Put mine in a pan of boiled water for about 5 min. Then stretched with fingers as shown in video. Sprayed Windex on both. I didn't even need the plastic strips. Actually got in the way. OH what a huge difference this grip has made! Can't wait to go to my range. :) So far, totally worth it. Will make my dry fire practice even better. Stronger grip now.
My install was for a p365XL (not that it matters, maybe). I dropped the grip into boiling water for 5 mins, hosed down the grip and weapon with Windex and got it started but the Hogue was rolling up on the front side and i couldn't twist or muscle it on any further UNTIL i remembered someone in another comment here suggested using the handle of a teaspoon. It worked flawlessly and it inched it down front to back til in place. With the spoon method, it took maybe 2 mins tops. Brilliant hack and all the credit to the other guy!
Best advice. I kept a heating pad close by and used it both initially and repeatedly during the installation. Further, I, repeatedly squirted window cleaner between the rubber grip, and the grip itself. Used it liberally, and it slithered quite easily.
Honestly this went on my gun a lot easier than I expected, I didn't even boil / warm the grip or use any alcohol based lubrication. I just cut the back of the package wide enough to cover all of the back / front of the grip and a bit on both sides, got it started, then put my fingers in the grip toward the mag well and just stretched the grips rubber and it slid right up by itself. Now I DO wish I used some sort of lubricant because getting those plastic pieces out on a dry surface was hard as hell. I Haven't shot with the grip yet, however just holding it with magazines in feels AMAZING.
I tried this before reading any of the comments (which I should have done). But despite some really good tips in the comments, this technique worked well for me on both my S&W Bodyguard 380 and my S&W .45 Shield. One thing I did to get a better grip on the lubed up grip sleeve is to use a paper towel in my hand to give me some friction as I pushed it on and then twisted it a bit into position. Overall, worked great. No issues. Thanks!
Follow-up, I followed these directions to the letter, soaking the grip in boiling water for 90 sec. Mine is a full size grip on service size weapon. Took all of 3 minutes to be back in the holster. Very Happy with new feel. Thank you Hogue
Worked like a charm on my M&P9 Shield. Not including prep time, 4 minutes of patient effort. Now my Shield feels like my H&k Vp9 in the hand. Thanks Hogue 👍
Saw this video too late! Spent almost an hour putting one on my S&W M&P 45 yesterday! lol Need to take it to the range now. Feels good in the hand already. Standard grip was ever so slightly small.
Guys, I put one on my bodyguard in 3 minutes. Heated up the sleeve with a hair blower for a minute or so, stretched it all around. Put hand sanitizer on the gun's grip and inside the sleeve. Slid on the back then stretched the front and got it on. Using a microfiber cloth, I worked it on all the way. No need for shims. The hand sanitizer is much slicker than Windex and evaporates quickly. Going to get one for my shield. Big improvement on my grip. No need to struggle if you do it my way. Good luck!😮😮
Just installed the hogue grip on my glock 19 Gen 4. I microwave a coffee cup of water for 4mins then put grip in it for about 3mins took grip out wiped off water and sprayed gun handle with windex and put grip on with beaver tail on 1st so you can hang on to it while slipping the other end over the front part of mag well. Spray more windex as needed. Didn't have to use pieces of plastic which can be sharp and cut rubber grip. Use a dry towel to grip the grip better to maneuver around. Took under 10mins to get installed. I'm very happy with how it feels and looks!
Don't feel bad. It just took me 2 hours to install a Houge Mono-grip on my single six Ruger. I ended up using 2 business cards, a paper clip and had to hold the gun above my head! They were a bear! I'll never install them on another single action again!
