I miss you so much, Charles. I'm honored to have called you my friend, and I never plan to forget the time you took to help ME, personally, on my journey to gardening and cooking. ♥️ January 18, 2022 "Mrs. OAG," you are in my thoughts and prayers tonight. You married a jewel and I'm sure he feels the exact same way. Until we all meet in Heaven...bye, bye.
I'm thankful to still have your sweet voice in these videos. God sure outdid Himself when He created you. ♥️ Holy Spirit, please give his family Your Comfort and Joy because he lived his life in service to others because of You. In Jesus's Name I pray. Amen
I love this channel, I homeschool my boys and this is what they will watch for a lesson this week! So simple yet so informative at the same time! THANK YOU so much
I Wish I'd found this channel earlier Everything is SO APPRECIATED !! I read in the comments that he has passed. Heartfelt Love & Appreciation for Him & all his information !!!❤️ BEST Regards to his Beautiful wife !! Hope we all meet someday Much Love ❤️
How absolutely wonderful!! This is the besssst channel!!! God bless you OAG family- richly and forever -for allowing us to continue to love and learn such wonderful ways….
OAG is like a family member who takes the time to explain things and to teach his viewers the old way of living, surviving, and growing a garden. Such wisdom, he had. Also, he was kind, patient, and an important resource for those who want to learn the simpler ways of living. OAG, we miss you and we love you very much.
LOVE IT! We need more channels like this on YT! Just good peoole sharing traditional and inspirational ideas! Lets bring back our cultures and traditions! THEY MATTER! ❤Thank you!❤
It's always a good day when I get a OAG notification! Mr. Charle's you have a beautiful life and wife. You are teaching generations about gardening, canning, cooking and how to live well. Thank you.
I most like the story from beginning! In Serbia, Montenegro and all Serbian countries we make similar (but simpler) cakes, and we call them "priganice" (from "prigati" means frying). Let God make good and peacefull living to you for long time!
I just did a Google search on what the difference was between hoe cakes n pancakes yesterday lol 😅 I live in Northern West Virginia and we never made them growing up. I didn't know it was a southern thing. Very interesting on the history of why they're called hoe cakes! Love learning something new everyday. Thank you for making this 🤗 I look forward to watching/ learning more from all your other videos! Especially gardening! 🌻💝👏
Another great recipe from OAG. Hellos Mrs. OAG. Stunningly beautiful young lady and still beautiful after all these years...Mr. and Mrs. OAG two beautiful people.
This is what I'm going to miss so much. I always wondered why they were called that &what they were! So sad you're gone Mr. O.A.G. but your memory and teachings will live on. So happy you decided to make this channel. Aww Mrs O.A.G.❤ so sorry for your family's loss.
Another Alabama native here. I’m thoroughly enjoying your channel, and I’ve cooked a-many-a hoe cakes. You may want to show these folks how to make white gravy from bacon or sausage drippings some day. That’s a dying art for sure. I thought I’d leave just note on your oil that 3 teaspoons is equal to 1 tablespoon. Blessings on you and your sweet woman.
Thank you. I have a gravy video on my list of things to do. Did you watch my biscuit video? Watch it at: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IWj8VfwwiqA.html OAG
My Granny made hoe cakes and would give us grandkids one to "tide y'all over till dinner". Thank you Mr. OAG for showing me how to make them. May God guide you on your journey and bless Mrs. OAG.
so sorry for your loss mrs. oag and family..he was indeed a special person❤ as we all learned from his videos..we will keep him forever in our hearts❤ until we see him again..Acts 24:15..praying for comfort and strength for the family🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏❤
Granny taught me this 60+ years ago. Ate mine with sorghum syrup usually for breakfast but occasionally with supper. Carried them to school in my pocket too!
Thanks ! Good stuff.! Beans and corn have complimentary amino acids and when combined, supply the building blocks for complete protein. Country wise ;-)
I could hear the crispy exterior of these cakes when you bite into it, so simple and sounds 🤤 delicious. Thank you for another recipe that proves that tasty doesn’t have to be complicated. Great recipe for beginners and all ages.
