The reason we LOVE this community is all the varying opinions! Yes we are often more critical of shows than most partially because we work in television and we see things differently - and partially because that’s just who we are! Understand that we value ALL opinions and love discussing them with you guys! We understand if our style isn’t your cup of tea- there are MANY other amazing reactors with different formats and ways of thinking. But we value each of you and love hearing your thoughts whether they are like ours or totally opposite, that’s what makes this fun!

I really liked this episode. I was just wondering...do you think all four of you would have had the same reaction if you'd watched the episode alone rather than together? It was just interesting to me that all four of you had a luke warm reaction. I wonder if you influence each other or it's just that you all happen to have similar approaches to watching TV shows - probable some of both, I guess. I know sometimes my own opinions about an episode can be influenced when I watch how others react.

This is probably one of my favorite episodes of the series that didn’t have twists, visual spectacles or bomb drops. I felt the same way as Tyrion with everyone sitting around the fire... coming to the realization that this is it. This thing that’s been a part of our lives for so long is about to change drastically and will not only never be the same but end soon. I think it's funny that one of the main facets of Arya's character from day one is that people only see her as a little girl and we the audience are sitting at home going "you don't even know how much she's grown, she's a badass!" Until she does something sexual and owns it and suddenly we're all her big brother "no...I don't wanna see you like this, little sis!"

The guys left the wall after the dead, going to the same direction, but didn't find/see anyone, which includes a flying giant dragon, even though they arrived Just hours earlier? I don't know guys, I think having a final moments episode like this is important. Many of these characters are probably going to die. This is needed, for the audience, but especially for the characters themselves. There's this foreboding sense of dread and there's something beautiful about humanity facing possible extinction but still trying to be with one another and keeping that humanity and togetherness going as long as possible. Not every episode needs to be jam packed with action, and yes some of the writing was clunky but that's been the case since they ran out of material to adapt, for the most part the writing was alright.

To each their own, but i think the criticisms for this episode were really weird. The writing and pacing felt like old game of thrones (Out of all the GOT writers Bryan Cogman probably knows the source material the best and cares about it the most). Characters behaved like themselves, scenes were allowed to breathe, some follow up questions were finally allowed to be asked. It's the culmination of all these different character's journeys. The final time they will be together. Battles are cool and you are going to get the longest battle in cinema history next episode. However, big set pieces and battles aren't really what game of thrones has ever been about. When the show didn't have the budget in the earlier seasons it would just yada yada through those battles just like GRRM does. The heart of the show has always been the characters, their conversations and interactions. Some of the best scenes in the show are Jaime and Brienne in the bathtub, Tyrion's trial, Arya/Tywin, Varys and Littlefinger just talking.

Yeah I agree 100%. Really odd. Brilliant episode imo. Or at least vintage GOT with a bit of twist. I'm really critical and OCD and pick things out that most don't even notice. Except the dumb shit, which is just not picking. Big difference. But point is, idk how anyone could think this was bad. Especially you guys. I expected you to love it. Idk what working in TV has to do with anything. No offense. I mean it was done absolutely perfectly. Especially considering the length of the episode. Probably the best pre battle build up I've ever seen. By far. Without this episode, the next one would feel hollow. They tottaly redeames themselves. I could see episode one. I mean that was Meh. But this, I do not get any hate. And GOT has never been about battle scenes. I agree. It's the writing and interactions. I absolutely loved this episode.

@@ianwestc @Katharina Mackenzie Jakobsen I think it really depends on how you watch the show and your expectations. When the scene started and Tormund walked through that door I already knew the scene was gonna either be hilarious or awkward as hell. I watched it alone and it was extremely difficult for me to get through the scene even tho I felt it was for comedic intent since Tormund likes Brienne and he's probably heard that Jaime has been spending time around Brienne and that she defended him etc so he basically told one of his many tall tales to one up Jaime in Brienne's eyes. Honestly, normally I fully agree with you guys but I think we and the show needed these first two "nothing" episodes. If this episode had jumped straight in with the action, I guarantee you there'd be even more complaints about *not* seeing various reunions, interactions and just generally getting time to get used to the fact that we're not going to be seeing anything new from these characters a month from now. I'm betting that either next week or by episode 4, the majority of these guys will be dead and a lot of them have been around since season 2 at least, so this is sort of like the last proper chance we have to say goodbye. Also, these conversations make sense from a character standpoint; how often, even in real life, can you choose exactly how you spend your final hours and with whom? As far as any of the characters know, they're all on what's effectively a suicide mission - sure, they'll fight for as long as they can but I bet each of them would be certain they weren't going to make it through. Of course they're going to want to take some time for themselves and get drunk and talk with their friends and relatives.

