I bought the Clifton 7's a few wks before the 8's were on the market. Love 'em. So good for those long and recovery runs. I have a slightly wider foot but have had no issues with this shoe and I have the standard width.
Really glad you are enjoying your Clifton 7's and they fit well Ian 👍 I think it really depends on where your width is when it comes to your foot shape. Over the years in store I've had a few runners suffer from blistering on the instep from the Clifton midsole 🤔 Thanks for watching the review I hope you enjoyed it 🙏
It is always a real pleasure to watch your reviews, thanks a lot Loyd! 👍🏻😉 I’ve recently found that Clifton is truly great running shoes, using its previous 7th version now. Very light, comfortable and having just great balance of cushioning.
Thanks Andrey that's very kind and I'm glad you enjoyed the review 👍 That's great that you've found a shoe that works for you! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
No outtakes/bloopers at the start of thr video, so can only assume you nailed everything on the first take! 😅 Great review as always, Loyd. Looking forward to your race day vid!
Yeap that's right Gavin, I did the whole video in one take! 😉 If only that was true, thanks for watching and supporting the channel. The race video should be along soon 👍😊
Hi Lloyd, great review, love your energy. I've still a few miles in the clifton 7, an amazing shoe. I think Hoka are doing a superb job and I've completely changed my allegiance from Nike. The Hoka carbon X2 is a great shoe to work alongside the clifton.
Thanks Dave, that's really kind and I'm glad you're enjoying the channel! I've been running in Hokas for a longtime and they really have had a massive impact on the running shoe industry! 👍 Thanks for watching and supporting the channel its really appreciated 🙏
@@Run4Adventure was watching the news last night with Boris and Joe at the G7 summit thinking there’s no way Loyds going to be able to run those roads with that security presence 🤣🤣🤣
Hi Loyd. Nicely done. I have been a fan of the Rincon/2 for tempo and longer runs. I would be interested to hear your view on how the Rincon 2 compares to the Clifton 8 when you do the full review. Look forward to the race video! Cheers, Richard
The Rincon is a great, versatile running shoe Richard 👍 We'll definitely be doing a comparison video on the Clifton 8 and the Rincon once I've got some more miles in the new Cliftons 😊 Thanks for watching and supporting the channel its appreciated 🙏
Great review, thanks Lloyd. I definitely agree with your sizing issue - I'm also a 91/2 and tried a pair on the other day - found a bit short and also tried on a 10 which felt much 'better'. Noticed on the box the 91/2 is equivalent to a US 10 only so definitely smaller. Definitely tempted for my rotation.
Glad it's not just me when it comes to the sizing Matt! 👍 It definitely felt pretty short on lenght, a part from that though it felt really comfortable out in its first run. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Great review. I currently have clifton 6 which need replacing. Tried the invincibles and react infinity, decent cushion but I got arch pain on both - I have narrow feet. I’m going to return those for the clifton 8.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video. I'm pretty narrow in foot shape and the Clifton 8 does work well for that. Hope they fit and run well, thanks for watching the channel 🙏😊
@@Run4Adventure I’ve had to half size up on the clifton 8 as my usual size is way too snug. Surprising as all reviews say they’re true to size and toe box wider than 7. However I am coming from the 6, which is still quite a large shoe. My size 8.5 in the clifton 6 is still bigger than a size 9 in the clifton 8. Either way I’ve settled on the size 9. Cheers
What a great video Cornwall is a beautiful part of our country I had the Clifton 7 9.5 Way to narrow Caused bad blisters Would advise a 10 size or 9.5 wide? Any thoughts Thanks
It's true, the Cliftons have a surprisingly snug fit, especially when looking at that wide midfoot area. It's quite deceiving. However, it should be mentioned that the Cliftons (among some other Hoka models) are offered in various widths. I'm still enjoying my Clifton 7, mostly for my easy runs. I very much agree that while it does provide a soft (as in „shock absorbing“) ride, it's never unstable or too squishy which makes it perfect for smooth and mellow runs. What is it that makes the color of your Cliftons odd in real life? On video they look *incredible*. Like edible lava or something :-)
Yeap it does come in a width fit option which is always a good thing. Glad you're enjoying your Clifton 7's 👍 As far as the colour, it does look great on screen but in really life its more like a funny peach colour! 🍑 Just an odd colourway for a man's shoe! Thanks for watching 🙏
Reminds me to the Mach 4 look like same foam Did you run in Mach 4 and if so is it same I’m a bit confuse with hoka shoes Love the Mach so not sure if I would need this one
The midsoles are actually quite different when it comes to the two shoes. The Mach 4 has a profly midsole, so it got to different type of cushioning. The top layer is soft and the bottom layer is firmer so the shoe feels comfortable but responsive. The Cliftons midsole is constructed using the same soft cushioning, so it's soft but I think the Mach 4 feels like a quicker shoe 😊 Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏
hello loyd congr for the videos which you made. I have to run an ultra marathon 54 km in dicember which shoes do you think is better for me to buy. the hoka clifton 8 or the asics noosa tri 13? thanks for the answer take care
Thanks Tore 👍 Obviously a lot of it comes down to what fits and feels best so If you can get to a shop and try them on its always the best way. Both shoes could handle the race but the Cliftons might be more suited to that kind of distance. Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏😊
Great. I took Clifton 8 today. Somehow I find it be a little tighter ( I'm currently running in Saucony Ride 15). Is it normal or does it strech after few runs.