I just installed a HandALL to my Hellcat Pro. The installation was a pain, but not nearly as bad as I worried it would be. I soaked it for 2 minutes 15 seconds in boiling water. Carefully stretched it some by hand, avoiding the edges to prevent tearing. I did not use Windex or anything else for lubrication. The “shoe horns” kept falling off, so I out them aside. I was able to get the grip about a third of the way installed just by shimmying it up little by little, then I carefully inserted one of the shoe horns on the beaver tail side of the grip and it made the rest of the installation a breeze. Try it this way if you are having difficulty.
Was worried about installing due to a lack of grip strength caused by a previous hand injury. 40 seconds in boiling water, windex and three minutes later it was on. Buy one.
The install instructions are great but watch the magazine release as the grip is nearing proper placement. So wrapped up in getting it on straight I over shot the mark and ripped the top of the grip on the magazing release. Even with that the grip feels terrific. I'm going in for another but plan to use a lighter touch .
No heat, no boiling water, just a little bit of hand sanitizer after stretching it out a little bit with my fingers and it went right on my Shield Plus. Took about 30 seconds.
I just installed mine on a G17.4 with a large backstrap on it. There were times I honestly didn't think I was going to be able to complete the install. It is TIGHT! Warming it up in boiling hot water is a must IMHO. The plastic strips cut from the package didn't work out for me. The Windex treatment did help but it also can make your fingers slippery as well. Just small spritzes at times seemed to help. The grip is larger now, which I like. I believe it will give me a better, not quite as slippery, grip on the Glock. We'll see.
This install was so irritating on a ruger security 9. I wanted to shoot the damn grip for not cooperating haha. Looks and feels great once you work it out. I ended up putting the grip in boiling water and avoiding the plastic pieces entirely.
I actually cut off my beaver tail part for my p365xl. Feels a lot better for me. But I’m just saying for me, I can see how some would like it. Love the grip and would recommend it to anyone. Makes the p365 series feel proper in my hands. Ran one of these on a regular 10 round version, and now the 12 round (xl) version. ❤
Did everything as instructed, and after stretching grip onto the weapon the rubber split at the bottom front center, right along the seam line. Disappointed. UPDATE* I have received a replacement after contacting customer service. I just put in on my weapon with no issues. Thank you for the fast response and fast replacement. I used the handle of a small teaspoon slipped down the back as guide. No sharp edges; took 3 minutes. Good product. Soooo much kvetchalations over putting on socks.
I put mine on the dash of my black interior car and left it for a few hours. Seeing as everytime I get in I see the devil himself I knew it would get hot enough for the grip. No windex was needed I clamped the gun in the old vise and used a flathead screwdriver to shimmy it. It went right on
i bought both the grip and a Crimsom Trace laser and discovered the grip was pushing to laser too far forward, interfering with the laser's installation. Looks like I've got to cut off a portion of the grip right below the trigger guard so that the laser will fit against the frame..
Piece of cake Boiled water , let it set 5 min. Sprayed the grip and the rubber with windex . Slid on with very little struggling . Wrapped in a towel for final grip adjustment. Viola. The grip on my cz p 10c sucked was way too aggressive. This is perfect for sure

Tied loop paracord thru front of hogue grip and one cord thru back of grip. Pull from bottom of cord and inch the grip up. Use windex or alcohol sanitizer for lubrication. Done! ;)

What else can I use besides Windex? I dont have any and its a 30min drive into town. Update: I soaked the grip in boiling water for 2min then did the finger stretching as shown in the video. I used 70% Isopropyl alcohol instead of windex and it worked just like in the video. I got it slipped onto my Glock 19 first try! So I guess rubbing alcohol also works?
Hello, alcohol or anything that evaporates quickly is your best bet. Just make sure there is no moisturizing additives if you use something like hand sanitizer. Alcohol is a great option!
If you have good grip strength, you won't need any aids like windex lubricants or plastic bits. I broke both forearms and the quack doctor removed a good amount of muscle to attach metal rods for the radius and ulna of forearm. I do grips exercises to compensate for loss of muscle. I'm 65 and with these injuries, can get the grips on without anything but muscle and brains. Brains are important; just put the heel on just a little bit, then switch focus to the front. Keep the heel in place and force that front into position. Keeping the grip positioned parallel with old grip, move each bit of new grip up the old grip till the pistol pokes out the bottom.
