Mumbaikars have an insatiable love for both sweet and spice, akin to their fondness for the fiery thecha. As Holi approaches, sweet shops are bustling with locals stocking up on traditional treats like gujiya, pragiri, and gheeyar for the festivities.
Saajan Tharu, owner of Tharu Sweets in Khar, claims that their pragiri is better than croissants! Well, quite close, we must admit. At Chandru's in Andheri, Updesh, a staff member, mentions that during Holi, their shop is packed with customers buying chandrakala and gheeyar, with queues extending outside onto the footpath.
Mihir Desai, owner of Desai Bhaishankar Gaurishankar P.U Mithaiwala, highlights the popularity of their thandai and colourful rosgulla for the festival.
Clearly, Mumbai has a sweet tooth, and we couldn't help but capture the signature Holi sweets one must try in the city.
