Shawn...this video changed my life. I typically average 240-250 carry with an inconsistent strike pattern all while trying to crush the ball. Went to the range today and made a few changes per your suggestions. It resulted with effortless consistent power adding 30+ yards on my carry. Can’t wait to shock my buddies this weekend. Thank you for all you do.

GOLD GOLD GOLD!! I change my stance to open and closed often for different shot pictures and to feel athletic in my swing. I didn't realise it was to keep my base underneath me but that makes complete sense. It's all about getting access to that target!!

Thanks Shawn. Went back to a closed stance for my driver (this week) and I am back to 250+ yard drives again. Makes golf more fun. I did a RU-vid search for "closed stance driver - long arms" since I have super long arms, and loved the videos of your daughter and her very long wing span. Made me feel comfortable, and reassures me that what I am doing is correct.

Shawn I have been following your videos for over a year. Your target and task oriented approach has helped me a great deal with all my clubs but the Driver is the one I have struggled with the most. I am a lefty. The old me would just aim my driver down the right side of the fairway and hope not to slice it too much or hook it or that I didn't aim too far right in case I hit it straight. On Sunday I did something I never did before. I had a forced carry. The only place I thought I could make the carry was the far left side of the fairway. I picked my target, intermediate point and set up for a slight fade and hit it my target almost on the bulls eye. I stayed with my target to the finish and did not default to the ball as I usually do. I have been playing that course about two or three times over the last four years and never made that carry before. Thanks.

This is an excellent video to confirm the essential element of the swing is 'staying focused on your target' even if you alter some variables such as stance. Without keeping that element in mind everything just goes haywire! Mu and Sav show how easy it is to get distracted or loose focus which results in poor quality shots. Another excellent video from the WIG team!!

Thank you Richard, yes indeed! Imagine, at this very moment, someone hit their “big miss” shot and immediately look for the technical issue to never do that again while all along, they never had a flight plan to the direction they WANTED the ball to go. CLARITY about WHAT you want to deliver in that specific direction is what we need, not the HOW to make sure! 😝

Another valuable lesson from this vid. I normally have a nice draw with my "natural" driver swing. But then people tell me my stance isn't right and I should align my stance to the target. Of course, then I end up losing the draw! For the longest time, I've used alignment rods to line up my feet when practicing and wonder why I lose the draw and my swing feels unnatural. Your explanation, aiming right of the intermediate point and aligning my feet that way makes total sense now. I think this is going to fix a big variability in my swing. Thanks again!

Well done!!

Here is the cool part of it: Because there are no restrictions with Mu’s technique; no nip and tucking, no placing, no being careful, he is developing to his full potential and in about 2 years, will be shooting solidly in the low 70’s and leaving a bushel load on the table with the potential to go very low. Hogan used an extremely weak left and right hand to help it fade, it was a soft 5 yard fade. Bobby locke was at a par 3 in Vermont with a reporter , he hit as usual a hook into the green as he ha an extremely closed stance with an inside takeaway and closed the face through the ball, he learned golf by reading a bobby jones book. He had a inside attack on the ball more so than jones. The hole was usually played with a fade as there were tall pines guarding the green. The reporter asked him if he could hit a fade, locke replied "let me show you how it's done ". He then stroked 3 immaculate fades from a 45 degree stance. Marvelous how the ball can be worked. Thank you for your great work shawn.
@ag358

I must say the stance hogan called for opened up for the shoter clubs. The feet for a wedge was open to open up the hips because the swing was much shorter so he surmised the hips needed a head start.

I read the 5 fundamentals at least a dozen times. I could rewrite the book from memory including pictures. Some say Moe carried the book around in his bag . If you compare Savys and Mu's address to your address do you feel they might be reaching out and standing to far from the ball. I'm probably wrong especially when you look at the swings of Bryson Dechambeau and Moe Norman. Yep second thoughts I'm definitely wrong. There is a very noticeable difference. It is very easy to default to the ball . I am certainly guilty of this at times. I picture a levitated soccer ball and the task is to bury the club head into it. Waste height and at my intermediate point "Mu". Excellent drives Savy very impressive. They have me quarantined for a week and it dumped snow on us. Guess I will work on my physical fitness and putting. As always great video. Thank yinz

One thing to ALWAYS take into account about the HOGAN swing is he designed it to work after the ACCIDENT(auto) for HIM. And it worked for him to his maximum. I have even heard and read, if you get to handle one of his Golf Museum Clubs with his grips on it OLD clubs, the people who have done so say it was like handling a piece of Rhubar, which is the bar put in concrete, real rough and scratchy but to HOGAN that was his THING. It is just worth considering that HOGAN did some things that maybe do not work for Healthy regular Players. That accident and comeback was one of the greatest in the History of Sports, he was never expected to ever Play especially to the professional level, after that accident. This comment is not meant as any criticism, but it is worth mentioning. Shawn is a GREAT teacher. I would like to know what kind of SCORES, Savannah is shooting these days??, It would be great to see her on the LPGA, esp. being a LEFTY.

Thank you for the great comment! Yes, and because he legs were battered, the average person, especially older than 65 years old, would benefit greatly from the extra range of motion generated from it. And Savy finished the season at a 1.8 index. 😀👍
@ksharpe10
@ksharpe10 3 года назад
@@golflessons How ironic I turn 66 on Monday. LOL. I had to look up the index handicap, when I did play we never used that, near as I can tell that means she scores 1.8 to 3.2 birdies per round, she usually plays in the 70's which is really SUPER, but is that Professional level yet? Me I used to usually shoot rounds no matter where I played more or less 78 to 82, so I used to tell people I was a 10 handicapper. I wonder how Savy, and Mo would do hitting my old driver, a late 80's, Hogan series 56 metal small head driver or better yet my old Persimmon driver, and give em the old no.1 ball in golf, the old black box gold letter-balatas. I have let younger players hit that driver at the range and they always say, wow you had to hit that one real precise to get a fairly straightish ball flight. Yup is usually my comment. I remember when callaway 1st came out with the Big Birtha driver. I use to love to push a persimmon beyond that back in the day, that was FUN. LOL.