I think that is what makes these so good. I wanted to show cooking them to a golden brown and that is why they are crispy on the outside. Thank you for watching my videos.
Thank you for sharing that story. It may very well save many lives. Although I just discovered OAG recently and subscribed, I believe he will live on and his advice on so many subjects will save many more lives. Thank you for being supportive of his endeavors.
Mrs. OAG seems a bit skeptical about being in the video. Please thank her for sharing you with us. I truly enjoy watching everything you do. Thank you.
Yes, for sure I have been and am blessed to have my wife at my side for many years, we have been married for 57 years. Nothing special with the beans, just basic seasonings. Some ham in them would be good but I didn't have any.
My favorite part is when he does the taste test😊 I’m gonna miss this old fella☹️ he’ll be back in the resurrection very soon as Jesus promised at John 5:28,29, he’ll be doing his favorite things again, gardening and cooking.
I just made these and grounded my own Kamut wheat flour for them and they were delicious Mr. Charles I will miss you and your videos and to your family I am truly sorry for your loss.
That was fun! I haven't had hoe cakes in a long time.... Sometimes they were made rather plain and we would eat them like pancakes with molasses. I prefer the onion 😁 You're looking well...🤗 Thanks Charles 👍👍
Hello from TN! Good to see your face and the Mrs! What a beautiful woman you have! Then & now! The Hoe cakes are wonderful. Growing up in the backwoods of TN we called them Corn Fritters! We called them Hoe cakes too, but mostly corn Fritters. They are so good! You have to have the oil or they don't have that good "Crunchy" texture! I kept saying now all you need is some beans, and then out came a jar! Great video! Tell the Mrs it was so very good to see her! GOD bless you both!
This is such an awesome channel and very comforting to watch in such chaotic times in the world. Thank you for showing us wonderful and healthy ways to take care of ourselves and our loved ones.
Thank you for sharing all of the knowledge from life's experience that you have gained over the years! I am one who really appreciates and values learning new things of all kinds so keep it up you hear! Your wife is a beauty tell her we said HELLO! 🙏🙋
Wow, do those look delicious OAG, You have a beautiful wife and friend for life with her. My wife and I have been married 52 years. I was so happy to see you post a video, I haven't seen you for a while, praying nothing was wrong with you and yours, thank you for sharing your video's friend.
I love this channel as well and at about 10:00 I suddenly realized OAG is going to make me hungry when he does the close up of his first bite. I’m waiting for momma appearance then heading for kitchen
@@OldAlabamaGardener don’t be sorry I just love watching you cook good down home food. Thanks for the sneak peek of.Mrs. What a wonderful wife wonderful life.
I am hooked on this guy now ,, just discovered this channel and I'm binge-watching ,Its so sad to hear he had passed away! What a sweet and awsome man he was 😊
So you are an instructor of home economics, agriculture and health. What a treat for 'all' of us children to reap the benefits of much you have learned through life. Thanks for sharing another delicious recipe. I've never made these. And no wonder you married the Mrs. She is beautiful...then and now. And petite. You sound and look good, Charles. Jesus bless.
New subscriber here. Love you and your channel! Appalachian homesteader sent me over! I've adopted you. Your my pawpaw! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us!💚💙👍👍👍👍
Every time you cook something I instantly start starving to death. I made your tempura battered eggplant and it was delicious, I’ve always just battered them with cornmeal but the tempura batter is a thumbs up. Thanks for another great video and I’m praying for your brother!
Thank you for sharing I just made your recipe left out the onion this time around but looking forward to making them with the onions in it. Taking them to the nursing to my mother I hope she enjoys them. I sure did Many Blessings to you and family
We were raised on hoe cakes or cornbread patties and beans. Still cooking it to this day. When we had left overs my cousins and nephews would use toaster to crisp up with a bowl of beans. Too good! Thanks, I wonder how many knew how they came about the name.
