Thanks so much, Dave! That girl has been a total sweetheart her entire life. I was worried that her temperament might change after her latest molt (she's been out in the open MUCH more), but she's still very calm and laid back. :)
I thoroughly enjoyed this feeding video, you always explain things so well and you know the habits of your T’s which makes it very interesting. I get really tickled when you say the names so many different ways-it’s great.
Thank you so much! The names thing has become a bit of a joke over the years, as I get SO MANY different pronunciations for them! haha Thanks again...and Happy New Year!
Happy holidays! I am living in a dorm right now with a no-pet policy (which I would happily ignore if we didn't have apartment inspections), so I am living vicariously through your collection!
@@TomsBigSpiders I am hoping to! There's a neat pet shop in Tokyo (Taito City, specifically) that does almost nothing but tarantulas. If I get an apartment, I'll likely be getting at least one.
That P murinus is stunning! What a sweetie! And I think you have a point about keeping them in an enclosure with depth to it. I think that can apply to most terrestrial/semi-arborial species that web heavily. My 5" female GBB was an absolute demon until I rehoused her in a large and deep critter keeper so I'm not peeling off her webbing every time I open her up. She's calmed down immensely since. And I love feeding videos. Even if they don't eat, just getting to see some of your collection while you talk about them is definitely enough to keep me watching.
Hi, Cryssa! She is such an awesome spider. I have to get more and see if they are are laid back. haha And, YES...it seems to be the same for the GBB! The one I have set up semi-arboreally is much more calm than the one I have set up more terrestrially (she'll be getting a new enclosure soon). And thanks so much...I don't do a lot of them, but Billie and I have a ton of fun shooting them. haha
I like the fact you don't make many feeding videos. It makes the ones you make a really nice treat. Feeding my slings relaxes me. Except the OBT...He stresses me lol
Hi, Paul! Yeah, I figure that enough people do then, and they are honestly a hassle when I'm trying to feed 200+ tarantulas. lol Still, they are fun every once in a while. :) Yeah, mine used to stress me out, too. lol Thanks!
Wow! You may have convinced me to add a Nhandu Tripepii to the collection. Love that golden retriever look. If I do get one, I'd have to name it after my late golden.
i was smiling throughout the whole video and didn't even realize it was 20 min until i finished watching. your reactions to spiders who refuse / hesitate to eat are seriously hilarious! thank you for your work, and happy holidays!
Awesome video and some really beautiful tarantulas. I should be getting started in January! I can't wait, will be like a late Christmas gift for myself.
Beautiful T. blondi, Tom. Genghis 'M', my T. stirmi, has excavated a long tunnel with the main living quarters beneath her water bowl. She's been hanging out there for months now. I can remove the water bowl and see her, but she startles and stridulates. Months ago she would come out and explore when she was hungry. Now she's in a resting period and wouldn't take a roach I put in her burrow, but when I returned the next day she was eating it. Such an impressive tarantula. Hahahaha! Gawd, the dog interference! For me it is hair. I sweep and ten minutes later I have another dog on the floor. Then, of course, the licking, toenails on hardwood, and the head shaking the jangling tags on the collar. Finally just removed my big guy's collar cause it was too much. Dawgs. Dags. LOL.
Hey, Shanti! Happy New Year! Thank you so much. Man, your T. stirmi sounds like trip! They really are amazing tarantulas. They grow SO quickly, and get SO big! :) HAHAHAHA! The dog interference never ends! I had one fart in the background of a podcast, and I didn't hear it. People thought that it was me! haha Yeah, we take their collars off, too. I just can't take the sudden shaking in the background. haha Gotta love them! :)
BiG T I've never taken the time to comment before but thank you so much the vids are the bomb been watching for 2 yrs now and up to 30 tarantula take care happy holidays looking foward to next yr
Hello, Black Fangs! Well, thank you so much for watching and for taking the time to comment! I hope that you and your family have a great holiday as well!
