Wat een verbijsterend goed idee om contrapunctus 12a en 12b elk op een andere wijze te 'bestrijken'. Het pizzicato bij 12b klinkt heel apart en zelfs bevreemdend, maar dat is net goed (die Kunst der Fuge is nu eenmaal nauwelijks van deze wereld...). Dank voor deze uitvoering. Hopelijk bezoeken jullie na Corona ook de concertzalen van jullie zuiderburen! Groeten uit België.

Exquisite, as ever. Please don't miss Tineke and Judith with their luminous companions in the Brabant 1653 album of neglected motets, centred on Boxmeer. Heart-opening music from a beautiful part of the world, with such a rich culture. I was blessed some years ago to be welcomed by mayor Karl van Soest and his dear family, only to discover a whole corner of the world whose culture and people are as precious and they are "unknown." Bless Tineke and Judith for allowing us to time travel at the touch of a harpsichord and the stroke of a bow. "Barok is nu" indeed!

En wat een parelketting! En ook die verrassende pizzicati! Voor de hoeveelste keer luister ik nu naar jullie uitvoering? Tiende keer? Het zou zomaar kunnen!

Since Bach composed the Art of Fugue for keyboard rather than string quartet, it's not surprising that most of the contrapuncti have middle voices that go below the normal range of the violin and viola. E.g., in #1 the 2nd voice goes a whole step below violin's G string; in #2 the 2nd voice goes a whole step below the violin's G string and the 3rd voice goes a minor 3rd below the viola's C string; and in #8 the middle voice goes a half step below the viola's C string. The performers must have tuned their lowest strings down to accommodate those low notes. Being keyboard fugues, some of the 4-part contrapuntci add extra voices near the end, as is common in keyboard fugues (e.g., #5, #6, #7, #9), which is probably the main reason the keyboard is added.

Great job, but my favourite 4th fugue is missing.

Prachtig gespeeld, hemelse muziek van alleen maar noten. Nergens staat hoe het echt moet. Ha! : Holland Baroque ! 🙃 Wanneer gaan jullie dit opnemen in een minder respectvolle maar meer Swingende, 'Jazzy Way'? Meer verschillende tempi misschien in een stuk met dezelfde instrumenten of afgewisseld een onsje meer? 🙂 Afgewisseld met zeer respectvolle zang èn dans?

Pour les instrumentistes à cordes ,c'est l'orchestration minimaliste idéale .
