Today I took the all new Hoka Mach X, the latest plated daily trainer to hit the marker for a run a share with you my first impressions review. This shoe was send to me from Pro:Direct Running for the purpose of review but as always my thoughts and opinions are very much my own. Let me know in the comments if you'll be picking this one up. Hi Ben, as always appreciate the great content and your honest opinion. If it is more like a daily training for easy/progression runs that could do some tempo... how would they compare with the Clifton 9 (which fits in my opinion that description in the Hoka line up)? Thanks, Víctor

I ran 600k in Clifton 8. Tried Clifton 9, Mach 5 and Mach x at the shop. From my perspective Clifton 9 have now a better fit than 8's, but still feel lazy. Not an up tempo shoe. Mach 5 has slightly less cushion than Clifton 8, but still enough for easy runs. However it feels much lighter and much faster. It's definitely a more modern foam technology. Mach x fit is a bit slim in forefoot, i had to go half a size up. In terms of cushion it's comparable with clifton 9, but still getting a lot of snappiness like mach 5. I went with Mach 5, i really like them. The outsole will probably wear down fast, but they just vanish on the foot. I'm still thinking about adding the mach x to my rotation, but not sure about the snug fit.

Do you think this would do well for marathon long runs? I'm in the market for a new pair of shoes after doing my last marathon block long runs in Mach 4s. Loved the Hoka fit on my feet.

Love the mach 4, I wasn’t as keen on the 5..don’t like the tongue and seem like there too much shoe… I’m a mach guy..love them…won’t pay 160 for them… Tired legs never the day to go out and test a pair mate.

Any thoughts on carbon racing shoes replacing daily trainers? I'm wondering if fast runners like you use carbon plated shoes for easy and recovery runs instead of using daily trainers.

I absolutely love the Mach X. Use it for Steady Runs, Tempos & sessions… including track when my legs are feeling battered! Just such a great shoe. Tbh, I’d probably use it for easy runs if I didn’t feel obliged to rotate something else in. Really interested to see what everyone thinks of the Mach X.

Have two Hoka shoes even another in family. But all case blisters in forearch. Found that many people complain about. Very comfy shoes, but unable to use them any longer than 5kms.

Hey so my uptempo trainers are pretty much done (500+ mi) and I’m looking for a new pair. Does anyone have recommendations? I’ve been thinking the Mach x or NB SC trainer 2, but I’m down for other options

Did you get the Mach 5 in wide? Wonder if the x is also available in wide. I think the 5 needs to be half a size down and wide if you have anything g but super narrow feet.

Great first impressions video! As far as you and Fordy said on their initial reviews, I tend to prefer Asics Superblast as a training partner of my race day shoes. They are such a fast, durable and stable shoes!

Nice review. Just one thing, the drop stats don’t add up, 39 to 33 is a 6mm drop not 5mm as stated?

Excellent review Ben. Feels like a shoe that I'm going to give a try. £160 feels a bit steep, but once the price gets down to a bit more of an affordable level definitely going to try them out :) Currently running in the Mach 5 and always thought it could use a bit more of cushioning (coming back from a long and bad fracture injury in my shin)

I love my Mach 5s, just got another pair, and have X3 for race days. Mach X looks great but the cost @ £160 is to much when can get the 5s for a really good price; and for daily running that is all you need I believe.

@@crankgreenwatts How do you find the Carbon X3’s compared to the Mach 5s?? I’m currently on 760k for my Mach 5s and they’re still going strong, I’ll be buying a new pair of them for my next daily’s but want a racier version for all out max efforts
