it,s a factor, but NHL players are better and faster too so.. the main difference to me is it's way more physical! You often see it when players spent all their lives in Europe until they jump in the NHL, they get rocked a lot!

@@sam93931 NHL has good teams, but the only country on that continent to have a good national team is Canada. Some American players are good but the majority of the best players are either Russian, Canadian, Swedish, Finnish or Eastern European. The reason why Hockey doesn't hold the same standard here is because most of the best players go to the NHL. Edit: Sweden has some of the best players in the world even when the sport isn't even the most popular.

No you don't NEED that it ALLOWED to have a player who police the other team. (The game and all the new technology police the game.) So no we don't NEED it. Furthermore. Your argument that it's safer that way it's just flawed. The idea that some of the player are allowed to play "over the line"it was make some of the player aim for the best players in the other team (as a tactic) just to take them out. (I know they going to punish me for it but that´s a price I am willing to pay) We win in the long run - Their best player gets an injury. So ones again. No, that idea you have (police by violence) NEVER going to stop that tactic. That's just a bad approach. And I bet you realize this deep inside. There must be something else going on, isn't it?! You like it and need a valid argument to keep it in hockey?! If you like that ingredients because you... well... like it in the same way that some people like boxing, just say that instead of trying to find a more politically correct argument. It doesn't fly. People see through this. (Regardless of our opinions on the matter.) I for one don't agree but then at least I can respect the thought process behind your argument. (You already realised that the "police our self" doesn't work in the society when it comes to gun.) It's just a small step to come the same epiphany in the hockey context. Just ponder some more on how to get with of the unnecessary headinjurys and you might see the light. Okay?! 😉😊👍

So why did 99.5 percent of NHL players vote to keep fighting in the NHL in 2016? Do they just like fighting ? Do you think the SHL players would vote to keep it out if polled? Really? @@AndrewAustin, you will find fighting in Swedish hockey too. @@AndrewAustin Still a flawed argument The player like the game - And to be frank... Doesn't understand or are to young to care about the consequences. Trust me I had a couple of one big ones myself in a similar situations - And still wanted to play the next games. (Now I´m not only retired from all sports, I have a severe disability because of this. ) Took me a couple of year before that situation was clear to me. So please, before you start your argument like you know best. Understand that some of your viewer might have more experience. The fact is this: I played hockey (at best in the league just below SHL or ELITSERIEN) Had some injuries who halted my carrier. (Didn't even understand that my headinjurys was a big issue) It took some time and than it was to late. That's why I replied to your video Your reply to me?!: Did you see it ?! What a stupid question?! No I just replied on the content anyway. I am clairvoyant. (Read: YES I DID SEE IT). Just so you understand to full picture. I played a bunch of games against canadian teams (I loved to play physical and therefore really loved that type of teams - I basically was the playmaker and the police in one individual)) They played ugly as hell - And I loved to take them on because of it! So I'm not accepting your argument that player want this. (I did to.) Understand the consequences. I was young and I played a lot of games (at the top level for my age). Plenty of times with player who became Swedish national team player. (Some of them even played in the NHL). My headinjurys stopped me from playing at my full potential. (When I turned 34 years old I was declared pensioneer.) And I now have big troubles handling basically everything in my life do to this injuries. Believe me - I do know exactly what I'm talking about in this particular case. And I am sorry, but you don't! (But that's okay. You're entitled to your opinion).

Interesting Clip! I think that the Swedish Hockey is more about possession while NHL is more focused on getting the puck to the net...this is (in part) due to the bigger ice...teams can dominate eachother with puck controll "easier" in SHL compared to NHL where there is rarely 5 passes within the team(since it is a more cramped space to play on)....also, your comment on speed of game needs to take the "bigger ice" in to account....Another point is that SHL is very dependant on all players beeing very good defensively...if you are bad at backchecking it will impact the result more in SHL than in NHL due to the bigger ice giving more space to the attacking team.....Since I am used to "our" way of playing the game I prefer it to the NHL way which to me seems like a big skirmish without tactics......obviously there IS tactics in the NHL but I find the smaller ice in Northamerica destroys the beuty of the game...and yes...NHL has better/edgier players than in SHL but I would prefer that we kept our style of playing...:-)...once again, good video!

