Yes, absolutely. Ants too! I remember seeing an episode of MacGyver (the original 1980’s series with Richard Dean Anderson) when I was a kid. I think they were down somewhere in South America, and MacGyver had to deal with like a carpet of millions of ants traipsing through the jungle eating everything in its path, and since that day, like piranhas, I thought ants were going to be a huge problem for me in life, along with the usual suspects like quicksand and sharks of course. Fortunately for me in eastern Canada, we don’t have a lot of piranhas, quicksand, or sharks, so three outta four threats gone ain’t so bad. Just gotta watch out for those dam ants!
The living relationship between birds and piranhas is very interesting . At the wet season the piranhas eats injured or newborn birds falling from the trees but at the dry season when piranhas struggle to breathe in very shallow water they are eaten by birds . The full circle .
@Mr. Cool That's different. Everyone knows if you jump off building you'll die. Common sense. But it's not obvious that swimming in a river you'll get eaten alive. So I think you'd get in trouble. If would be like if I said "driver this car" when I know it doesn't have brakes.
@@ericolens3 I mean, piranhas kept in aquariums (the same species as this one) are actually known to be slow and calm, maybe it's because of food scarcity where the aggression kicks in
@@ericolens3 bro if you watched the video he answered your question. They are scared to approach if the animal can react violently. A scout Phirana tested the duck to see its reaction and then the signal came it was safe for a feeding frenzy. That means that they won’t bite if you are swimming or walking and not struggling and bleeding. Even if one bit you, a strong reaction would keep them scared away.

I live in Venezuela where our main rivers are infested with this dangerous animal. Their bit is so powerful that it is able to cut a steel fish hook as if they were made of wood. That happened to me many times in my life while fishing.

Piranhas don't even eat humans. For some reason they find us unappealing. They'd have to be starved and you'd have to be bleeding for them to attack you.

theyre medium sized fish. They nibble off the flesh in small pieces, but they are neither willing nor capable of biting into the bones. Its not like feeding crocodiles that tear of huge chunks of their prey.

I was surprised to see them being cautious. Seems like they could easily overtake any creature they wanted. I've touched a dead one's teeth, and they're as sharp as they look.
I used to have 2 of these. The redder their belly gets, the hungrier they are. When I’d feed them goldfish, they would always attack the tail first to keep it from swimming around. Savages.
@@justinupchurch1773 I'd give them each 2-3 a couple times a week. Always wanted to try them with a mouse, but never did. I was afraid it might make a mess of the tank.
@@nuclearchef-san8304 I would swim with them. You haven't seen videos of people doing that debunking that old superstition? I've seen someone go in a carnival dunk tank full or them and they didn't get bit once. The only way you would get eaten by them is if you get seriously injured and can't get out of the water and I'm talking like arm cut off type injury lol a little cut wont make them attack......its all been proven many times.

@@sqybyu8300 Red belly piranhas, while very capable, mainly eat fish, insects, worms, and shellfish. They will sometimes eat larger prey but only if it's dead or severely wounded. That's why they only really go after the food the man put in the water after it released blood and flopped around for a bit.
