It's a warning as well as a nervous response. Some people always assume it's because they are going to attack. They are frightened and it's a manifestation of their fear
That little fluff ball could do more damage than you may realize. I once approached some kittens and the guy with me had a dog that made one of the lil itty bitty kitten's hair stand on end. I decided that I was gonna pet that on edge lil fur ball anyways. Within a moment he/she had shredded my arm and was hanging from my finger by it's tooth. Might have been a little smaller than the kitten in this video.
Neil Law I have LOL. I saw it in the middle of the road in a neighborhood not moving and I thought it needed to be saved and as soon as I went to reach for it, it bit the shit out of me and then ran off under a trailer. I was like well fuck you too then 🤣
It is a shame that so many people are putting negative comments on this post. I am sure that none of these folks have had any experience with feral kittens. Trimming a cat's nails does not harm them. Declawing is the inhumane thing, but she is not doing that here. She is simply trimming his little nails, which does not hurt him -- he is feisty because he is still acting like a wild kitten. Taking in feral kittens is a huge commitment and requires special care and handling, which is exactly what she is doing here. I co-fostered 6 kittens with a friend of mine and it took awhile for them to learn to trust us. But after fostering them for 4 weeks, they turned out to be the most loving little fur babies and all of them were adopted to good homes. They would have likely had a very hard life on the streets if not taken in (a previous litter from the same feral momma ended up dying). In fact, one of the 6 kittens we took in had gotten his head stuck in between some boxes that were left outside near a shipping container and it was just a miracle that my friend heard him crying -- that is how she knew the feral momma had had another litter, so she decided to rescue them. She ended up adopting him and he is such a sweetheart!
+Mary Moser Thanks for the nice post! The lady is helping the kitten, and that is important! :)Thanks for fostering the kittens ,that you wrote about,it takes a special person to do that, glad they were adopted out! :)
+Dab Dab -- I don't personally trim my cat's nails. But many people do trim in order to keep down the potential for deep scratches. It seems to be a personal preference, but it doesn't harm the animal.
+Mary Moser I'd never trimmed before, but now my cat is getting old he's not keeping them at a good length himself so I've had to start trimming them so they don't grow around in a circle and puncture into the pads of his feet. Only just caught one in time before it got to that point. This is something people should look out for in their cats, especially once they've passed the 10 year mark.
Grooming, including nail clipping is one way young kittens start the process of socializing. Making them, in the end much more adoptable. And frankly, cat's nails just like Humana fingernails after cutting...will grow back; Jake is now 6 years old and doesn't give a rap when I clip his claws. And when done right, as this lady is doing, the kitties are not harmed in any way. What a stupid comment, saying this lady was cruel. I don't see her in the least bit mishandling the little guys.
It's nice to see that people like Yvonne work with these cats and kittens because frankly the life of a feral cat is not pleasant. Most of them suffer tremendously and die young. The people who try to save them are incredible. These cats deserve better than the life of abandonment awaiting them. Thanks for caring for them.
Yvonne is just WONDERFUL with animals. She knows her stuff, she is sweet yet firm, plus obviously she has a great personal energy that the animals respond to.
@@Add_Account485 really? How do you think their mother disciplines them? have you ever had a cat? Do you have a clue about how to train or raise them? I didn't think so.
I love how patient she is.. and I laughed at the adorableness of him having his mouth open and she gave him deworming medicine and he's like "mewwomnomnom" xD
just so people understand clipping a cats nails is different then declawing. clipping is just keeping them trim because if they are to long they could get hurt. declawing is taking the actual nail out.. so it's not cruel to cut a cats nails. . these little guys look like they are gonna do well.
they can't get hurt! is their nature! when they're young they learn to use their claws and to be gentle playing. if you cut them at this stage 1) they can't easily grab toy and that's frustrating 2) don't learn to play without hurting 3)don't learn to scratch and take autonomous care of they nails.. seen grown many house-cat and never get problem from their nail (maybe some forniture ruined but don't get a cat if that's a problem!)
Sofia Ferraro You idiot, housecats need their claws trimmed. If their claws aren't trimmed, especially dewclaws, the claws can grow in and cause a nasty infection. Do your homework on cats before you spew your PETA-humping garbage on the internet.
first you opinion value 0 because you started insulting me 2) i'm talking of my direct experience ok.. my family always had cats, my friend and my parents have cats. none of those cat was EVER trimmed and i ensure you NOBODY i know has ever had a problem with that.. i've never seen a cat get stuck or hurt (just kitten playing but they learn growing) here is almost strange to trim a cat claw and even vet doesn't do nor tell you ti do that in normal visit! maybe your cat can't care of themselves because you never let them learn how to, you idiot?
could you be any more ignorant? you talk about your experience as if it is the only possible truth. your cats did just fine without nail trimming? thats great! but there are plenty of cats who get infections if they nails dont get trimmed, and there is a big list of problems than can occur. and the reason vets don't tell you to do this or that is because it's a person preference; some people do, other people don't. and it being strange where you live? its because opinions change from a society to another. where i live, everyone trims their cats nails. does that convince you? no. then why should the opposite convince anyone? just say you care more about being right than about cats and GO.