Tom thank you so much for what you do I really appreciate that you put your animals well being before the quality of the video watching you had been making seriously consider getting into the hobby I'm not sure where to start but I'll be sure to do my research before taking the plunge. Again thank you
Hello, Cassandra! First off, my apologies for the ridiculously late reply! And thank you so much for "getting" what I do. I truly appreciate that. If you do get back in, make sure you let me know what you start with!
Great feeding vid!! Definitely putting the Auratus and Dominican Violet on my list. I’ve been looking for a Tripepii. I’ve always loved them. The pinkish peach fuzzy hair is jus beautiful. Loved all the T’s. All were jus beautiful. Thanks for the feeding vid. Hope y’all have a wonderful Christmas 🎄🎁
Hello, Rachelle! Thanks so much! Hopefully, my Dominican violets will molt soon, as their colors are insane right after a molt. I want to hug that N. tripeppi...she is so darned adorable. Thanks again, and I hope you and yours have an awesome Christmas as well! :)
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to Tom and his family, best wishes. Thanks for all the cool and educational videos. I've learned everything I needed from you to finally get my first T. I also suffered from extreme arachnophobia but now I love T's and my new T. albopilosum, thanks for everything from an old guy. PS. My T and more I'll be getting will out live me.
And I hope that you had a Merry Christmas as well (and that you have an awesome New Year!). Thank you so much! I'm sure you probably know, but I was an arachnophobe before I got into the hobby. I totally get it!
Superb quality as always Tom. I look forward to all your videos as both your narration and editing is always spot on. Happy holidays to you and your family Tom and have a great new year.
My Phormictopus sp Dominican Violet sling molted on christmas eve. It put on so mutch size it didnt look like it could have come out of that tiny molt! Also, very nice N. Tripepii, she is so calm. Mine is a bolty hair kicker.
Congrats on the molt! YES! That's what first attracted me to this genus. With Phormictopus, there is one molt in particular when they go from being a sling to looking like an adult. It's amazing! I love that fluffy little tripepii. haha
oh gosh some of your Phormictopi are so pretty...I have a auratus and cancerides theyre juvenile/sub adult kindve size and starting to be properly shiny and metalliccy such nice spiders
I think Phormictopus has some of the prettiest spiders out there. :) I found that my P. cancerides all went through a lot of cool color changes as they grew. Happy Holidays!
Thank you so much, Marc! I don't do many of these, but I figured that it would be fun with the holidays. :) And a Merry Christmas and New Year to you and your family as well! Thank you!
Hi Tom, love love love your videos. I always watch them before I get a new spidey. I have a request for you: will you please do a video that deals with all of your equipment? I know you've addressed this stuff sort of hodge podge, but I could use some clarification and guidance and constantly see people asking about this same stuff: - enclosures - what are the best (in your opinion) enclosures that you use that WERE NOT made to home animals/spiders? You have so many in the videos behind you. I'd really love to know the different brands/kinds you use, why you pick them for different species, and even links to amazon or wherever would be just amazing (and you could profit a little bit from the links!). How do you prep them? Do you put ventilation holes in a certain position or use more or less for different kinds of spiders? The difference between arboreal and terrestrial would be great to explore. I really liked how in this vid you talked about using a deeper bin with a semi arboreal set up for your OBT. That's the kind of tips I and others would love. FAKE PLANTS & DECOR: When do you decide to put in fake plants? When do you decide to leave things bare, and why? Any tips for cheaper ways to decorate the enclosures? Hides, etc? SUBSTRATE: This one is huge and is constantly talked about. Something that I'm always confused about is the types of soil that people use; people say "vermiculite" and "peat", but never show the bags or say where they got it, or things to pay attention to/avoid, so I'm not confident enough to use it yet, afraid I'll use the wrong kind or something. I would like to expand my substrate choices as currently I just use cocoa fibre across the board, but I've never found a guide or video that went deep enough into the details, really spelling things out (I think more people than you'd think could use a "for dummies" guide on this). How do you decide which kinds of substrates to mix together and why? **WHEN YOU GOT TAINTED SUBSTRATE - what kind was it? Where did you get it? Is there anything you took away from that experience that informs how you decide on substrate today? Again, any links you could share for this would be amazing! Would you consider doing a video like this? Thanks so much Tom, happy new year!!!
