i enjoyed this lesson so much BECAUSE it wasn't a guy ripping off holds worth licks note for note,..but rather a talented guy approximating his style,....after this i actually got a few things that are my own! great lesson!

@@Chandlerguitar They're very useful. I don't know if Chandler guitar is the name of your channel based on you owning a Chandler guitar or not. I ask, as I just bought a very expensive Ibanez, it's 'very,' complicated and yours sounds great with less constant maintenance. May I ask what axe you're playing. Take care.
@Chandlerguitar
@Chandlerguitar 3 месяца назад
@@allancerf9038 Thanks. The guitar I'm playing in the video is a schecter. It might be different from the ones at your local store though. I got it at the custom shop in Japan. Outside Japan I believe schecter mostly makes metal style guitars, but in Japan they to make a wider variety.

The repeating note in the 5 fret stretch (7:28) is the guitar equivalent of saxophone alternate fingering technique. This is why Allan used it, as it is another technique to sounding more sax-like in his legato lines. The notes are the same but the timbre is slightly different.
@Chandlerguitar
@Chandlerguitar Месяц назад
I agree. It took me a while to figure this out, but I remember I did it once on accident and it sounded like Allan. I thought "Oh that's what he's doing".

I have been listening to Holdsworth since 1977, and this is the BEST explanation of Allan's soloing technique I have ever seen or heard. It should be mentioned that when Allan played with Jean - Luc Ponty, Ponty said that Allan could not read sheet music, he knew where the notes were on the guitar but had no clue to notation. Thank You

Maybe you should have give some voicings on which he plays these scales and phrasing cause i think they are closely linked... Thanks again...tomorrow (it is 23 P.m in Paris...)