Actually it comes up to what options the cats have. For house cats a proper scratching tool like a scratching post (actually several) should be provided. Cutting can be necessary if they show unusual growth for their own comfort. For this reason I check them regularily and my 2 girls by now take good care of it themselves, yet it is important to train it, so that if it becomes necessary they don't struggle against it(which they don't)...and I hate it more than they do by now because they know they get their favorite treats afterwards (tuna/beef heart).
I agree! That is quite a challenge to take on. Just domesticated kittens would be challenge enough. Feral kittens are a whole other ballgame, particularly the alpha of the group. Talk about small but fierce!
I'm not a cat fan but who could not root for these adorable little ones. And bless the heart of this little hold out. He needs to be the man of the house w/ Momma gone.
What a little guy. Long story but 5 years ago or so, I picked up 5 kittens on a country highway. It was fate because I was on the wrong road. In addition, I had stopped because I saw an adult cat (The mom) but she would not let me move towards here. For whatever reason, as I was walking back to the truck, I decided to look back again.... and 5 kittens jumped out of the weeds and started walking down the center of the highway towards me. They let me scoop them up, but I could not corral the mom. The kittens were very friendly and there was a house nearby.... I am wondering if they had human contact, but they needed vet care and the mom was wild. Anyways, they lived with me as I raised them and socialized them. And Cache Creek Animal Rescue found homes for the 4 boys and little girl. They said the kittens were the best kittens they ever had yet, parting with them was the most difficult thing I have ever done.
bg147 I cannot have a kitty anymore. Allergies nowadays keep me from doing so. I do love animals. But it always makes me glad whenever human beings take responsible care of their pets and other animals.

My mother tells the story of taking me to get some allergy test when I was, oh, about 14 or so. She says they put pin pricks all over my back in a pattern to find out what caused my allergic reactions. Turns out I was allergic to our cats. And when the doctor came back and told us this news, mom said I looked the doctor in the eye, my eyes narrowed and I said "So. What." in a quite hostile tone of voice. And to this day, I take Zyrtek for allergies. Because I'm allergic to cats? So. What.
I love this lady’s videos because she shows in detail how to handle feral or stray kittens! Thank you for making these videos and posting them! I would love to see more!
THANK YOU YVONNE, for doing this work with the feral kittens. You are making it possible for them to be "adoptable". We rescued some kittens who were born to a feral Mama but we got them when they were only about a week old, so they didn't even know they were feral, lol ! The three got lots of love and socialization and made great pets...we kept the boy and he's a VERY special guy. You are so kind to do this work !
You are so right to cut the nails. It protects you as well as the other kittens. It is so much better than those who declaw their cats. You obviously know exactly what you are doing. Great job. Lucky kittens.
The bravery of little kittens is inspiring...good on you for helping to socialize them. I have a big orange boy who was a neglected by the previous owner. At first he ran away, and hated being help. He now loves being with people but not toddlers sadly. My niece and nephew came over and he just saw two small animals, not humans. Still not a big fan of being held, but he will purr if you hold him like a baby and gently rub his stomach. Nail trims are a challenge...I shall try your food method next time he needs a mani-pedi
Barbara, i love the way you approach the kittens with a soft voice and a sure touch. they will be gentled down soon. cats are like people but with a twist, when you understand their habits and social order as you clearly do, all it takes is time, patience, food and a lot of love. Great job!
I really dislike the PETA freaks that say cutting the claws is stressing the animal and they can't defend themselves and crap. These people are off the charts cuckoo. This woman saved a litter that lost its mom. They are making it safer to handle, and the stress is not going to "harm" the animal. These people are just broken people with issues, personality issues. Starving or being eaten by other animals is far worse. They will get over it and get used to humans. Some people are plan stupid.
When you're trying not to like someone, but they're making it hard.

She's obviously doing a great job. The feeding thing was clearly skilled: she got some in his mouth, waited for him to realize it was good, then pet him. She didn't overclip the nails (a huge issue) and she generally helped socialize him. Well done.
Wonderful videos and wonderful work. Cats are amazing. We have 3- one feral and another orphaned. Had another stray 3 years ago, and two others who wandered into the barn during a frigid Maine winter. All have homes, and our 3 are great. Personalities and funny antics. Thanks for your work!
I've been adopted by a feral boy, just arrived at my door 3 months ago, I have bought him, a state of the art cat box, 3 huge cat , soft cat blankets, and he gets better fed than I do, the reward ? Hearing that Purr, no amount of money could equal that feeling.
In fact the part I hate most about this video is when she was hurting the little fur ball. Wait...she did hurt him right? No? All she did was something he didn't particularly like then feed him afterwards. Chill the fuck out.
One of my cat's favorite things to do is get your finger. If you put your finger between the couch cushions and wiggle it a little he goes nuts. He will literally sit at the edge of the couch looking at you waiting for you to do it. I just wanted to share because I also clip his nails, it would be very hard to play that way since he doesn't always know how to control his claws. He's always inside, he's safe, and it doesn't hurt him in the least. He's a good kitty.
trimming nails is 50 billion times better than declawing them! Declawing them can make them prone to diseases and makes their lives a living hell... So don't get mad about trimming their names... it does grow back. Once the cat learns to calm then the nails can grow back and he will be normal again
I love the way he hisses. I tamed a ferral baby Siamese and then he would come and meow at my door. When I would open the door, he would roll on his back so I would rub his belly. I would also feed him. He stopped coming all of a sudden.
