The Hohenfriedberger march is one of the best known German military marches. It is named for the victory of the Prussians over the allied Austrians and Saxons in 1745 (during the Second Silesian War) in the Battle of Hohenfriedberg.
Footage was taken from a German documentary film called "Die Deutchen" or The Germans.

this march is inspiring! I came here because I don't want to study for my exams, but all of a sudden I feel the discipline all over my body. Now I will do my duty like a Prussian soldier. No more youtube for me today!

Very true - and the Prussian and - later on - Germanic "state" (or rather "bund") was the tragic result of having a Nation built BY an Army and not viceversa. An Army should follow the interests of the State and protect it, not the other way around. Having a State that follows the interests of the Army is not much of good LONG-TERM ...sort of ... "deal". PS. Though - if may add something - I do not consider "Old Fritz" the creator of the TRUE "German Army" - I'd say that was rather the work of Gneisenau, Scharnhorst, Clausewitz and - later on - Bismarck and Moltke Sr. Unfortunately those men - who were all true, 100% "Men Of War" - also knew how to use and (most important of all) when NOT to use it. Wilhelm the 2nd and his generals weren't so wise anymore - OBVIOUSLY - correct me if I'm wrong. I'm no "expert" on German History.

@@HrHaakon Arouet ("Voltaire") and "Friedrich" might have been "good friends" (...probably! - not so sure about it!...), but sure as hell not when they were together! :D Too many similarities betwen the characters, and in the in Prussian court there was only space for ONE King! :) Although it's true they remained on good terms, when they separated...

Now I will explain once. In Prussia, it was customary to name the regiment after regiment chief. And that was 1745, the Margrave of Bayreuth. (The song is indeed sung Ansbach Bayreuth, but as the regiment was only later.) Is The Regiment is a regiment of Pasewalk in the Prussian province of Pomerania.

"At that time Prussia was looked on as a great school master in the martial arts, as France was later, and as Germany is now. The English army has been mainly a copyist of other people's methods since the century began. If, after Crimea or the Italian campaign of 1859, we adopted kepi shaped hates, baggy "pegtop" trousers and "booted overalls" for riding, so, when Germany became successful we copied her "Blucher boots", flat topped forage caps, infantry helmet, and rank distinctions!" "In this case too, the Prussian system was the basis of our drill instruction, and, with but slight modifications, so remained until 1870, when linear formations gave place to extended order." Page 157 "The Story of the British Army" by C.C. King. "Following Frederick's striking victories in the Silesian Wars, most armies including Britain, quickly clamored to copy the Prussian way of war, and a quarter century later this process of adopting Prussian techniques continued under the Germanophilic sons of George III. This created an era, beginning at the middle of the century and extending to its last decade, when the British army (like others) shared much with this German model, further creating similarity and commonalities between various armies, just as the French innovations had impacted Western Europe a century before." Page 38 German Forces and the British Army: Interactions and Perceptions, 1742-1815 By Mark Wishon An account dated from the year 1801 "The modern improved system is derived from Frederick, the father of the great King of Prussia. He was the first that caused the manual exercises to be contracted, and then the motions performed close to the body. This new method came soon to be copied or imitated by other nations. About 1757, a new manual of exercise was introducted into the British army, a good deal resembling the Prussian, and this exercises has of late been simplified and reduced to a smaller number of motions."
