I dont know if my comment ever reaches you, but if it ever does and you can answer it would be great. I am in Europe and getting a Deka with plastic scales costs 215 usd. Which is not viable as you can imagine. A Benchmade 535 also goes around 230 usd. Those are knives i like but not really worth it in Europe. My question is - can you recomend something with their profile and properties on the european market which makes sense (value vs quality)?
M.C‼️‼️ You peaked my interest in the Ritter/Hogue. I checked on specs (for my taste) watched other reviews. Bought a mini RSK,, man I love it as a secondary carry. The Abel lock just gets the job done!! Made in 🇺🇸, GREAT value... Had some issues with Axis locks lately, spring broke, lock stick. Going to get a Deka after Christmas 💸💸💸 Stay safe stay sharp 👍🇺🇸👍🔪 THANKS for what ya do!!
I just got the RSK MK1-G2. An excellent knife that I’m super happy with. It will probably replace my Manix 2 Blurple in S110V as my favorite carry. The ABLE lock is easier to use than the rather stiff Ball Bearing lock (which I’m told will break in with time and use). But, kind of like I like my shoes to fit and be comfortable when they’re new, I like my knives to be very useable right out of the box,so in that regard, the MK1 beats the Manix 2 in my book. By the way the word is “piqued”.
Just got my magnacut deka MC and I love it! I even started liking the polymer scales as long as i tried not to think about them as plastic (or at least not the cheap shitty plastic we’re all familiar with) along with the associated stigma we all have with “cheap plastic” I like the Polymer scales way way more than the ones on the bugout. I liked the bugout when I got it, but once I got the titanium crossfade scales I loved it. But i think I already love the Deka Edit: just recently got my OG aluminium scales for the deka magnacut and the knife is now complete!! The polymer was nicer than the grivory on the bugout IMO but these aluminium scales just make the deka more perfect. The ABLE lock is so much smoother than the axis lock, better steel than the bugout (magnacut), no screw in the middle of the scale… I could go on… it’s just perfect
I own a Gen 2 Deka ... picked it up from SMKW for $106 I also own a G-10 20cv Bugout I picked up from BHQ for $148 .... both are great carry knives I like the Bugout a little more but value wise the Deka is much better!
This was the first knife that I bought (with these exact scales and blade shape)…I now have more than 40 knives and I still love my Deka 2 as much or better than many of them. Great for EDC.
Took me over 2 months to get a gen2. Got the blacked out wharncliffe, and I love it. Wish they put that little plate and screws where the empty clip mounting spot is.
I absolutely love my EDC first Gen wharncliffe Deka…. But Yeah, I don’t know why Hogue didn’t include the pocket clip filler plate on the 2nd Gen. It makes the knife kinda look unfinished compared to the first Gen. 🤷♂️
I agree…I found Hogue Deka Black screws on eBay for like $8 and bought them to fill in the two empty clip holes. It drive me nuts…now looks finished and is an amazing knife!
I bought this knife in blue and silver after watching....quickly became my favorite over my S90v bugout with carbon scales. It came extremely sharp, perfectly tensioned, makes a cool little "whis" noise when flicked opened. Super cool knife. It is a bit pokey, like sharp feeling on handle, but to me that's part of the feel and it's good. I am tempted to buy both blade shapes.....I won't....but I am tempted.
I love the improvements on the Gen 2. I am glad I got it at the Hogue website before the price went up significantly soon after. Today's price on their website for the black version is $194.95 while a Gen 1 is as low as $130 on Amazon. Currently I don't see Gen 2 on Amazon either. At any rate the action is a lot smoother on the Gen 2 I got in comparison with my older Deka and came sharper out of the box.
Just got the Mgnacut dlt exclusive, super excited for this, i didnt realize it was still fling off the shelves, sold out 5 mins later. I was just putzin around when I stumbled upon it
I wish they would have changed the thumb studs on the new model. On my old one, the cutouts on the studs catch on my pockets causing it to partially deploy before I get it completely out of the pocket. Maybe nobody else has this problem? I guess either way it'll give me an excuse to upgrade the studs.
Been very intrigued by Hogue lately. The K320 has my interest and in research I have gotten smitten by the Deka. Have been a hold out on the Bugout and now I have no interest. Definitely will be picking up a Deka g2 and a K320
I have the Gen 1 version with black wharnie and OD G-Mascus. Even with the poor clip, extra screws and bizarre use of the Ritter mini-RSK liners, it's one of my favorites. It looks like the Gen 2 version no longer has the filler piece for the opposite side like mine with the extra two screws. I like that detail on the Gen 1. But just like the Gen 2 in this review, the blade on the Gen 1 is identical and it is a true SCALPEL!
I just purchased a deka in magnacut and it seems very stiff. Definitely doesn’t fall shut like yours is.. I’ve taken it apart and cleaned/lubed it to put new scales on but that didn’t really help. I’m right on the edge of blade play with the pivot tightness. Will it break in?.. should I return it and try another one? First axis lock so I’m not sure what to expect
I have, and love, several members of the Bugout family. I’m definitely getting a Gen 2 Deka and I’m considering picking up a first generation one as well. As somebody that loves this particular lock mechanism, I’m curious to see what other companies do with it since Benchmade’s patent expired.
I've had two bugouts and two gen 1 dekas. Sliding the lockbar back felt easier and smoother on the Deka. I think you will like Hogues take on this lock style.
@@VMC_Boy I’ll know for sure soon enough. Ordered both last night. Figured I’d grab the versions that I wanted while they were in stock. Already have enough that I’m waiting on to be restocked.
