I dont know anything about kayaks, i fish from a fiberglass bass boat, BUT, i want a kayak for smaller bodies of water, having said this, this yak looks perfect!~:)

Are you serious? I was waiting for this yes. I think they nailed it, and it's a bit heavier than the thermoformed which will be discontinued. At only $1,600, what's not to love?

i watched a few other vids on the passport R and its apparently a few hundred dollars cheaper and its more durable i do wish they would make a super cheap lynx model tho because they are 4k here in australia wich is ridiculous for a kayak that im taking through a river with massive rocks and fallen trees under the water where it would be banged about over time i think they should look at 3d printing their kayaks to bring the price way down

Welp. I will say I’m kinda glad they may be phasing out the thermoformed approach though. To me, that cheapened the brand. The one thing that I DO really like about this is that it’s an awesome price point for Hobie. You really can’t argue with a sub-$2k “baby outback”, especially as freaking expensive as the others have gotten. This is definitely a boat I’d consider for my kids.

Yea I guess that is the bright side way to look at it, at least they didn't raise the price which they almost always do every year.

@@BlueSummitOutdoors Right! I watched Aliex’s video on it too, and ultimately he came to the same conclusion-this is a price point play. I don’t want to buy one for myself, but I think Hobie is smart for offering a boat that’s closer to entry level pricing. Lock in customers at that dollar amount & then keep ‘em brand loyal over the years. What would have been really exciting for icast this year would have been this PLUS another announcement-any of the speculative things we all thought of.

Yea same I doubt they release anything new. They typically don’t update/upgrade their kayaks every year like some.

What is actually the price for the 12’? And what the actually improved?

$1649 for the 10.5R and $1869 for the 12R. From what I can tell the material is the only difference coming from Thermoformed plastic to Rotomolded plastic with the R-Series.

Let down for people who have kayaks already but great for people who can't afford the higher end hobies. Now you can get a 12 ft roto molded hobie pedal drive kayak for 1899$ much safer than the 2 piece amd will be usable in the ocean.

These aren’t really fishing kayaks. They’re unstable, seat is too low, lack of front hatch/storage, non-deployable rudder, no reverse. All of the above should be a standard at this point.
