Hoi Polloi Tarot 

I know this is an older video, but I want to comment about my Hoi Polloi deck. In fact, I just rediscovered it this evening. It has been “lost” for a while amongst my boardgames from childhood. My parents gave me this deck as a gift when I was about 8 years old, give or take, so that would be about 1980. My deck has three, not four, blank/white cards (maybe I lost one over the years. 🤔). Like your deck, mine also contains cards with matte, cardboard-ish backs as well as cards with smooth, varnished backs. The packaging/box it came in is long gone. I don’t remember anything about the packaging. The deck itself is all I have. Amazingly, the deck is complete and in very good shape, despite being played with by me as a child. ☺️ I’m astounded that I haven’t lost it over the years. I’ve recently become interested in tarot again and happened to notice this deck in your all time favorite decks video. I caught a glimpse of it and instantly recognized it. I searched my house for it today and found it. So very happy I managed to hold onto it over the decades. Holding it in my hands transports me, like a photograph, to a time when I felt so safe and loved without a care in the world, to a time when my parents were still alive. It’s a good feeling. I’m 50 now, and life is good. Yet there are certain picture perfect moments in childhood, like when I was 8. It’s fascinating how objects can hold memories. Or that we can ascribe memories to objects. Anyway, I’m rambling! I want to tell you that I adore your channel. I’ve learned so much in recent days from you. Thank you! 🙏

My Hoi Polloi came in a similarly-shaped box but with a burgundy interior. The LWB is a pamphlet, vellum, kind of olde timey. In terms of your question about saturation mine is very saturated, very vibrant so it seems that there were several printings with different quality. Either way it's a fab deck and yours, with the slightly less saturated colors, is really lovely.

I found a 1972 brown box set and the cards all feel the same way like cardboard-y but some are cut different sizes slightly. Currently looking for a purple box version because I’m afraid of touching my brown box ones 😂

I don’t know what it is about this deck, but I just adore it!!! Yours is in excellent condition... the one I bought is in ok condition but no box... I love the cardboard feel of the cards.... and it’s so cool having pieces of paper still in good shape from the early 70s.... fabulous deck ! Enjoy yours! BTW, the deck I have is definitely more vibrant than the one you showed.

Great video! I got my 2nd copy of this deck yesterday, some of the cards are quite beat up but it came cheap and with the box and booklet, whereas the first set I bought was cards only but in immaculate condition.

I Have a deck that is frankensteined..lol I bought a 70 card deck and got the replacements of the missing cards but the replacements were the papery backed ones...I'm ok with it..just fun to have a copy

I have a version of this deck from 1972, it's my husband's mom's from her college days. The high priestess in mine has a dark green while all others are lime green (all other green ones) otherwise they look very similar. mine are much more vibrant than the deck you show.

Hi from Portland, Oregon! I just recently bought this deck of ebay. Adding a little information...the box of my deck is a burgundy rose color. Style# 176-600. The inside cardboard insert is also the burgundy rose color. The cards are copyrighted 1972. And the booklet is copyrighted 1973. The booklet is 36 pages about and 5 12/" x 8 1/2"and features the Sun card on the front. On the first page there is an association of the minor arcana to playing cards as well as an interesting explanation of the court cards that I don't think I've ever read in any other decks LWB. King = Spirit, Queen = Heart, Knight = Ego and Page= Body. For a deck"of the people" the instructions are rather profound. Words such as subconscious, intuition, insight, wit psychic, psychological.....it talks of wrapping the deck in silk to protect its vibrations and not letting anyone else handle them and then goes into a detailed talk about how to do a reading for yourself and others. I think this deck is deeper than the simplistic art portrays. It doesn't feel like it was a "toy". First spread featured is called the Gypsy Spread...that's groovy...ha. There is a 35 card spread! I'll have to try that one out. All the cards have a brief description with a black and white picture of them. The colors on my cards are what I call Acid colors. Very vibrant and saturated. Very 1960's colors. And the skin tones are either tan or a little darker. This has become a favorite deck along with the Aquarian and the Morgan-Greer. I'm a child of the late 60's/70's and love everything about those eras. Hope this gives you some more information about this deck. On another note...I wanted so badly to attend the Northwest Tarot Convention but I was out of town. I was hoping to meet some fellow tarot lovers in Oregon!

I just unboxed mine today... I got it from eBay. It's beautiful, I needed the change of colors. It's missing it's death card though . I guess using one of the blank cards it came with would be a good substitute though.

Anyone willing to sell me their deck? This is my first deck and it was bought at a yard sale in the 1980s. I actually still have the booklet copywrited 1972!!

Horrors! I've sometimes wondered if items that are advertised as being shrink-wrapped are items that have been opened and are used and might be defective or lacking in some way. So sorry this happened to you. You seem to have recovered from the shock. Good for you!
