Don't know if you knew this or not, but I never heard you mention it in the steel description part of the video, this is Cryo treated 154CM, and Hogue send the blades to a professional heat treating facility who specialize in heat treatment of steels. So it's probably the best level of 154CM you get get on any knife.
Loving the design, simple looking blade and yet provides a very interesting combination of pattern and lines to look at. I'd probably choose the automatic variant if I were to get one, but I would be no doubt happy with any of them.
I just found one of these in excellent condition for $75 shipped. I couldn't pass that up, so soon I'll be the proud owner of one of these! 😃 Man, Hogue makes some GREAT knives! 😃
You are so right about 154cm being the best user steel. I was sharpening my Hogue HK Exemplar in 154cm with a Work Sharp outdoor little hand sharpener. With just a few passes on the ceramic side & what a sharp knife I've made. I believe this is why you see a lot of military knives in 154cm because its so easy to sharpen in the field. Oh I am not good at sharpening either; I tried to put an edge back on an cpm s35vn knife with minimal results. Great show, glad to see a knife reviewer taking chances & introducing not so mainstream knives like Hogue.

I just Ordered the 4 Inch Hogue Ex-01 G-10 manual, I guess your opinion of that one would be the same as this one. Can't wait for it to arrive, got a feeling this is going to be my new favourite knife.
I recently purchased a Hogue automatic and I'm not happy at all. It barely opens. Especially on the second try, it actually opens less and less the more U try. I'm wondering if anyone else had any issues with there Hogue automatic. I really don't want to return this knife but I really don't have any other options. If anyone else had issues please let me know. Thank you very much.
Anyone know what the heck “Cryogenically heat treated” means? The Hogue website lists it as a treatment of the steel. Cryogenically is a word used in medicine to describe freezing of tissues. What the heck does it mean in reference to steel? Is it woo or some kind of sales BS?
@@metal_complex In my opinion, you are covering too many automatic knives lately. SD as well. Are they becoming more popular or are you just tired of reviewing D2 Civivis? Not that there's anything wrong with D2 Civivis...
@@richardg6109 eh... the vast majority of knives I review are not autos... and they're also not Civivis... at 5 knife reviews / week, I cover quite a few different styles / brands. I also review whatever I feel like reviewing. That's not going to change.

Of course I expect honest feedback. I get hundreds of comments every day lol. Did you not expect honest feedback from me as well? You can always tell me what you think. And then I'll tell you what I think. That's how it works bud. Sometimes I listen to what people say in the comments, and sometimes I don't. This is just one of those situations where no change or action is warranted. So thanks for the feedback, but I have absolutely no plans to switch up any of the current knives I've chosen for content.