Hello! Yes, I absolutely can! I actually started on an enclosure one a few months ago (I want to take people from really cheap ones to the more expensive ones). I can cover the vent holes (and how I put them in as well). You've also brought up some other awesome topics that I can definitely cover as well. It might have to be a few videos, as it will be a lot of info to cover. Thanks so much for the suggestions! Happy New Year !
Hope you and Billie had a great Christmas Tom! I think my Tilitocatl Vagans might be a girl so that was a nice Christmas surprise it’s only about 5cm but it’s moulted twice in the three months I’ve had it🙌🏾 thanks to your tips I think I’m doing well 👍🏾 great to see some feeding Zia’s a Christmas surprise 🤩
Thank you so much, Queen SeezaGB! I hope that you and yours had a great Christmas as well! And that's awesome! That is such a pretty species! :) Thanks again...and Happy New Year!
Merry Xmas brother. Ppl can say what they want. The obt POPS. They still blow my mind. Can't wait for my slings to grow. I has no idea the P.A looked so much like a chicken spider. I always thought they looked more like a G. pulchra. Thx for the feeding video. Also the knowledge. Always good to know spider anatomy like femur, carapace, and penis fingers 🙏 Thought you'd like that 🤣🤣🤣
Hahahahaha! I hope you had a Merry Christmas, bud! I LOVE that OBT. She's now out all of the time, and still calm as can be. Yeah, I'm still trying to figure out the whole "chicken spider" thing. I believe that they exist, but who know which species it really is. HAHAHA! I was getting punchy at that point. lol
@@TomsBigSpiders love it 🤣🤣🤣. Same 2 u my friend. I didn't get a chance when I was home to, but I think I'm gonna order my T's some caterpillars or something for Xmas. Some of my T's only want crickets or meal worms but it's worth a shot. I'm a reptile guy (was 🤣) but wanted to ask if u ever tried to feed ur aboreal T's anole's? I ordered some last yr and my avic avic loved them. I don't feed big prey often but if u find a seller that had smaller anole's or feeder geckos it's pretty amazing watching them hunt down prey that size. U can tell it's what they'll eat in the wild. My avic never seen a lizard and she was on it like lightning. Especially living around things like bromeliads they gotta encounter them in the wild. Idk, just wanted to hear ur thoughts about it. I refuse to feed my big pedes or T's mice. I've seen videos and it's just not for me.
I laughed so hard when you said you did that thing with the blowing stuff around. I DO THAT all the time, but I am way older than you, probably a little forgetful and have done things like that all my life. Now you know why I do not keep one of these gorgeous creatures. I never want to hurt one. What if I put the worm in my cup and the cream for my coffee in the spider house. Have a blessed week and in case I don't see you before then HAPPY NEW YEAR. To Billie also. She is the best part of you.
Hey, Joyce! Hahahahaha. It was EVERYWHERE! I'm always a bit distracted, so I do silly stuff like this all of the time. One time, I almost sipped out of a cup that I was putting boluses in instead of my actually drink because I wasn't paying attention. That would have been nasty. haha Happy Holidays to you and yours as well, Joyce! :)
with your help, im gonna get a b. boehmei, b. albiceps, and g. iheringi to my collection. i have 4 at the moment. My dream spider would be a t. stirmi once i get more experience. love your blog and videos :)
Tom Moran video upload notifications are amazing but Tom Moran feeding video upload notifications is one of the best early Christmas presents😁🙌 Merry Christmas Tom, hope you & the family & all the animals have a great time & enjoy yourselves☺️ Love from the UK 👊
@@FJR_Exotics I really need to do more, as people really enjoy them, and it gives me a chance to talk about a bunch of different spiders! And thanks again!
