I have one and when it works, it works wonderfully! About 1x a week (I use it for 2-8 hours 5 days a week) the mics just won't connect no matter what - then, for no discernable reason - it connects 🤣🤨🙃 trying to troubleshoot that
Wow, the sound is good and at £109 in the UK the price seems amazing. Especially considering the Rode set up is £370 for the same. I'm sure the Rode may be better quality sound but what I heard on the video was very good also and the noise cancelation was excellent.
Hey there, first of all thank you for the amazing content. I (like the other friend in the comments) got the iSteady M6 gimbal based on your reviews and I'm VERY happy that I did. the microphone sounds extremely good (specially considering the price point) and the fact that it's been designed for smart phones and it fits on a gimbal makes it a wonderful option for people who are in the market for sth like this. Keep up the fantastic work! looking forward to learn more from you!
Thanks! The reverb was truly dreadful. I can't imagine anybody using it. Also the noise cancelation was disappointing, affecting your voice too much; I think my Fulaim X5 was better.
@@ZdenkaDarula My first venture into wireless lavs was with a cheap $15 kit which also had reverb. Absolutely awful. And too easily switched on, as with its bad noise cancellation. The 'normal' audio wasn't too bad but you could never rely on the others being switched off. Only had one button for everything. Now replaced with Fulaim X5.
Can you please compare Rode Wireless and this one, when you do review the details of this microphone? Interesting things come from Hohem sometimes. Reverb has echo because Reverb definition says that, It's an ambient acoustic effect that we're constantly surrounded by, which occurs when the sound waves emitted from a sound source bounce off the surfaces within a space at varying times and amplitudes; creating a series of audible reflections. Normal mode sounds good, reverb not.
I get what your saying but even tho this sounds pretty solid you can’t compare the 2 it’s like comparing a Lamborghini to an Honda not only that RU-vid compresses everything so there that the rode and dji are the top 2 in the field the real question is your budget you just have to try them and see what works for you I done ran thru 15 camera bags and hated how they look and the plain grey interior or orange you get no matter what company til Peter McKinnon bag came out pricey but worth it fits all the gear doesn’t look like your day 2 day camera bag etc. and the pgytech one mo 2 looks good as well so morale to my. Story cheap is not always good but have it’s place for learning curves then you can move on to something better
Yes I agree with @WargodFilms…. You cannot compare these 2. This is bidet mic DJI mic is expensive. I certainly don’t have a budget to even buy it for my channel to review it in the first place….
@@ZdenkaDarula Thanks. I like it because can attach the receiver to the C port and use it with a gimbal or without one. Actually watched the other 2 reviews on RU-vid and ordered the "1TX plus 1RX Android" only, not the whole set from the Aliexpress smallrig store or can buy from the store website. Even though there is a store coupon for 7$ from a Smallrig, many people will not find that coupon. I have the Rode wireless me and some cheaper ones bought for 20+ dollars and not use that one.
Excellent review, thank you for showcasing the product. In my opinion the audio quality is kinda bad, but the product has some really cool features! I wouldnt mind paying like 50-70 usd more just to have noticeable better sound quality with those features, but until then the bad audio recording is a deal beaker for me.
Hi, I bought the Hohem mic but it doe not work with my samsung S9 I have searched trough the settings, trying to activate the USB-tethering but it still does not work Could someone help me with this problem please ?? 😢
Another very helpful review. I especially like that the receiver fits in the free well case as this has always been an issue with previous mics. Were you able to balance your isteady M6 using this mic plugged into an iPhone 15 pro max in the freewell case configured with their anamorphic lens and threaded nd filter?
This is a fantastic alternative to the Rode. I am very interested in this. I love the magnetic attachment! This set up is super affordable for someone like me who is a solo user. Thank you for this in depth introduction to the Hohem MIC-01.
Yes, you need to face the camera for range testing. Other Hohem testers are OK to 50m + ... Or wear it on your back, shoulder, or hide it on top of your head in your hair. This is why professionals tend to use UHF. 2.4GHz is the same frequency band as microwave ovens, so the signal gets absorbed by meat i.e. the human body. Beware different countries use different UHF frequencies for digital TV and mobile phones. Using a random UHF mic bought online or from abroad is likely to be illegal, and transmit and receive interference.
I tested the mic. There's such a strong and annoying background noise / hiss on my Samsung compared to other budget wireless systems. How to fix that?? Anyone experienced the same? Strange nobody talks about this.
Don't understand what the point in the reverb function is. Hollyland Lark M2 seems a better buy to be honest. especially with the size of the mics, although it doesn't record.
When it comes to reverb function, I feel exactly as you…. I thought many times how this could be used, but I can’t figure it out. Thank you very much for sharing our thoughts about this microphone.