This was a fantastic episode to finish the arcs of some characters and to reflect on everything that they have been through. Without this episode next weeks would mean far less and be less rewarding/heartbreaking. Also the criticism about Varys not being in scenes or having lines, what exactly was he going to do? Potentially one of my favourite episodes in all of Game of Thrones. The final build to the Battle of Winterfell is incredible, and I'm not someone that needs constant hack & slash action to find enjoyment in a scene. Why would you want parts of the battle to be crammed into an episode when you can have one 82-minute long experience that deals with everything? There were a lot of things that needed to be tied up and paid off in the first two episodes, and there are still more plotlines to explore. I do like that you weren't as quick to character-assassinate Daenerys as I've seen a lot of people be though, over her scenes with Sansa & Jon. There's so much going on with her at the moment. I think that more and more she's realising that she's essentially a foreigner in Westeros, and maybe her expectations of everyone following her rule without question aren't fair. It frustrates her, because that isn't what she was led to believe would happen, and it isn't going according to her plan. She sees it even when people like Theon that have sworn allegiance to her show more loyalty and emotion to someone like Sansa. She's also learning, I think, that perhaps you can show immense warmth to your subjects and allies, and not simply act like a distant ice queen. She's allowed the Iron Islands to retain their own rule, and now realises she may have to offer the same to the North. At some point, her dream of ruling Seven Kingdoms becomes smaller, and smaller, and she may have to reevaluate everything she knows. Was it ever even her dream, or was it Viserys' that she simply adopted? She says it's all she's ever wanted, but I think we know that's not true, because before his death she never even expected to play a role as leader.

I COMPLETELY agree! I haven't seen Anyone talk about this yet, but imo during that scene Sansa gave off such a BIG vibe of that she was...............not P.laying Dany necessarily, but that she was using all the lessons that she's learned from Cersei and Lady Olenna and LF, and she reading Dany and was sussing her out trying to find out what her real motivation was and all. Like, did it not seem to anyone else that it was a little out of character for Sansa to have seemingly gotten so comfortable with Dany in the beginning of that convo, and how she made Dany feel at ease, and that smile she gave Dany (that Dany then returned) didn't feel Fake, but that she was just trying to manipulate Dany to get Dany more comfortable and to make Dany think that Sansa had come around to her. And It Worked. She brought up the whole "men manipulate women" thing and Dany told her it was the opposite. And What Did She Learn?? That Dany thinks that the Great War, the war against the WW, the war against the dead, is JON'S war. Not Our war, not humanity's war, but Jon's war. So she came to support Jon in "his war," so that he and the North will help her get the throne. And then Sansa asks her what's next and Dany as usual went right for the "I get my throne" bit........Ok.................yeah................but what Else. Like, Dany doesn't even think of anything other than just getting the throne, it seems like she hasn't even thought of what happens Afterwards. And her reaction to when Sansa was aking about the North and all and Dany's reaction was VERY telling, and the reaction Sansa gave was too. She had known all along what she was doing that Entire conversation. Sorry it took me a novel to write that, I just found that conversation FASCINATING and it seems like no one else noticed (or at least mentioned) that Sansa was being SO smart and calculating and stuff in that scene =D

A quick and not so gentle reminder of how much we love the characters that are still alive and how far they have come and how much they have gained or lost. The next episode and possibly episode 5 will be the two episodes where they pick away slowly at these characters, abruptly ending their stories. I saw numerous people complaining about the big battle not happening yet and I have to confess that I do not understand this way of thinking at all. What makes batlles/action scenes impactful is that you are emotionally invested, otherwise it is just visual noise. Plus what makes this show great is the inter-personal drama, not the action or the special effects and the first 2 episodes of this final season are full of those. I am glad we are spending more time with all the characters before the battle of Winterfell, as many of them will probably die and I am in no hurry to lose them.

This was one of the best episodes. So deep into ASOIAF lore. Jenny's song is propably the best thing that happen in this episode because it gives clue how this will go. Jon and Dany will give up the throne like Duncan Targaryen had done for Jenny. There was a reason why in s7 Cersei talked about 1000 years dynasty and in this season Dany said that they both her and Jon could live near a Waterfalls for a 1000 years and nobody would found them. They will have to make a choice and seeing in books what these characters truly wants I will say they will choose family over crown. For GRRM Targaryen is favourite family. Come on guys! there was a lot in the episode! Throughout we can see how Dany is losing power: in the Jaime "trial" thing, in the Theon comeback scene he makes it clear he came back to fight for Winterfell not for her, even Greyworm and Misandei are planning to leave her... A lot of nuances were in the back of the scenes: Arya not being vulnerable with Gendry just shows that she is past it... our girl is in soldier mode and not even sex can take her out of it. The amount of scenes with Jamie are foreshadowing that we will lose him. He had to have a farewell scene with Tyrion. So I bet a lot of these scenes would proof valuable as we move on.

