I'm disappointed that the 5th season was only one episode..not to mention it's only 6 groups..I think singing competitions are on their way out seeing as AI is only once a week now too. But this one was the best out of all of them :(.. unfortunately the opening performance wasn't as great as past seasons but i guess they had to make do with this considering it's all done in one episode...it was still okay, just not the best when they had 10 groups before. I do miss Ben Folds though...

A one-off sing-off is better than no sing-off. Opening number is very fitting, there's no token oldies group this year. I'll miss Ben too. The official reason for his absence is he's on tour. Guess he couldn't get off one night to judge.

The official reason might be because he's on tour, but the real reason is he probably didn't get the contract cuz people thought he was a boring judge. RIP quality

I think making it one night was BECAUSE Ben couldn’t judge, not the other way around, if the info I read was actually correct! Plus, even if it was only 1 night from the beginning, that doesn’t mean that Ben could have come! I don’t know where he was on the globe the night this was taped, but some flights ARE almost a day long from certain places, with refueling done in the air, so I’m told. I’ve never been on one more than a few hours and then transferred to another one for a few hours, but even that took the majority of a day with having to be there so much before to board, layover times are ridic sometimes, and then you lose or gain time, depending on which way you are flying! Even if they had their own jet or plane, ONLY Ben was judging, NOT the “Five” so he couldn’t have taken it!

@@Klipik12 but he was FAR from boring! I found him amusing and my source for ridiculously long words as I use long words too, but definitely NOT to the extent he does teeheehee! But as much as I liked him as a person, I still don’t agree that he can sing, or at least in any way that I can stand! Piano, yes please, but leave the vocals alone, I beg you!

This is almost heartbreaking to watch :( I can understand why Ben didn't come back to judge - I feel this was kind of his brainchild in a way.

It wasn't a season, just a one-night special, thus the smaller field. The teams performed, the field got cut in half, those three performed one more song, then a champ was crowned.
