So much easier explaining it this way whether steam gauge or glass cockpit! Thank you for simplifying a task that traditionally gives students anxiety when executing a holding pattern.

Thanks for a nice and simple explanation on holdings! I'm doing this now on my IFR training and believe it's kind of confusing! Thanks again!

When doing tear drops I remember the acronym LARS. Left add, right subtract. Left holding pattern add 30 degrees to out bound course and for right turns subtract 30 degrees from the outbound course and track that for a minute before turning.

Nice graphics in this video. Good idea about visualizing the VOR in the center of the DG. I like the golden racetrack magically appearing. This procedure is easy to remember when you're driving to the Fix and creating your own golden racetrack. It reminded me of Golden Freddy in FNAF. Just remember he can't GET YOU if you follow the instructions and stay on the protected side of the hold.
@jimflys2
@jimflys2 6 лет назад
And just remember to stay on the "safe side" of the hold and you will be legal and safe. Just keep crossing the VOR or fix and you'll be fine. Those safe sides are like 4 miles wide and 10 miles long, so as along as you are on the correct side, it doesn't matter how pretty your track looks. The better you fly it, the better your positional awareness will be .

Would’ve been nice to see different examples of this with aircraft headings other than due north... does this method work regardless of where your HI is pointed?

This technique also works by using the CDI. After the OBS is selected on a course direct to the fix it is essentially oriented the same way as your heading indicator. So if your heading indicator fails you can still use this technique.

After turning from departure leg to crosswind, and to downwind leg, continue climbing beyond 1,000 AGL and maintain heading (180º from the runway used) downwind away from the airport.

question, in direct entry the first outbound and inbound legs are Considered the entry? or the holding it self? I wanna know if the First inbound needs to be timed 2.

Seriously, how do you know which direction the arrows point, you can have right turns with racetrack in 2 different positions
@Bulgdoom
@Bulgdoom 10 лет назад
***** Not that, thats easy. I sort of figured it out eventually. You always head TOWARDS to fix point, then make your turns. Initially I didn't know from what direction you're supposed to start since influences entry procedure
@joelpedro
@joelpedro 10 лет назад
davidGTI I think if that's the case, ATC will mention "left turns".

+Bulgdoom your turns to the right are based on the inbound course. So if he told you to hold on the 330 radial, imagine flying toward the VOR on that radial, then make the right turn race track in your mind.
@Bulgdoom
@Bulgdoom 9 лет назад
+Superbimo I figured it out long time ago, initially when I started i had no instructor or book, its always pointing towards the VOR. Got my CPL, IFR, and now studying for the ATPL.

Jason - This method is not too accurate, and also "visualizing" on a dark stormy turbulant night is requiring too much. I'd be glad to show you an even easier and more accurate method that's seen me through +35 years of flying.
