Hokkaido, Asahidake - Deepest day of my life

We made a death or glory mission from Niseko up to Asahidake in January as the winds looked very strong in Niseko. The gamble paid off and we were rewarded with the deepest and driest snow I've ever come across. We spent a day skiing in the forests below the volcano and then had a good weather window to ascend to the peak on another day. Incredible ski destination, will be back one day for sure.
If you need any advice on places to stay, prices etc. feel free to get in touch.

Skiing off of Asahidake was my favorite part of the trip I did back in 2020.

Beautiful mountain, skillfully scaled. But in that deep forest...I'd be worried about fallen trees hideen in the snow.

Thank you! Luckily the snow was that deep we didn’t touch the bottom

Hey bro quick question if you dont mind answering. Once you get off the gondola can u ski from the top of it all the way back to the bottom of the gondola without traverssing or climbing?

You can yes mate, there’s a few nice lines straight from the Gondi. My advice would be to familiarise yourself with the map there just to make sure you don’t end up in a flat zone and have to hike out

Hi Joe, we`ve been in Furano the last seven days but haven't had so much pow as you guys got. However we are coming back next year and aiming for Asahidake then. If you wanna go for a day with just the treelines, is that possible from the top of the gondola station? Or do you need to skin as well? Is it possible to do treelines all the way back to the gondolastaion for a new ride up? Which would be the place to stay ( were no fancy guys but a comfortable bed, an onsen and a hot meal is crucial ) Thanks buddy

Hi Morgan, you can ride without skins from the gondola back down to the bottom. You can access some great tree skiing without having to skin up. I'd make yourself familiar with the map there before dropping in, as it's easy to get stuck on a flat zone. This can be a killer to get out of without a touring set up. In terms of accommodation I would recommend K's House Hostel, it's a 2 minute drive from the lift station and has an onsen. They don't have a restaurant but they have a kitchen you can cook in etc. So I'd take food with you beforehand as it's a fair drive to the next town at the bottom of the valley. There is a small shop that sells bits and bobs in Asahidake lift station. Hope this is useful and enjoy Asahidake!