@@GeorgeCampbell1964 I tried the recipe just now.. delicious. Will do again soon. Next time with corn and jalapenos and cornmeal. The canned pinto beans of OAG is worth trying too.
I absolutely love this channel!! Thank you so much OAG!! I appreciate your no nonsense approach. I'm a beginner and wish I had taken up gardening along time ago. Thanks to OAG, I finally feel like I am able to do these things myself, or at least try doing them. My garden is small and kind of a mess but I'm learning a lot and having a blast!! Thank you OAG!!
Good for you. The first thing is to start gardening. The second thing is to keep notes on what worked and what didn't. And I think the third thing is to not try to grow everything, find the ones you like and just grow them. For example:There are dozens of different kinds of beans, some are better than others, find the one you like and just concentrate on growing that one. The same with tomatoes, cucumbers and so forth. If you would like a list of my video with links to each video, put your E-mail address here, I will copy it and then remove it. Then I will send you a list of my videos.
So glad you are looking so much better! You had a lot of people praying over you🙏and you still do! I like the extra "juice" from pintos to dip my bread in. Yummy. Mom made the best hoecakes in the world, yes with diced onions, never had them sweet like others said. Bring back memories for sure. Looks like I need to make a batch myself sooner rather than later. I just use buttermilk since I like to drink it and that saves a step with the vinegar. You sure got a beauty with Mrs. OAG! She still looks beautiful today. Bless you!
Thank you, I had a close call on it being the end of my life. Yes, buttermilk is better, but I didn't have any, so I used the vinegar. Thank you for your prayers.
I just love all your videos! I'd watch them everyday if you posted them. Could you make one for making beets? I remember my grandpa always had homemade beets and they were so good! Thank you so much for creating such wonderful knowledgeable content!
This is a new spin on Hoe cakes for me. I've had them when I was younger and they were plain but I'm going to try these and fried foods are great for you when cooked in the right oils. Thanks for the recipe!
This reminds me of my mom’s potato cakes (the appearance) I wish I would have paid more attention when she made them because mine didn’t turn out right. These look really good. The family loves the burritos. Thanks for all the tips and recipes. Best to you and Mrs. OAG ❤️
Love the history! Love the recipe! Do you serve the beans on the side or as a topping? When I make chili, I mash some of the beans - they help thicken the soup. Thank you!
I usually get a bowl of beans (actually after I mash some it is almost a bean soup) and break the hoe cake up into the bean soup. It is one of my absolute favorite meals. Thanks for stopping by.
Hi Janice. Good to hear from you. I hope you are doing well and avoiding the virus. Mrs OAG doesn't know she is in my video, as, she doesn't want to be in my videos. I thought I would sneak her in this one as she did come through the doorway.
Mamma always used self rising flour and water. Fried them in a bit of butter. They were so good. I raised my children on them because we liked them. Mamma cooked them for us because we often didn't have anything else. She always had a way to make us feel we had plenty. Your version look delicious.
Nice to see you. I'm from Western Tennessee. My mom made these often and when to see had leftover biscuit dough, after she had rolled as many as possible, she called them hoecakes. God bless
It was good to see Mrs OAG then and now, wow Mr. OAG, you found a beauty. That was an interesting story about the cakes, ingenious of the workers I must say. I have never made them but they sure look good.
@@OldAlabamaGardener I am doing much better thank you. It is wonderful that you both grew together over the 57 years. Good to see you both smiling and laughing, here's to many more. C.
The cakes look delicious. I would definitely want one with Jalapeno. Love your channel. Thank you for posting this. Love the appearance by Mrs OAG! God Bless you both
You remind me so much cooking wise as my Moma!! She used to cook these and just called them fried cornbread and they were always so good !! I had forgotten about them till I saw you make them. Definitely going to make these !! So Glad to see you feeling better!! Love all your videos and can't wait for the next one!! Thanks for Sharing and God Bless You And Love From Alabama Also !! 👍👍👍💜💜💜🙏🙏🙏