Swedes have been some of the best skaters in hockey for a very long time. Back in the day the Canadians thought they were the best of the best but when Canadian teams met Swedish teams it was usually a steamroll. Canadians played like it was mud wrestling. I'm perfectly fine with fighting in hockey as a part of the game... But as a means of control is a God damn stupid argument, I'm sorry. What would REALLY make bullies and cheaters stop making illegal hits would be to suspend them *without pay* and fine them... And I mean *fine* them, like a percentage of their earnings, 20k dollars to someone making 20m is nothing. The problem is that getting your ass kicked doesn't scare a hockey player, especially not one who fights dirty. Hitting his wallet is a way more painful punishment and it also takes them out of the spotlight. I played hockey for a little over a decade and trust me, the least effective way to stop someone from doing bad shit was to insinuate that you'd kick his ass, 99% of the time it was taken as a challenge and made shit even worse. I say keep the fighting, I'm all for a guy getting his lumps if he's an asshole but make the punishment for illegal hits an actual punishment if you wanna keep dangerous hits down. The rules are there to be followed. There are of course degrees, I'm not saying you should be suspended for a tripping but if you willfully and on purpose elbow someone in the face or tackle someone at the kneecaps etc you need to get the fuck out of the stadium the same way a boxer kicking his opponent in the balls should get him disqualified. This is why soccer is the most pathetic sport on earth, they actually encourage cheating, pay them bonuses if they dive and make it look convincing... Maradona punching the ball to score a winning goal gets nicknamed "The hand of God"... Fuck that sport, fuck that cheater, he should have been banned for life. And anyone who defends shit like that can bite me. This was probably my only point of contention 🤣 otherwise you're pretty much on thee money. Awesome video, ma'dude 👊😎👍 Keep up the good work.

I'd say the biggest difference is that the SHL is an open league, and NHL is a locked one. You can theoratically play in a unknown team in the backyard division and climb all way up to SHL and become the best team in Sweden. Lately this has changed abit, used to be that the 2 teams that placed last just went out of the leauge for next season (downranked to 2nd tier division 'Allsvenskan'), but now they play a best-of-7 against the top teams from Allsvenskan. So its become harder to get up to SHL, (not even counting all rules about economy and arena capacity), but its still posible (atleast in theory). Whereas in NHL, its a HUGE thing to add a new team or if a team has to move, and it also feels way more commersial.

Hockey varies in Sweden. If a town has a team that play in division 1, allsvenskan, SHL then hockey will be a big deal there but if the teams in the town aren't good, then it wont be as popular. It´s not really fair to compare these leagues because in the NHL it the best players from all over the world not just americans and in the SHL it´s mostly swedish player and the rest is foreign guys that didn´t make it in to the NHL. And all the talented youngsters in the league most of them go over to NHL after maybe 1 to 4 seasons in SHL, the SHL teams never gets to keep their young talented guys. But I can understand that the atmosphere in the arenas over there is amazing because it´s so much bigger, more people. Side note: Their is a Champions hockey League in Europe with teams from all the leagues in Europe. It has existed since 2015 and my favorite team Frölunda has won it 3 times and is in the final for this season. Side note again: Not to sound cocky but Sweden is better in hockey than USA. Sweden has 11 gold medals in the World Championships and USA has 2 in 1933 and 1960.

In the past, transatlantic teams were also known to start fighting because certain Swedish, Russian / Soviet teams were too good for them.

