This show is hilarious! I’ve always loved it. Whoever was in charge of casting was a genius. Every character was played by the right actor and all of the regulars were so funny.

@@FrauWilhelmKlink It's funny to see the original version for the first time, all these english with german accent. In the german version Schultz has a bavarian accent and Klink speaks saxon. For many years it was a double feature TV show, first M.A.S.H. and than Hogans heroes. Good times but long ago.
Vietnam, Watergate, the Cold War, US political assassinations, race riots... Seems like you need to research this timeframe in a real world sense rather than drinking a favor or Kool Aid that never was. I do agree tha TV was "better" in many ways back then, and certainly more creative. But that's really a different topic.

Comments seem to almost always praise Shultz for his sense of humor and acting skills. I agree that he was amazing. However... Klink was also a comedic genius. He pulled off his role like no one else could. He was not as lovable, and picked on Shultz, and perhaps that is why he does not get the same praise as Shultz? But Klink was super talented --- perfect for the part.
Agreed... especially when you know the back story about the actor (Werner Klemperer) that played Klink. A very accomplished musician and concert Conductor, as opposed to Klink's God awful screeching violin playing, it takes talented musician to fake being that bad, that good.
@@3henry214 I like the episode where Klink plays his violin for the first time and the Heroes steal it. After they tell Schultz they gave it back, he says "What did you do that for? Now he's going to play it again." 😂🤣😂
Oh, a very talented man indeed. I saw him in the movie Operation Eichmann and he was scary. He nailed Adolf Eichmann to a T. I've also seen him in The Wicked Dreams Of Paula Schultz where he plays Klaus. The movie was made during the run of this show and had Werner Klemperer, John Banner, Leon Askin and Bob Crane in it. For this role, Werner upgraded to a full pair of glasses! 😂
My favorite part of this scene is when Schultz comes in and reports the prison riot on the east side has been ended. And Klink says "Shultz!! WHAT are you TAAAAALKING ABOUT!!!" Just the way he says it gives away his extreme tiredness of the odd things that make him look bad in front of superior officers all the time. Such a simple line. Delivery makes great actors.
Even after all these years from watching as a kid they are still the best shows ever! We used to watch as a family and didn't miss any of them, I truly miss those days!
Could be difficult for a Jewish person to smile while playing a Nazi. Just a guess. And in my opinion, the characters of Schultz and Klink were soldiers German Air Force and not Nazis. But both actors were also Jewish.
Hochstetter and Burkhalter elevated this show immensely, as well as Carter impersonating Hitler, with Klink and Schultz anchoring as the "bad guys" - with Get Smart and the Honeymooners my all-time favorite comedy.
This is my second favorite episode. My first favorite episode is when Hogan convinces the Commandant that Schultz can predict what city would get Bombed next. They get Schultz drunk & he be tomorrow Berlin flat as a pancake lol
Look at Hochstetter trying not to laugh. That must have been tough, John Banner was so funny as Schultz. Richard Dawson (Newkirk) never even tried to hide it, he'd always laugh.
I never used to notice the 'snow' lying around on the set while green leaves were on the trees and the sun was shining, Apparently the snow was painted on to ensure continuity but it was actually really warm for the cast dressed in winter clothing,
when I was very young I followed my brother everywhere he would always watch this show and I would watch it with him. its such a funny show even today. I miss you robbie😢
Two Shootez , Two Shotzz , Two Schlitzz yea don't mind if I do . Never Mind ..... I See NOthing , I See NOOOThing . I must've missed this episode when I was a kid . Back then No VCR's , No VHS's and No DVD's . Almost like on " Gilligan's Island " . Well at least we had indoor plumbing .
I had Green Acres on DVD and to come home smoke a bowl or two and watch Green Acres and Hogan's Hero I swear a gut Green Acres is so hilariously stupid between Lisa Douglas's funny Arnold Ziffle it was great stuff.
Always. I feel like Hochstetter was the most efficient part of the Third Reich on this show. The following quote from Scar in the Lion King sums it up perfectly: "I'm surrounded by idiots."
For a split second, you can see fake-Schultz's arm coming into the split shot just as real-Schultz approaches. For an era before vcr's and slow-mo replay at home, it works really well!
I was a teenager in the 60''s . I loved this show. I think the movie STALAG 17 was used as a basis for it . I could do a pretty good imitation of klink ' hoo-ghhhhhnnnnnnnnn!
I watched this show new, as a child. I had a crush on Bob Crane. The show was hilarious, even more so when Hogan had to advise the germans about matters.
This program was actually very controversial when it first came out. I can remember the fuss about what was erroneously called a “TV program about a concentration camp.”
Love the show one of the few shows from that time I really like bought the series on dvd. Wish tv could be this funny today , the woke mob would never allow it

I don't remember the title off hand. There is a character named Baumer who knows all of the financial secrets of Germany that they disguise as Shultz to sneak him out. I'll get back to you if it comes to me.
I wonder if the one who played the RAF guy had or even has? ever been to Britain in his life...the accent was something...but it was not British. (I'm an English teacher).
@@E3ECO Hochstetter's actor played two different characters in the show. One as a Wermacht artillery officer and the other as a Gestapo Colonel named Feldkamp. Colonel Feldkamp actually died in canon for Hogan's Heroes (in spite of it being episodic) and seeing as how the staff still wanted Howard Caine (the actor) to play as a Gestapo officer they made a new character for him named Major Hochstetter.
I love this show 😄 ❤ so much and I have every season! I watch this show every single night and favorite characters was Col.Hogan, Sgt Carter, Sgt Kintchloe! I do admit I like Klink cause he is so stupid, I do like Schultz cause he is friends with Hogan and his men, plus he hates the war! Klinks General is cool and Major Hoffshetter is a real winner especially with that loud mouth of his! 😆😄
@@binaway Yeah, they started wearing grey sometime in 1939/1940. Personally, I liked them better in black; it was far more intimidating, and the SS/Gestapo was all about intimidation, right?
