Hobie boats coast as much as they do because of all the added accessories and outfitting Hobie includes in their products and the boats themselves will last you a very very long time if properly maintained and cared for.
i just bought the Hobie Revolution 11. you can fish off of it but isn't as stable as the pro angler. i used it once so far and the sail kit with it. only reason i didn't get the pro angler is because i go on rivers to sight see and snorkel but if i get another kayak, it will be a pro angler for sure. even though they are expensive you can go places a boat cannot get to and still have a lot of accessories you can add. well worth the money.
What you need to look at are your local regulations. I believe all 50 sates in the US require a fishing license for anyone over the age of 16 and at least in Austin, a lifejacket has to be on your boat at all times and you should be wearing it, just to be safe.
You said it. It's more boat than yak imo. Im not a fanboy of anything and I love my PA12 now looking to put a ipilot trolling motor on it for more range and function. Once that is done ill be in pure heaven. You're right though it is fairly heavy. Especially after a long day but good thing the cart exists, but I think the cart could and should be improved some.
Yes there's one thing. I know no one can go against the laws of physics but still the boat is extremely heavy... No matter what they say it's still very heavy for one person to carry...
and worth the money. Ill take my PA over any boat. The only thing is range. Till you put a motor on it. Still cheaper than a boat and I can get in spots many boats can't. You're right though you really can't find all the functionality in a PA unless you own one and spend quality time with it. Once you do you won't care about much else unless you are hindered by the range of ground you can cover.

Yeah expesive. I realize you get all this convience but for the price of the 2014 I could rebuy my 10ft pelican a bigger trolling motor and a trailer and be able to fit a second person.