Boiling the grip first really helps to make the rubber stretch and slide on fairly easy - I used a dish towel to clean off all the water before installing. Start installing as soon as possible while the grip is still warm. I did not use the plastic strips and only sprayed the handle lightly with rubbing alcohol and did not spray the rubber grip. Be sure to alternate between pushing/pulling the back of the grip and then the front of the grip.
You really don't need to go to this extreme. If you've ever put rubber grips on a bike handle, you know the trick: soapy water. The soap consistency should be filmy and slick. I was able to slip my Hogue grip on tonight within seconds. The soapy film will eventually dry out esp if left out in a warm room or in the sun.
u don't need all of this lol.. i installed it in 5 minutes on my shield plus with a flat head screw driver .. the beaver end in first, the screw driver pulls the other end in, pull the screw driver out and use ur fingers to pull little by little. done.
Definitely try to jam that mutherfucker up the by sheer man force before spraying windex on your gun. I didn't warm the handle. Didn't use the packaging for leverage and certainly didn't spray windex on my gun. Honestly i feel like a tough guy now 😂. Thanks hogue
All you have to do is heat some water in the microwave for bout 2 mins then put the grip in the water for bout 2mins max and put the beaver tail part on first and work it till you can put the other side on and keep pushing
Ha, I admittedly use spit for a lot of things. Nothing anyone else would handle but me of course, but i've done anything from removing bugs from windshields to polishing a headlight.
Lol. Reading so many comments of guys struggling really pains me. But I had read someone who recommended it. I still was expecting a battle getting it on but the whole process, from heating the sleeve up with a hair blower to getting the sleeve on was literally maybe 3 minutes. I pocket carry a bodyguard but I think I'm going to get another sleeve for my shield. Great product!
100% Boil the grip for five minutes and every minute take the grip out of the water and stretch it out carefully. Lots of “windex” ammonia based glass cleaner and install is a breeze!
These are nothing compared to putting a Houge Mono-grip on a Ruger single six. I had to use 2 business cards and a paper clip. And- hold the gun above my head ! Just ridiculous! They look and feel great. But it took 2 hours to get the screw to tighten up. Never again!
Physically inspected a 1911 chamber once n accidentally tripped the slide release internally, left me a bloody injured mess. I healed, and i hated that liama imitation 1911 anyway, so i sold it for next to nothing.
3 hours later if trying to install this and im throwing it in the trash. Nothing works and my hands are fucked. Garbage product, just get grip that applies with a heat gun and call it a day.
After attempting to place this grip on my M&P SHIELD 9 mm for 2 1/2 hrs one day and 1 1/2 hr the next, I discovered another, if not, better way to put on the HOGUE BEAVERTAIL GRIP. 1) Use a method to WARM the grip i.e. in boiling water for a few minutes. 2) when out of the water, stretch out all sides. 3) Put some PETROLEUM JELLY on both the handle's outside and inside of the grip. 4) MOST IMPORTANT: turn the grip around so that the BEAVERTAIL portion is facing the front of handle. 5) place the front of grip on the back of handle 1st, then slide on the BEAVERTAIL PORTION OF GRIP ONTO THE FRONT of handle. 6) push the grip up handle to top, then turn grip around until BEAVERTAIL portion is correctly on back. Align the grip. DONE!!!
Petroleum Jelly? Seriously? You want to leave a layer of grease in between your firearm and your grip? No thank you. I want to know my grip will stay in place as a shoot. Ever wonder why your tire shop does not use it? How about battery terminals? Why not grease those up too?
KY jelly is not a great material to have between there. Helps things move. In this case, you don’t want the Hogue grip to move on the firearm. Possible safety/marksmanship issue.
