Even in Rate 20, it looks that the boat runs just like in Rate 30 ! The Exit never stop the boat, because the blades does not loose powers at exit point. Beutifull !

from what i see its takes the right mix of people to make an 8 work not just the big strong guys you need pieces. In the single scull you get freaks that and physically gifted and row in a very unique style. In an 8 you need to blend and thats why i think you dont see as many crazy ergs scores coming from bigger boats.

@JernauGurgeh1 Well, that was a clear answer! Thanks! So for a beginner 6:45 issn't that bad afterall. I haven't got any water experience. I just train on an ergometer for fun. Are the seconds as valuable in a 2000 as a second in 2000m running? (What I mean is, that i am asking if the time is relatively hard to break) are you a rower?

@RemixBrian Yes, I am a rower :) Well, seconds in rowing over 2000m are always valuable but what you really need to move a boat quickly is good technique combined with good power. I'll put it to you like this, as you said you've done triathlons previously you're most likely in pretty good shape so the most important thing is learning to row well while maintaining good fitness. There is no point is having incredibly quick time on the erg is you can't apply it into a boat :)

I'm also a rower, I went to the world champs in poznan 09 in the LM4-. We finished above in the C final and just missed out at the semi's. Our erg times where 6.18, 6.20 ant twice 6.27! an erg score is a good indication but it doesn't say anything. That year the Germans became world champions and they did 6.20 average

@RemixBrian Lightweight rowers are very good don't let anyone tell you otherwise. The main reason why people talk about heavyweight all the time is that there isn't as much depth in lightweight rowing, fewer people are doing it. 6:45 is alright for a lightweight, just to give you an idea the GB U23 minimum standard for lightweight trialists is 6:43. However you won't get anywhere in the elite level without something in the mid-to-low 6:10's. U23 level you're looking at around a 6:20 as a lighty

are lightweight rowers per definition nothing in comperison to the heavyweights? I always see heavyweight this heavyweight that. I never hear something about lightweights. I have ergo pb's of 6:45's and I am weighing 71,5kg with about 183cm I am not really experienced, but I have experience with triathlon as a endurance sport.

I know you don't need it- but there's a strong correlation. You can always find crews that aren't good on ergos but still move quickly, but these are exceptions to the rule don't you think? You'd be better to bet on the stronger crew most of the time.
@a4format
@a4format 15 лет назад
fantastic in my book too :D my crew was 5:59 to 6:15, and we still managed to achieve 5:35

Yeah, sure they were pulling 6:08/9. Drew was under 6 in the first erg trial of the year in 2008. I was sitting about two metres from him when he did it. If you read his blog, Drew did a low 5:50 later in the year. He actually was quicker than Duncan in that test, though Drewy nearly hospitalised himself, and Duncs was barely breathing. Your 'mates' at the AIS are pretty impressive. They got you to believe that crap...

smaller boat rowers have slower erg times? thats bullshit. Rob Waddell 5:36, Synek 5:41, Mahe 5:41, Hamish Bond 5:45, Eric Murray 5:41. Pretty sure small boat crewsn have better ergs on the whole
@tikkywikky
@tikkywikky 13 лет назад
@novicerower2010 Some of them are but thats their posture and if they row best that way why would you want to change it? You want to sit in the boat in a natural way with a strong core, not with tension on your upper back.
@NAXE5
@NAXE5 13 лет назад
You need better ergs to win the small boats, the standard per person is higher for the smaller boats. GER M8+ strongest guy is 5:51 NZL M2- pull 5:44 and 5:48 Ondrey Synek pulls 5:41 for 2K and 18:11 for 6K.
@lachiemckenzie
@lachiemckenzie 15 лет назад
Well, actually Drew is not pulling anything at the moment, and I seriously doubt your claim. They are much better than that- don't know where you heard those figures- but of course smaller boat rowers generally have slower times than big boat rowers.
@abraskacollinlewis
@abraskacollinlewis 14 лет назад
@a4format michal horvath is pulling 5:53. other guys are around 6:02
@lachiemckenzie
@lachiemckenzie 12 лет назад
Yeah it depends where they put their strongest crews. NZ goes for the win in the sculls, but with the other countries going for the win in the 8 they stack it up. Look, you'd have to do a study to prove it either way. It's just what I've observed - smaller boats usually have lankier people in them that don't have as good ergo times. But they are better at technique and their bodies more suited. I could list ergo times below 5:45 of a lot of 8 rowers.
@AxelPRC
@AxelPRC 12 лет назад
true it does depend where you put your top rowers but your wrong about small boat crews having slower ergs. If i took the top 8 single scullers erg times in the world and compared it to the top 8 8+ rowers in the world the single scullers would have better ergs. Mahe 5:41, Synek 5:41, Tufte 5:44, Alan Campbell 5:50 and those are just the ones i know. I know of some 8+ rowers being in the 5:40's but not as low as these guys.

But look at the Americans and you can see why they beat them. Watching this 8 makes me think if they can get bigger, they'd win because they don't waste any energy. More skillful than the US 8 but not as strong. You need an erg average in the 5 40s nowadays to have a good chance.

i wouldn't agree with you, just take a look at the slovenian or czech coxless four.. i don't believe any of their rowers is capable of achieving time under 6:00. take a look a the b seniors world champions, greek men's pair. they're small, but they're dynamtie!