I got this knife in the mail today. I was a little worried it was still the Gen 1 as SMKW still has generic pictures on their website. It was the Gen 2, which for the deep carry pocket clip is worth it. I own 2 bugouts and I absolutely love them. Is the Deka better? Idk... Time will tell..I know of most the knives I own..the bugouts gets a lot of pocket time. From blade shape to how light weight it is and deep pocket clip..I just enjoy carrying it. I think the Hogue might be better..G10 handles feel really great and it's only slightly heavier. Time will tell 😀 Great video
Great review sir! I have to say I have multiple gen 1’s and bugouts and I carry the Deka more😬.. I don’t mind the clip on the gen 1 and sometimes deep carry’s are a pain to get out of my work pants. I’ll still probably get one though haha
I really like the idea of more blade shapes and handle colors. A sheepsfoot and maybe a drop point would be nice. Also, a plain blue or red handle would probably show the milling pattern better like the black handles do. It's a nice pattern, and I think they could let it work as the main visual on the handles.
I picked up a blue g-mascus Deka (drop point) and I love that thing. My only issue is that I have deployed it several times just taking it out of my pocket. Great knife though and I like carrying it when I need to be more minimalist (standard carry is a Benchmade Freak and a Guardian Tactical 035). I really would like to get that new pocket clip, but probably going to stick to me current knife.
If anyone with slightly smaller hands has had a chance to handle the gen 2, how does the handle feel? I got turned off by the gen 1 cause the edges of the handle was so uncomfortable because there was no chamfering on the G10, felt like just a block of polymer attached to a blade.
I really don't understand the obsession with the screws on this knife. Yeah, it's got a few more than the bugout, you what it's also got? 20cv and G10 for the price of s30v and Griv-plastic. I get it's aesthetically not awesome, but guess what? I think the bench butterfly is ugly. I got a the V2 version and wish I had gotten the V1 as the additional screws make it seem more stable. It was the black clip point & black g10 version so I don't really care either way but honestly it's just screws that don't impact function and aren't even that noticable
Just got the same color combo in the mail yesterday... But its the old version wish I could have found the less screws version. Argh I didn't know there was an update!
Nice vid. I would like to buy this knife in cerakote with some original goat scales. Can anyone tell me how the cerakote blade holds up? If it scratches easy i will most likely go with the stonewash blade.
My centering is favoring clip side. This is the second one I've gotten with the same issue. It's the smkw rwb drop point. Is this normal? Can it be fixed
When i first purchased a knife that was over $100, it was a Benchmade. Only bc I didnt know what else to buy and they had the bugout at my local outdoor store. Didnt know FRN vs. G10 vs. micarta. It was a simple smaller knife that was light. Years later, I realized that all my benchmade factory edges were not symmetrical in angle. Nor did they remain centered well for even the length of 2 weeks of use. Even with a logical amount of loctite. I like my Benchmade's, dont get me wrong. They "work" for edc. But when you compare price tags, materials and tolerances....Hogue has taken Benchmade for a doggy walk. Yeah, their warranty program is excellent. But to all those who buy a new knife and dont feel like returning it within months of use hoping to just get a new, better version of what i bought....it doesnt make sense if you do your own cleaning, adjusting and sharpening.
Gosh that Bugout looks like it is gonna slide right out of the pocket MC have you ever lost any? My Presidio 2 loved to pop out of my pocket it stays in the wife's purse now. My Manix2 LW stays put. It even catches some twigs and leaves sometimes lol.
I'll add a review in hopes that someone at Hogue reads it. Rather unhappy with my gen 2 Deka. Blade came with a grind worse than I'd expect from a Chinese knife (11 and 14 degrees on the tip sides with 30 and 35 degrees on the belly). It took a long time on my KME to reprofile. If that weren't enough, I've sharpened it several times now to break it in (tempering can happen on the factory edge due to grinder heating), but it still holds a terrible edge compared to my other 20CV blades. Overall, I pre-ordered shortly after it was announced and was sorely disappointed with the QC.
@Josh ? I got mine through Knifecenter (as I said, I pre-ordered months ago -- this doesn't reflect on them as they just ship what they are sent). Given all the pipeline delays due to covid and other things, I don't know that I feel like being pushing all that through for a couple months.
I couldn't decide on the Deka or the K320, but I think I made up my mind now, the fact that the k320 doesn't have Hogues G-mascus g10 handles stopped me from choosing the K320, I hope they come out with in the future.
G10 is great, but the K320 grips are also pretty good. Same material as the Sig P320 grips (Hogue makes those too), they’re extremely durable and still feel premium when compared to other grip materials. A lot of people just can’t get over the fact it’s polymer, but neither could 1911 guys when the Glock came out.
@@chrisbaber8676 That was over a year ago lol Original Goat possibly didn't exist yet, if they did they definitely weren't making Deka scales yet, but I am aware of them. Good lookin out tho! Lol thank you, I appreciate that
@MC, yeah what you said! I have a side opening Hogue automatic that I like enough to buy another, but it's so tough that it'll outlast me! And, I've heard you and other reviewers say it, it came out of the box with a superior sharpness that's reason on it's own to buy one! String, boxes and tape have NO chance...
m390, 20cv, 204p are all tougher than s30v, how do you not know that!? And the way you state your false facts with such glibness is so dunning kruger. m390, 20cv, 204p are tougher, more stain resistant, and holds an edge longer than s30v - this is objective. and the harder you take 20cv and s30v in hrc the more the toughness diverges between the two, with 20cv coming out on top.
This knife has some of the worst scales that I've ever EVER handled , the lid on a jar of jiffy peanut butter in my closet has better Quality! ( true !!)