Tom.....weiner fingers?????🤣🤣🤣🤣 I had to go back three times, put my ear piece in and go back again to make sure I heard you right, lmbo. But you have some gorgeous T's. I didn't see one I didn't absolutely love. Merry Christmas to you and your family!!!! Tyfs God bless you
I get totally punchy during these feeding videos...so sorry! hahaha Thank you so much! I hope that you and yours have an awesome Christmas as well. Thank you, Debbie!
Another great video, Tom! Thank you for this lovely Christmas present to all of us tarantula enthusiasts. I may not comment often, but I always enjoy your videos. You have such a great collection of stunning spiders and I love your passion for the hobby. :) And props to Billie, always so brave with the camera work! Wishing you and your family (and all of your little fur-babies) a very merry holiday season and a wonderful new year! :)
Hello, Marit! Thank you so much for the very kind words! :) And, yes...Billie has been amazing with the camera! I couldn't do this without her! And a Happy Holiday to you and yours as well! :) Thanks again!
Very cool man! Thank you so much for this feeding video and I can't wait to see the next husbandry video. Merry Christmas and 7 to 9 inches is still too close for an OBT LOL (good thing your OBT is so "relaxed")
HI, Dusty! The next husbandry video is done and should be up soon. A Merry Christmas to you as well! HAHAHA. Nahhhh...this girl is a sweetheart (well, until she decides that she's going to be a demon. lol).
Another good one , great close up Billie, I love the way he gets all nervous 😬 thanks guys happy holidays and cheers to a new year filled with many more subscribers!!!
Great feeding video Tom, your P. Murinus is absolutely stunning! Did you say your B. Boehmei is called Lazarus? I have a t called Lazarus 😂 Wishing you, Billie and your family an awesome Christmas and a fantastic new year.
Hello, Tink! I LOVE that little lady. I was so glad that we were finally able to catch her hunting. Yes, I do! hahaha She survived a horrible shipping situation in which we originally thought her to be dead. Not a very "girly" name, but it fits her! I hope that you and yours have a awesome Christmas as well! Thank you!!!
Absolutely stunning collection. I don't have any phormictopus tarantulas, but after seeing yours, I think I need to get some. I have never seen a video properly show the color of the N. tripepii. They have to be seen in real life to truly be appreciated. I have a 6 inch male and he needs a girlfriend and I can't find any on the market! Happy Holidays from Full Metal Arachnids!
Hey, bud! Yeah, you definitely have to remedy that Phormictopus situation! hahaha. They are amazing spiders. And so true...you have to see them in person to really take it all in. Happy Holidays, bud!
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you as well, John...thank you! And I have a new Featured Species video done, but I have to wait a bit to post it (it involves the slings I produced... :) ). I will be shooting a few more videos this week, so expect one before the end of the year. Thanks again!
Great video Tom. I've had an eye on the Brachypelma boehmei for a while now, this video just confirmed it for me that it must be on my next order. Just don't tell my wife lol. PS. I also love the OBT, but my first turned out to be a confirmed male :(
Very nice, such beautiful footage! No joke if you get a sac of dominican violets, put me down for at least 5, PUH-LEEEASE! I've been looking everywhere for em since i saw yours, i missed one opportunity to get some and cant stop kicking myself :(
I've been told the Nhandu Tripepii aren't the biggest fans of bright light. That could explain why yours would go all "BRIGHT LIGHT! BRIGHT LIGHT!" mogwai on you. Or "Wackadoo" as you call it.
Hi, Zachary! Yeah, most tarantulas aren't fans of bright lights unfortunately. With this one, she often runs up to the edge of the enclosure when I open it like she's expecting something. Usually the ones I have that are photosenstive will immediately run to their burrows. My girl will instead wander around. Love the mogwai reference!
You got a nice orange bitey thing lolol xD such a rare thing to see (joking kinda) but I see what you mean tho i still don't want one. I think the M. Balfori will be my only if not first and few old worlds xD