I enjoyed this episode very much and it was totally needed to say a proper goodbye to the many characters that are going to die. I didn't felt spoon-fed at all, there are so many subtle implications in every scene you can easily miss them the first time. One example: the Theon / Sansa moment was very emotional, of course, but you need to pay attention to Daenerys in the background. She's shocked and surprised because: first, she sees a vulnerable and emotional Sansa hugging someone (so she's not just a cold hearted bitch) and second, people are coming to fight and die for Sansa because they CARE for her, not because she's threatening them with "bend the knee or die". If you want loyalty, EARN it. Daenerys is totally missing the point, she wants people to follow her just because she has claim to the Iron Throne, while people is ready to die for Sansa because she's a leader. Another one: Sansa changes his mind about Jaime not just because Brienne vouches for him. She "clicks" when she hears Jaime lost his hand defending Brienne of being raped. People seems to forget how brutal was her time with Ramsay. Anyway, other shows have like 2 o 3 main characters and some recurring characters. This show has like 25 characters, each one with a different story and arc, it's very difficult to give them the screen time they deserve. Varys is also just in the background, but if you give any character his "moment" the episode will be 2 hours of people talking.

Dany has never gotten that affection like the Starks get. Theon almost forgetting to bow it seems to Dany; but he swears to Sansa and Winterfell. Theon's come home. Jorah, Tyrion, Missandei and Grayworm be close for Dany , but it not be a familial one . Dany's look at Sansa agreeing with Brienne, Sansa trust Brienne; Dany doesn't trust Tyrion. Sansa and Dany soooo close; Sansa asked a relevant question, what about the north, our people, heritage, customs self rule etc. Dany's action was to pull her hand, a look, she still won't give up her claim; even with facts staring her in the face, friend or foe, they respect the Starks, they came to the north's aid. Danny's like WTF.

I really enjoyed the episode. I would have been disappointed if we immediately jumped to the battle without some of these interactions and wrap-ups (Jorah and Lyanna, Sansa and Theon, Arya and Clegane etc.). The only complaint I have with these first two episodes is that Daenerys had no reaction whatsoever to the fact that Viserion was resurrected from the Night King, despite the fact that he was one of her children and knowing that now she will have to face him on the battlefield (she went on a dragon date with Jon instead, like nothing happened). I have the feeling that from now on events will pick up speed, so much that we won't have time to process them.

This is our goodbye to many of our favorite characters. I don't see Ed, Tormund, Grey Worm, Theon, Gendry, Lady Mormont, Podrick and Brienne coming out of this alive. They all got set up with goodbye scenes that remind us why we love them. Some of them will become wights. It's going to be brutal. Wouldn't be surprised to see Jamie gone too, or one of the other main characters. GOT setting us up for heartbreak next week. Will be more epic than the Red Wedding.

Few episodes towards the end of the show, and we still don't know how Bran's powers actually work - so Far, they were used just to show us Jon's identity, and to quote lines from some characters to themselves. Just really, really hoping they use what they showed us in "The Door" for something. Otherwise, It will just be so awful! Also, what do we know about the Night King motivation? We're all entitled to our opinions, but looking at your reactions I get the feeling that the only problem is that you went into it with the wrong mindset (expecting more action perhaps?). Hopefully you'll rewatch some day and realize that it is one of the best non-action episodes in the series. There's a ton of amazing interactions which is what made GoT great in the first place. Alternatively I'm afraid you'll have to accept being in the minority on this one :p P.S. The Tormund story is great (and canon). Part of what makes it great is that it's so absurd that we(and the characters) dont quite know whether to take it literal or if it's a weird wildling joke.

Varys is problematic. His skill set should have made him the advisor who brought Dany the news about Euron's trip to Essos, the hiring of the Golden Company, the absence of the Lannister banners on the Kingsroad, Yara's escape...none of which was done covertly enough that a few well-placed "little birds" couldn't have uncovered it. I can see how it all came to gift Jaime's arrival with disappointment and disgust, but was the trade-off really worth it? On the other hand, I disagree hugely on the nothing-new criticism of this episode. Bran *finally* explaining why the Night King is after him, and the motive behind this war...all new. And welcome to me, abbreviated though it was.