Would be nice if they provided a companion app which would allow to fine tune the audio properties and effects, even though the noise cancellation sounded fine to me (at the strongest setting), but the reverb was too crude to be useful in its' current state. Ahoj!
Thanks Zdenka, have been waiting for a review of this as I wasn't sure it would add any advantage over my existing set up. Can see it will so now ordered one!
It is a great tutorial, but i have a question: In minute 2:53 you say that it supports a TF card up to 32Gb, is this implaying that a 64Gb card wouldnt work? Thank you.
Dobrý den, mluvíte česky? Potřeboval bych vědět, jestli mikrofony fungují i samostatně když do nich vložím paměťovou kartu. Anglicky bohužel neumím. Děkuji za odpověď. Jakub
Thank you for the information. I will use your link when I buy this, but tell me what you think of this idea. (Your watchers can comment, too.) I am starting a travel-related RU-vid channel and want to stick to my smaller budget. I will add narration in post-production. I have tried a Yeti connected to my computer and am not happy with it for the cost. Since this mic records to a micro-sd card, what do you think about me recording narration with this mic in my home studio and copying the audio to my PC for editing?
Great video as usual. Zdenka, I've been following your RU-vid channel for many years and have even subscribed to your Smartphone Filmmaking Course which is great as well. I have a question for you. in your "7 DJI OM4 Tips" RU-vid video you made 3 years ago you were describing the hyperlapse process and there was a music soundtrack playing in the background at around the 7:21 mark of the video which I really liked. You said in the video that you use Epidemic Sound for your sound tracks. I have a subscription to Epidemic sound as well. I tried to use Shazam to find out the name of that track but it didn't work. By any chance would you be able to tell me what Epidemic soundtrack that was? Thank you!
I wish honestly I knew what it was. Unfortunately I don’t save or bookmark the music…. I wonder if there is any way to search up for it but right now I don’t know… I am sorry…. Thank you for your support and I am very happy that the videos and course is working
You are awesome I have the black version with the USB-C and yet my iPhone is not recognizing it do I need to download an app? I looked in the App Store. They have every app except the one01 Mic
Thank you for your support. That is strange that it is not working for you. You should be able to plugin and go. There is no app needed. I would restart the phone, try updating the latest firmware…. Hopefully that will work
Congratulations for your videos, super professional and perfectly reviewed!!!! May I ask you if they would make sense to you as single recorders for two potential spouses? I used a friend's DJI mic and I must say that the performance was excellent but the expense was high.
Nice and informative video. I would like to ask I bought one as well but there is a small issue one of the mic doesn’t charge I don’t know why. Even I charge the mic only using cable usb c.
I thinks it’s a pretty cool mic for its intended purpose which is primarily cell phone videos. I’m wondering can you pass data through the usb to record to an ssd or flash drive?
Thank you very much for presenting the microphone. Four months ago I watched your advertisement. I was very interested then. Ambient noise is very disturbing and unavoidable when shooting videos and sports training. Visitors to my channel have repeatedly asked to improve the sound quality. Before I buy, I thank you again Zdenka!
I find these noise cancelling features make outdoor recordings sound unnatural. I use them but I find to make the audio sound natural…I’ll add in a ambience track.
For professional use I would have to say no, why ? Because the when noise cancelation was on . Your voice sounded at robotic, and I noticed a hissing in mic ... when I had on my headphones.
Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts. I noticed the budding too but I wasn’t sure if it is just me. So you heard it as well. I will address it with Hohem to make sure I didn’t select wrong settings but it is absolutely there..
Like the video.😊 The operation of this kit is quite complicated. It takes a lot of memory to recall everything on site on top of the camera things you need to recall.
i have a question: so i want to use blue tooth earbuds from jlab. AND use a lavalier or bluetooth mic. using BOTH at 1 time achieving similar effect as headset without using the bug clunky headset. i'd rather use bluetooth earbuds and bluetooth mic. i was wondering if the mic in this video can do that? my phone is a galaxy s21. i drive for a living. and i wear a rimmed hat and clunky headsets dont fit my head. and the headsets thats an ear piece to me they all are heavier and clunkier than my jlab earbuds. i got jlab work buds which has a mic but it doesnt work well for driving people i talk to cant hear me.
I unfortunately cannot answer your question ask don’t have the items. What you could do is get it through Amazon, carefully open it, test it and if it doesn’t work return it… that is the only option I see here in this case
@@ZdenkaDarula yeah i have a few lav mics coming will do. i also forgot how to do returns on amazon. ill trying to visit amazon support pages maybe it will say.
All small mics will have some noise. You can move it up, closer to the mouth, to get higher signal. You can turn on the mic's noise reduction. You can quieten the environment. You can apply better noise reduction in post-production, better tailored to the recorded signal. The mic's own noise reduction is only 'better' at 5:21, if you concentrate on the noise and ignore the loss of quiet signal and distortion. Also the noise is still noticeable 'pumping up' during spoken words: it can only really be removed from the silence between words. Unnatural. DSP can't do the impossible. This is not a bad attempt, though.
