I never thought i would be into rabbits. And I'm doing great! My rabbits always get good placing in show. And I'm just now starting to breed. You have been such a great help with all my questions.thank you!

I know these comments are a bit annoying, but I really think the rabbits cages are too small. I know that it's not realistic to give them giant cages, but I think a 2 by 4 cage is more than doable. Also, please consider giving them a slab of wood so they can rest their feet. Also, all the rabbits are beautiful and they are look super healthy!
@bubbleteaproductions15
@bubbleteaproductions15 7 лет назад
Sahana K From a breeder' s perspective, yes these ignorant comments are very annoying. I'm saying this as someone's whose rabbits won't use resting pads no matter what I do, some rabbits won't use the resting pads and the wire doesn't hurt them or cause sore hocks if the rabbits are being cared for and checked correctly. I've seen and heard of way more cases of sore hocks on wood than wire or any other surface. As most rabbits ( for example mine) that are in cages that size get playtime outside of the cage, those cages are completly fine. Please do more research before commenting in the future.
@sahanak5041
@sahanak5041 7 лет назад
LPS Riley thanks but my comment wasn't ignorant and I have done my research. Before you comment, please don't attack the person. You can disagree with what they say or do but online, you really don't know anything about the person Firstly, I never said wire caused sore hocks and really the surface doesn't have anything to do with it. It's about the way the weight it distributed when they jump and about how wood (or wire) doesn't absorb. The reason you have probably heard more sore hocks from wood is rabbits that are in wooden cages are usually larger and have room to hop so have a greater chance of sore hocks. Also, she did say her rabbits get playtime every few days. Also, with large breeders, it's really hard to give rabbits consistent play time. You can't let the males and females interact. You usually can't even let the males interact because a lot of them are so hormonal cuz they can smell the females. The females may do fine together but not all, so you have to give separate playtime to each rabbit which is very difficult. It would be impossible for all the rabbits to get any more than 15 minutes of playtime a week, which is less than sufficient. Also, I didn't demand a really large cage or anything. A 2 by 4 cage is doable! As for the testing pads, yes the rabbits may not use them or prefer them, but they are still great to have as an option. And yes, I do know this is a business and that most of these rabbits don't live here forever and most will be adopted out when they get older, but I wanted to give my perspective. I also did comment on how healthy her rabbits look

All that matters is... Do the rabbits look happy? They look very happy and im sure they dont ,mind the size cages they have now and wire is not an issue with holland lops.

Just to point it out to the people that are saying that wire floors for rabbits is cruel your wrong. Breeds with thick fluffy feet such as Holland lops, can have wire floor and they can’t feel it. Yes I do agree with giving them something to rest on but some rabbits chew and eat theirs and there is nothing you can really do. I haven’t seen anything about her rabbits having sore hocks and she’s had those cages for years. If your a breeder you can’t have massive pens for each rabbit as that would take up a lot of room and it’s not to ideal. They look very healthy and well looked after.

Also if the does and the bucks are able to see each other they will get stressed out and want to breed. (which is a good thing sometimes) But it is not a good thing if it is on a regular basis, especially when the buck sees the kits.

The animal community is literally so judgmental. I really hate it. I think the way you keep your rabbits is fine. These people know nothing about you and just jump on your case. They probably don't even watch your channel, they just saw this one video and are so quick to call you a bad rabbit owner, when they themselves don't use proper grammar or punctuation as they're judging you. That to me is very hypocritical. How can you come on here and judge someone and not even put any periods in your post anywhere??? It's super annoying, and makes me believe that they obviously don't know anything about anything. If you come on here and call someone a bad person, it just makes you look bad. This woman didn't ask for advice, so don't give her any. Her rabbits are healthy and happy. And for god's sake do everyone a favor and read your post before you publish it. It makes you look immature and imbecilic when you spell words wrong and don't use proper grammar or punctuation.
@rewalpuski
@rewalpuski 4 года назад
Uhm. Define 'happy'. It has been proven by research that can be checked on every major rescue bun website and organisation in the US, UK Germany and Australia that big enclosures that are at least triple the size of those cages are a basic need of every bunny. I won't even talk about the wired floor. A little hint. If your breeding space looks more like a meat farm somethings wrong.

Don't listen to any of these negative comments. Wire has been proven to be better for rabbits BECAUSE it holds less bacteria, and keeps the rabbit clean. Keeping them on plastic or wood is just asking for diseases and urine/hutch burn. I use wire, sue me. The cages are not too small. Rabbits should not be given super big cages because they will hurt themselves if they get spooked. Most of the people commenting for you to change have not owned show rabbits. I can tell you, you are doing a great job! These people should focus on stopping ACTUAL animal abuse, and not just something they do not agree with. Much bunny love :)

The little girls ears are barely lopped and I know her niece is going to beat her in the show this weekend ( to be fair the other solid junior doe I have is older and her father is my best show buck with around 15 legs, I can't remember the exact number). I'm going to breed him to a couple of my does and hope to get more oranges.

