority, never mind if the little guy can afford their product.

I have a 2016 n is most likely the most custom Yak out there. Set up for night fishing n launching by myself is a plus. Only thing I don't have is a live well, tried the Hobies n they are junk IMHO. Boonedox Tbones only work if you have less weight than mine own. Maybe this winter I'll put a video for you guys n girls out there. I have close to $8500 into mine n manyyy hrs of custom rigging, not found anywhere. Everywhere I g I get a crowd checking out my ride. It's far too heavy to use with a pkup, so gotta trailer it, n building a lower trailer this winter. Pas are not lite Yaks, but I love it n can go where others only dream about. Leggings boots for cold water is a must if you like spring n fall fishing. I have (4) different batteries so if one goes down they all won't n at night that's a veryyy big deal IMHO. If wired n setup professionally you won't ever have that scenario ever happen. I love fishing into the dark when everyone else is fighting to get out before dark. That's the best fishing of the day other than mornings. I am 60s with multiple spinal injuries n the ride is very good n helps m stay active, as pain 24/7/365 sucks. Go try one out n see if it's for you, you can stand with a stand up bar, but atleast with myself, I am shaky as my balance isn't the greatest now. They told me I may never again walk, n use to snowboard every weekend n field mechanic too. So if you have ole dog days, just do it n never regret buying one.

Spot on with the review! I love my 16 PA12 and was actually thinking of sell it or trading it for a regular paddle fishing kayak and I'm glad to hear it isn't too bad to paddle. I went to a local Field and Stream and saw they have carbon fiber paddles in 250cm length for 99.00 so grabbed one and we'll see how it works out. (lost one half of the Hobie paddle at a tournament 2 weeks after I bought it) and never paddled it but found I like fishing in the slop so now have the best of both worlds I guess.

I did another review after 150 trips with more info. I am now past 200 and love this kayak more each time I use it. So far only things I have replaced are a set of fins because I fish on shallow Oyster reefs and I had one idler chain break on my drive. Once you get past the original purchase they are cheap to keep on the water. Thanks for watching.

I need some advice. I purchased a 2020 hobie outback but i was thinking i should had gotten a Pro Angler. I wanted to try ocean fishing and want to know which would be better for that type of scenario? If i can get away with my outback, it would be great but if not, then i rather be safe than sorry.
@SRadigFishing

I think an Outback would be fine. Most people I have talked to like the Outback for trying to get past the surf on a beach launch. I have never tried ocean fishing but hope to soon. Good Luck!

I'm the same build as you, how is standing up in it? Are you able to and what's the stability like when you do. See bunch of guys in the 100 to 200 lb range stand on the tip and all over with no problems, just curious for us bigger guys.
@SRadigFishing
@SRadigFishing 5 лет назад
I am at 99 trips now and have stayed top side up so far! I can stand but very rarely do because I don't balance well. My son is 5 foot 10 and about 260, he stands and casts all the time in his PA 12. I don't trust myself but will try more now that the water is warming up again.

How do you put the wheels on when you get out of the water? Do you lay the kayak on its side?
@SRadigFishing
@SRadigFishing 4 года назад
I only use the wheels to get it back and forth from my shed. I have been launching from a spot where you can back right up to the water. The few times I put the wheels on at a launch I had to have someone help me lift the kayak.

Great review and I’m guessing you Fish a lot of shallow water just from a couple of your comments. I’m in a part of Florida that the water is shallow with lots of oyster bars, and always wonder about using their drive system.. This looks like the ultimate fishing yak,, thanks so much for your great review!!! W
@SRadigFishing
@SRadigFishing 6 лет назад
I push the limits of the drive system and find it held up good. The only time I bend the posts is when I am full speed in murky water and can't see rocks or stumps. When I know the terrain I can manage just fine. Now I carry an extra fin and shaft since that of coarse I haven't had a problem.

I don't have a pick-up truck, so the weight was a definite issue for me. I also like to go to some places that there's no room for parking a trailer so I have to car top load. The Outback is a pretty nice vessel also, but it's not as stable. I flipped my Outback last year, but that was at least 99% my own fault. lol

I would love to have both, I chose the 12 because of mostly truck hauling and two feet less sticking out. If I was always using a trailer I would have got the 14. There is no wrong choice here.

@SRadigFishing
@SRadigFishing 5 лет назад
In this video I was using a 1997 shortbed chevy with 6 foot 6 inch bed. I now use a 2014 with just a 6 foot bed. I used to use a harbor freight bed extender but after a while I just use the bed and tailgate on the 2014 with no problems at all. The bed extender was just more hassle than good.

@@SRadigFishing isn’t the Hobie more peaceful? Just seems such a cool setup with so many choices for customization on the Hobie. Main reason I thought about the See Doo was the Hobie is so pricy it’s almost potentially a few thousand more to jump to the See Doo.
@SRadigFishing

I like that rack you built out of pvc. What are the dimensions of it? I'm thinking of making one myself.
@SRadigFishing
@SRadigFishing 6 лет назад
I built it for 2 Tarpon 140, but the Hobie's barely fit. It is 5 feet long and 36 inches wide. I will try to get the exact detentions to you soon.
@SRadigFishing
@SRadigFishing 6 лет назад
Got the exact dimensions for you. It is 36 inches wide inside dimensions and 28 inches center to center tall between racks. Five foot long. I have two three inch PVC pipes on top rack 12 inch apart to hold top boat, just haven't brought pieces for bottom boat. I would go a little wider and taller if I built another, cut the ten foot pipes in thirds after removing end coupler would die a few more inches each way and maximize pipe usage.