Interested in getting. The issue is I will need one for my laptop Type C and one for my Iphone 14. I need to record on phone and also from laptop. if I buy the c type version, will the iphone c port adaptor be good if I then use it on my phone?
Or a better option would be to buy the one for the Iphone and get a connector to link to laptop C type? Then at least there are no extra adapter when using on phone as an extra adapter on phone will make it very cumbersome.
Good question…. I love the features with Hohem but the quality is a bit better with Comica… I have to be honest…. Normal sound is good, but the filters are adding some artificial noise in the background.
Manual (from Amazon B0CQLVS1F7) says 'Yes' ... "The TX features a TF card slot. When TX is not connected to RX and a TF card is detected, the product can function as a standalone recorder. To ensure optimal recording results, you can select a suitable noise cancellation mode based on the environment. * It supports up to a 32GB TF card (in FAT format) with the capacity to record up to 94 hours."
Hello Zdenka. I love your channel. Bought the Hohem steady lately after watching your review. Now a question for this mic. Is it somehow possible to use it with the gimbal and an external SSD? I am thinking of getting a new phone and this mic. But I guess when recording in 4K I will run out of storage pretty soon. What do you say? Thank you.
Thank you for your support. I think any case you need to look at Bluetooth microphone… there is one which works with all apps, but it is not cheap. I think it’s called smartmic + something like that
Hello again. I bought the hohem mic 1. now I am trying to figure out if it is possible to record to different tracks with the two mics. I did not find a way. Am I missing something here? Or is it just not possible? Best regards Jonas
@@ericd7709 Thank you! I did not think of that option. I did not check the files of the cards yet and realize, that they are different from each other, which is quiet obvious :|
Because the receiver always works connected to a USB source, it does not need to be charged. The power to make it work comes from the cellphone or computer.
Hi - (firstly love your videos, always super informative) I got myself one of these, but am finding the range to be really really bad - any tips? The distorted disconnect you get in your range test, is what I experience at only 1-2 paces away, worse if I turn away. I only every wanted use it for up to about 5m maybe. But at this range I can't even set the camera down and talk to it at more than an arm's reach reliably. I tried it in the house and outside in the open, just incase there was interferance
@@ZdenkaDarulaYeah... I have emailed them, its a good product but the range makes it barely worth using. Annoyingly this is already the second one I have ordered - they sent me the wrong version the first time and direct from their site it takes weeks to get the new one thanks for the reply
"just incase there was interferance" The frequency band is the same as Bluetooth and WiFi, so disabling those on your phone might help? Maybe even phone calling, too -- Airplane mode? With other microphones, I find the microphone usually 'wins' and bluetooth speakers and earbuds fail first ...
@@ericd7709Thanks for the suggestion - turns out it was a faulty mic. To update - I did get a replacement sent out from Hohem and I tested the mic at the same location with the same setup, on my gibmbal/tripod, as I did before it didn't cut out at the short distances I was using it before, did around 10m just moving around fine. So tested going all the way down the road and it managed fine. I think at around 80m approx it started 'robot-ing'. Maybe twisting and facing away from the reciever and such could diminish this though, I was facing it with the mic on my front - was going for max distance
The Synco P2L charges the 2 transmitters and the receiver as soon as you put them in their box so are all 3 always ready to use. They also work at a distance of 250 metres.
I would say that dji mic sounds warmer, but this is great option for taking it around and not feeling bad if i break it or loose it. Plus is lighter than dji mic, is a win 🥇
Hi Zdenka As always an excellent review. I bought the Hohem M6 on the back of your review. I'll be buying the Mic as well now. I needed a mic set and the Røde option was pricy for me as a hobbiest. I think that as I have a Hohem gimbal it would be best to go with a hohem design mic. I can't see the need for the reverb option, can't see what I would use that. The middle option on the noise cancellation sounded a bit odd, like it was impacting on your voice but the yellow option sounded good. Regards from Ireland
Okay.. I purchased the comica mic set based on your reviews and couldn't be happier.. The ONLY things I wish it had was the ability to record locally on to a micro SD or internally to the transmitter. AND the ability to add my own LAV mic because the big transmitter clipped to the talents shirt is distracting.. THIS set solves BOTH of those problems! AWESOME....
@@ericd7709 I'd kinda rather buy memory cards. Rather than rely on internal memory. BTW.. I got the Hohem MC01 and it works great.. But I put in a samsung 64GB U3 card and it had errors when recording.. it would skip.. So I picked up the SanDisk 32GB U3 High Endurance Video MicroSDHC card and TADA! It works perfectly!
