I love that Corey forgot how dark both kids and family movies got in the 90's. These witches are killing kids and doing it gleefully. I'm like Corey did you forget that the Lion King used Macbeth as a working template for its script. But yes 90's kids and family movies and tv shows could be darker than a lot of cinema today

I like that they don't let Korey get away with nonsense sometimes. Korey: The cat could write a note. Martin: that's physically impossible, it has paws. Korey: He could kill something and write the note in blood. Martin/Chris: Yeah the people of Salem would love a note in blood. Korey: I don't even know why there is a crematorium in a school. Chris: It's a kiln.

I'm with Chris in that I thought this was a Disney Channel original movie because of how often that Channel played this every October along with Halloweentown. So you forget that this was theatrically released and has the dark edge that it has.

I watched this movie nearly EVERY Halloween. This, along with "Halloweentown". Sarah Jessica Parker was attractive in this, Betty Middler was charismatic, and YES...y.e.s. the voice of PEGGY HILL(Kathy Najimy) was in this movie!!!

At least regarding the sun at the end, it's not the sun that's going to hurt them. The spell ends at dawn, so the witches had a race against time. The sun rising meant their time was up to succeed at completing their spell to stay youthful.

I swear Korey's entire discussion on the Cat not learning to write his name and all was about 10 minutes long in the uncut podcast 🤣

I love how even Martin is defending this movie and all its antics. Goes to show how treasured this film is with all generations

This doesn't feel like a Disney movie. This feels more like a Warner Brothers movie.

In the screenplay, it’s established that only people that believe in the supernatural can hear Binx. In fact, Allison and Dani can hear the Binx talk in the witches house before Max can. He’s telling them to get out of there but Max doesn’t believe them.

Sarah Jessica Parker was bad asf in this with her hooters hanging out couldn’t pay attention to the rest of the movie 😂

It still makes no sense to me why they originally released this movie in July. They thought it was a failure until Halloween and now it's a Halloween classic.

I feel like this movie is so well loved because it has the right amount of spooky fun. It's not too scary but not too childish either. And I honestly wish more movies were like that.

I grew up on this because it would air on Disney Channel non-stop during October. It became a tradition in my family to watch it after we came back from trick or treating, last movie of the night 😊

The only dark part of the ending for me was killing off the most loveable villains since The Joker...I just saw it as Binx finally being freed of his curse and reunited with his sister while finding retribution by protecting Dani...Really as happy as you could get unless you're a fan of the sisters like me. lol

[Max embarrassed nearly spits out the cider he's drinking] Dani : Max likes your yabbos. In fact, he loves them! My cousins, my sister & I always laughed at the embarrassment on Max’s face from Dani’s very revealing & personal revelation of her brothers “interests” in the female anatomy. We also laughed & remarked on how if we ever did that to any of our older cousins/brothers we would barely have teeth at 30🤣 I had the biggest CRUSH on Sarah Jessica Parker growing up & watching this movie, I think I was 5 when I first saw this movie, & then it really sank in from the ages of 7 on up. Now as a 33yr old man, Husband of 14yrs(this coming Oct. 28) & also a Father of 3 (5, 10 & 14) rewatching Hocus Pocus with my wife & kids, to prepare for Hocus Pocus 2 was great enjoyment. Side Note: After seeing Hocus Pocus 2, I can honestly say that I DO NOT have a crush on Sarah Jessica Parker anymore(no disrespect to her) but I’ve definitely grown up a lot a lot since 1993(I was 4) & so has she(respectfully). Hocus Pocus is a 90’s kids Classic & a MUST watch for the Halloween Season. 23:11 the actor who plays human Thackery is the same guy who plays Agent McGee on NCIS. The voice actor who takes over the role for the rest of the movie is the same guy who plays teenage Max Goof in the two Goofy movies. Even when Thackery appears as a ghost in the end, for some reason it’s not the actor’s own voice, but rather the Max Goof guy still dubbing him. I also work at Disney World and when we have the Halloween celebration in Magic Kingdom, the Sanderson sisters take over the stage at Cinderella’s castle, the show is narrated by the Max Goof actor repiecing his role as Thackery over the sound system. Why the other actor did so little, I have no idea🤷🏻‍♀️

Rewatched this in prep for Hocus Pocus 2 and I had a great time. Still find myself smiling and laughing.

Sequel sucks except the one way or another song but it's not the same. Their characters are not as defined as the first one with lackluster story. This would be fine if it were 2003 but 30 years....it's like the coming to America sequel. Just why??

I hadn't seen this movie all the way through until just this year, but now that I have, I get why it's a cult classic. It's just plain fun! It captures the vibe of what you want Halloween to be when you're a kid - you go trick-or-treating all night, and then you go on some big exciting spooky adventure. And the Sanderson Sisters are great. They're like if the Three Stooges were witches 😆

I think a great theme would be real world witches who KNOW the magic to be immortal and get the things in life they want, but struggle with conscience not to use it. That would be cool. Kind of a Dexter-ish, Interview with the Vampire plot line... BTW, I always love seeing Chris. His Trump impression and commentary are non-pareil. I just saw this movie for the first time a few days ago, and I was surprised by what it did with the bully characters. You’d expect Max to rescue them from the witches because he’s the altruistic hero who wants to save the town, but not only does he leave those bullies in their cages, he makes a point to take back his shoes from them to rub it in that he’s not saving them. Ice cold, man.

My mom, little brother and I saw Hocus Pocus and Hocus Pocus 2 on Disney Plus this past weekend and we enjoyed watching them.

I believed the change the ending of this movie were that cat died. Because I think he was supposed to continue to live on in the cat body for eternity and watch over the book. But test audience and other said that would be to dark. So they changed it were he finally dies and be put to rest and be with his sister

This movie actually got beaten by Jurassic Park at the box office and the song Almost Unreal performed by Roxette was originally supposed to play the end credits but due to schedule conflicts it got switched to The Super Mario Brothers Movie Soundtrack. 😑

I always theorized that Thackery didn’t speak either because newly turned he didn’t know how meaning it may have taken him years to learn to talk with a cat’s vocal cords or as we don’t see him talk until after the witch’s are resurrected maybe his ability to speak is connected to that. His immortality is tied to them, ending only when the candle burned out, so maybe with them dead he couldn’t speak. He doesn’t appear until after they’ve dead so sadly perhaps he just arrived too late.

Eda and Lilith Clawthorne from The Owl House can stand up against The Sanderson Sisters. The Owl House is a fantasy adventure horror comedy series and it’s very heartwarming. It’s on Disney Channel and season 3 is only going to have three 45 or 55 minute special episodes. The first special episode premieres on October 15th and the next two special episodes will premiere in 2023. New York Comic Con will be showing a trailer or sneak peek of season 3 on Thursday around 3:00pm with the cast and crew of The Owl House.

Hocus pocus 2 was pretty good. I wouldn't be mad at anyone who we say why do a sequel but at the same time It was a good watch. Saw the plot coming but wasn't mad at it and it definitely has more money in it than the original. Overall a good streaming movie.