I never said Swedes can’t skate fast, but on average not all SHL players skate with the same speed. I find nhl games faster on average. IMO fighting makes players safer on the ice and a majority of nhl players agree with me as it has been voted on. There are a few documentaries that cover this that are interesting . I’m against fighting as a form of entertainment, but yeah if a guy puts a hit on Conner, Crosby or another star they will have to answer for that hit.

ofc the NHL is faster. all good players in the SHL goes to the NHL. there are like 80 swedish players there. swedes make up like 10% of the NHL player base. which is a lot considering our population is smaller than the bigger cities in the US. whats funny tho, is that hockey isnt even the biggest sport here. soccer is way more popular, we just suck at it.

I would like for you to compare the political system especally that religion has such an important impact and here we have the church nearly cut out of society. Bacause religion and politics should never be together. And how does this two party system in US function. Is it democratic? Only two parties? Like your honesty and your thoughts on things. And checking everytime something comes up.

I've never been to hockey in USA but in my opinion the biggest difference is like that hockey in America is more like business and entertainment. Attending a hockey game in America, you probably do for having a good time, like cinema or something like that. That's not really the way in Sweden/Europe. Here I would say you attend a game to support your local team to a victory( of course people go to hockey because it's fun too) but not in the same way. I think it's more passion for your team and even your town. (Sometimes the hockey team is the only thong you have in your town. Like Leksand in the SHL. I think their arena is bigger then their town.) For instance I've never heard of american hockey fans take a day off for work to sit in a bus for hours to support your team in a away game. That's the biggest difference I think. And also that we have relegation between leagues makes it more exciting. In America you buy a place in the league. That's fake for me.

The biggest difference is that we have promotion and relegation while you in NHL buy a spot, just like Las Vegas and not Seattle have done. That means that fans in NHL never suffer the same way. A bad season in NHL is missing play off. While here, we get relegated.

Hi Andrew! The World Cup and World Championships in ice hockey are two different titles and tournaments. World Cup is the Canada Cup renamed and the NHL seems to decide randomly when will the next World Cup happen. World Championships is the annual tournament between nation teams that is held after national (former amateur) leagues have finished their seasons. It's held at the same time with NHL playoffs because up to 1990s it was a tournament to amateur players. They lifted the restriction to professional players as more and more players in national leagues became fulltime ice hockey players. Before the restriction lift American and Canadian teams were populated by university players.

If you can’t play a game without fighting...don’t call it icehockey, call it Stupid Icehockey Fight Club 🤦🏻‍♀️ I recommend you to talk to a trauma surgeon/neurologist/neurosurgeon/people working with brain injuries/rehab etc about how dangerous a “simple fight” is. It’s enough to cause life long cognitive and physical brain injuries.
@AndrewAustin
@AndrewAustin 4 года назад
I get all of this but the Data seems to suggest that the majority of head trauma in hockey is from dangerous checks. I don’t think fighting should be in hockey as entertainment as it use to. For example a guy who is just there to fight. I’m all for that out of the game. I do think the game is safer if a player can still challenge or fight another player if they don’t like a dirty hit. Most of the Star players say it protects their career. I’m for it because I want the game to stay safer.

NHL is harder and more intense. But a lot of the difference is about the size of the rinkside. Since they made SHL rinkside smaller, it's more intense. And of course it's a difference in the culture, but soon it's less difference.

There is a Champions League type of tournament in Europe called CHL where a number of teams (32 in total) from the best leagues in Europe (13 leagues) competes against eachother in a group stage + playoff format. KHL (Russia) isn't part of it yet but in the pipline. CHL is very new (introduced 2014) so not fully established yet but it's growing. In the 5 years it's been going on a Swedish team has won it 4 times. Frölunda FC have won it 3 times (2015-16, 2016-17 & 2018-19) and currently the most successful team in CHL's short history.

Actually they tried it years ago too. But as I remember it a lot of the games became rediculously uneven, because especially the swedish teams were sooo much better, even compared to the Finnish. Nowadays there's a lot more good teams from other countries, so CHL makes more sense to play now.