Wow -- I think I enjoyed this episode a LOT more than you guys did. I mean, I get it. Your critiques here are WELL founded. But...I dunno. I enjoyed spending a little "down time" with these characters. As one of the Blind Wave guys aptly commented, quoting 'The Return Of The King,' this episode was like the "deep breath before the plunge." And I agree with that take. It was also, well, pretty damn funny, and this was obviously very much intentional, as shit is about to get hella serious in Episode 3. So, enjoy these characters now, because by the end of Episode 3, we're gonna have less of them. I predict that we'll lose at LEAST one "biggie" in the next episode. Also, keep the faith regarding Tyrion's lost conversation with Bran. My take there? Bran informed Tyrion about the secret escape routes in the Winterfell Crypt (only the family would have known about these), and Tyrion will use that information to save lives in the next episode. And so, here we are. The Great War is now upon us. FOR THE THRONE!

The way I look at it, the first two episodes were necessary, because for many characters, they had to complete their story arc before their death in battle. When predicting deaths for Episode Three, I simply look at who still has plot armor and who doesn't. Dany & Jon will both survive the Battle of Winterfell, because they have a very big unresolved issue. Ser Brienne of Tarth will most likely die, with her story at a perfect ending. Not only did she become a Knight of The Seven Kingdoms on her last night on Earth, she spent her last evening with two men fighting for her affection.

The point of the Jorah-Lyanna Mormont scene was reconciliation. He freely acknowledges that she is the rightful heir to Bear Island, and she recognizes that he has redeemed himself. They haven't exactly become family again, but the path is there. None of you commented on Podrick's "outing". Now we know what he did for those girls that made them let him keep the money. He treated them like real women, like love interests, like he truly cared about them. He sang to them.

I was disappointed really with Brian who criticised the whole thing heavily even though he was the one who said he missed the intimate moments of early seasons such as when Robb fell in love with Talisa! Well I would prefer to chrish the look on Davos' face when he sees a little girl who reminds him of princess Shireen than to see a rushed season with only CGI and direwolves and dragons. That's why I didn't like the seventh season that much because so many developements were felt rushed and difficult to believe.

Everyone always complains if it is too rushed, so I think that is why the 1st and 2nd episodes couldn't have been one episode. I mean that would have meant Tormund and Beric got to The Last Hearth, met Ed, then travelled to Winterfell and told them the night King was coming in one episode. I always value all your opinions because you are all very clever people. You don't have to like an episode if you didn't feel how you wanted it to. I really enjoyed it but that is probably because I love the character interactions more than I like the big battles. It is a shame that they have no use for Varys now. But you guys didn't like hearing Greyworm and Missandei talk just for the sake of giving them a moment before presumably killing one or both of them next week. I think it would have felt the same with Varys, not that I think he will die next week but that if he had nothing important to say it would have a waste to have him say something for the sake of giving that character a line. I very much think that showing Ghost in the background of that scene was like giving him a line to remind the audience he exists before they kill him next week. I know we will lose a lot of characters there is also the possibility of some characters coming back as wights so that might have also been why this episode focused so much on showing the characters having human moments. Sorry to go on and on, but I do love discussing this show!!! Also I got teary so many times too Hogwarts!! Much love, can't wait for next week's reaction. If it is going to be a super long episode with a lot of deaths maybe a 2 part reaction could be an option?

These are honestly the kind of episodes I prefer. Characters interacting, being allowed to breathe, not being exploited just for the sake of table setting or forcing the plot in a certain direction, like with last season. That's the heart of the show for me. The big battles and spectacles are nice, but they don't compare to the sort of intimate, contemplative moments we got in this episode and in the earlier seasons. I think it just feels like treading water to most people because we're focusing on only one location, one storyline, as opposed to several disparate ones in which a lot might be happening in one place and not a lot in another.

At first I felt the same coming in to episode 2 that I wanted several things to ‘happen’ but slowly realized that I actually enjoyed it and this type of time with our characters with actual meaningful reactions that don’t seem forced. I can say maybe the cuts were a little weird. Appreciate Papa Brian giving his props to Emilia I agree! Writing wasn’t a problem for me personally. And action isn’t to me what the show is about so its not like I’m craving deaths. But it seems to me that you guys suggest other moments that could’ve happened but if they had happened you might’ve still said you’re being ‘spoonfed’ or things are ‘dragging’. An earlier comment mentioned group settings and how they influence. I watched this alone and loved it. My friends watching together also felt like it was a waste and just wanted the battle. Maybe that is a factor. I say rewatch it alone sometime during the week and maybe you guys opinions will change.