Think I've had the Clifton from 2-6, then swapped to the Rincon2 which is a great shoe but not very durable. Will check out the Clifton when my current Rincons are done.
I saw the new Rincon 3 the other day Ian and Hoka have finally put more blown rubber on the outsole! It's only taken a few years for them to figure it out 😉
ooh that would be a good addition Loyd. sad to say I DNFd SDW100 yesterday, I was managing the heat well (unlike a lot) but collapsed with some massive hip pain at 70km in and could not continue. Pretty gutted 😥
@@ianl4518 Really sorry to hear that Ian, I hope the hip isn't to bad! 😕 Unfortunately it can happen when you're pushing the body hard over that sort of distance. Rest up mate and recover well 🏃♂️💪
Thanks Loyd. There will be some positives take from the day will make themselves clear over the next couple of days but it's hard to see them now! Looks like 133 DNF out of 442!
Clifton is a classic easy day shoe. Looks like another sunny day in Cornwall. We had the same weather when we were down near Falmouth last week. Falmouth was also crazy because of the G7 as they've closed off the area around the marina and National Maritime Museum to house a lot of the media people. Baffling decision. 🤷♂️
Yeap I totally agree Stuart, a great easy day shoe 👍 It's a little bit crazy down here but not to bad, battle ships in the bay, missile launchers at Godrevey Lighthouse, you know just the norm! 😂😂😂
Top video! Regarding Massage Gun.. You mentionned it a few times... Is it something you can recommend or is it more a gadget one will not really uses in the end? We have been thinking about it but are not sure if it is worth the investment... :-)
Thanks Roland, glad you enjoyed the review. It's funny you should ask because I'm just about to film a review on a massage gun we've been testing 👍 I personally think they're a good tool to have and they can really help when it comes to body maintenance. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel as always 🙏
@@Run4Adventure Hi Loyd, many 🙏 - so we are looking forward to the video 🤩👍 ... well, the more experienced you get, the more maintenance is needed 🤞😜😂🙉 Keep it up, we love your channel 👍👍
No worries Robert, thanks for watching 👍 The Trailfly ultra handled the race really well, unfortunately my under trained body struggled a bit more! The only thing I would say is I could do with going up half a size to a uk10 for longer distance 👍 Thanks for watching 🙏
I run my first marathon with Asics Nimbus 22 but now it's heavy for me. Would you suggest Clifton 8 for my second, faster marathon? I plan to run it in 4:15 minutes.
It woukd definitely be lighter and softer than your asics shoes Georgios and it would be a good marathon shoe 👍 Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏😊
@@Run4Adventure road. I see you mentioned that you're normally a 9.5uk but would consider a 10uk in the Clifton. Are they really that tight? I think I may be similar to you with my right foot being slighter longer than my left
I saw the Rincon 3 the other day in store and it looks like a good update. Thanks for watching the channel and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏😊
I'd definitely go up at least half a size Diego, it definitely sizes up small 👍 Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel it's appreciated 🙏😊
If its a road run I think it would handle distance well Tina. The Ultra running scene is where Hoka made their mark and still dominate it today. If you go along to any Ultra Marathon a large percentage of the runners will be in Hokas 👍 Hope this helps and good luck with your races, thanks for watching 🙏
Unfortunately I got injured after making this video and couldn't run for a whole month so I didn't make a follow up video on the Clifton 8. Hope you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching 🙏😊
I was disappointed with the 7 after loving the 6 , the midsole just felt like old technology compared to some its competitors . Sizing was way off for me as well .
The Midsole has been changed in the new Clifton 8's apparently, to a lighter and softer compound 🤔 Unfortunately the sizing still seems a bit off. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Unfortunately I didn't Kris. I had a lot of shoes to test and review at the time and I never got the milage in the Cliftons 😕 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏😊
The arch can be a problem for some! I think it really depends on your foot shape, especially at the midfoot. Because you are sunk down into the midsole of most Hokas, if you're to wide the guide rail can cause problems 😔 Thanks for watching the channel it's appreciated Owen 🙏
If you can run 7min miles then yes you can 😊 The Clifton is pretty lightweight so it feels pretty good at quicker tempos. Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏
It's definitely not to colourful, you know I love colour! 😊 It looks great on the screen but In really life its quite an odd colour for a men's shoe 🤔 Thanks for watching Gary 🙏