As long as the wire is half inch by half inch to half inch by 1 inch squares it's perfectly safe for the rabbits, if it were any bigger then it would cause problems with the animals feet. But I do think the cages could be a little bigger, the Ideal size would be 36"Wx30"Dx18"H for maximum comfort especially when you have so many in one cage. :)

These pore bunnies are all crammed together. I am proof that you can have rabbits in at LEAST twice the size of cages that you have, make a living, AND have happy healthy bunnies. Also would you consider giving these bunnies a rug to lay on. The wire mesh will ruin there hocks, break there nails(which causes bleeding), and can cause infection to open wounds on hocks. PLEASE DO SOMETHING!!!!! It is SOOOOOOOOOOO sad to see these pore bunnies being treated like this. Bunnies need personal time alone to relive stress and calm down. Also would you give your rabbits more wood toys to chew on. Maybe some salt or mineral blocks to. Just wanted to point out that when a doe is living with her bunnies the doe needs an area to call her own. Whether that's on the top of the nesting box, a second level, or an open grassy area. If the mother is not the tamest or the calmest the doe can take their stress out on the kits. they might bite or hurt their kits. I dont have anything agenst you personally but just want to make sure these things are adressed. I love most of your advice and your bunnies. I just want the best for you and your bunnies. Thanks, Rhema Johnson

You should have water BOWL the bottles make it hard for them to drink. PLEASE get OFF wire floors it is super bad for your rabbits paws. They need TOYS they love to play. They also need bigger cages either free roamed (I know you have a lot of rabbits you prob won’t do that no worries) or give them a play pen to live in rabbits are very active animals. And make sure you give the babies alfalfa and the adults Timothy. I am not trying to bring you down. And it seems like you have a good relationship with your rabbits which is great but please listen to my advice. For more advice subscribe to Lennon the Bunny 🐰.!🤗

Flame Nightingale190 first of all no it’s not okay it damages their feet and gives them sore Hocks and maybe if you actually didn’t keep rabbits in little cages they wouldn’t be sitting in their own shit. Keeping them in an open room with litter boxes would be way better. How would you like it if you lived your life on a wire floor and got blisters because of it. Also they can’t get enough water at a time with those water bottles. Honestly do your research. Maybe ask a certified vet what you should be doing. If you can’t afford good care for your rabbits then don’t own so many rabbits.
@FlamepeltofThunder
@FlamepeltofThunder 6 лет назад
I go to my vet every 6 months and she fully supports my way of doing things, my bunny is happy and healthy, water bottles are fine and for long haired angora breeds are required because croocks get them soaking wet. I understand what your concern is bit your useing outdated information.

@2448redbird

Actually with rabbits its far worse for them to hop around and possibly get their feed soaked, and they do pee a lot. Once wet. their feet won't dry out fast enough to keep their skin healthy. So wire is best but they need ceramic tiles or plastic mats made for this. Rabbits are now domesticated and made by man to have more hair than rabbits in the wild have. They need care geared for this, so no wire is not bad for rabbits at all as long as you keep an eye on them.

ITs obvious you know very little about raising rabbits. If you know so much go rescue some. These rabbits are im a bright clean airy barn, safe from preditors and in cages probably larger than the FDA requires. You need to take a chill. Wild rabbits have their kits in burrows half this size.
@MeekaChannel
@MeekaChannel 6 лет назад
2448redbird you obviously know nothing. Maybe you should talk to a rabbit vet and ask them what they need or even just research it online. Also bunnies only stay in their tiny nests for a very short time. These bunnies are at youngest a few months old. They need more exercise. I just hope she lets them out to run and play.

Ok first off, those cages are WAY to small for a rabbit. And second, they can get sick fron staying in tiny places like that. And third, your best bet is to just free roam them in there, or get an x pen and then seperate them however you want. Hopefully you didn't take any affence by this comment. Because if you did, I didn't mean any harm to your feelings.

Holly, I love your account!! I've always wanted to get a shed and start a small breeding place. What kind of shed do you have, and did you build it or buy it already made? Also what's the best kind of stacked cages would you recommend? Also if you have a lot of rabbits like you, would you recommend urine/poop pull out trays or trying to litter train!?!?

+Eddies Rabbits I bought a shed from Lowe's and had guys come out and install it. I do not recommend Lowe's as a place to get the she'd because they did a poor job and their customer service was terrible. I use Woody's Wabbits and Bass Supply cages but the WW are my favorite. Pull out trays are easiest but it depends on your preference!

Rabbits should have at least 44 sq feet of floor space, these cages are way too small. Wire cages are also very bad for their feet no matter what breed. Holland lops are no different. Please consider changing to bigger cages at least the size and floor type of Hooks Hollands. I know breeders find it hard to house their animals properly but it really should not be an excuse. I breed guinea pigs and ours are kept in large and solid bottomed cages as well as the males free ranged in a room.they have lots of toys which you don't provide either. they have the best quality pellets and hay aswell as LOTS of veggies and LOTS of hay. You should down size your herd, upgrade your housing. add toys and boredom breakers, feed more veggies and stop showing as it spreads diseases in your rabbits. Please think of your rabbits and not what is easiest for you. Thank you

Wild With Roxi I've talked with my vet and she was very clear that wire floor cages are perfectly fine, she recommended it because she gets so many cases of sore hawks from solid floor cages. Also holly has stated before that she is freinds with Dianne from hooks Holland lops, and Dianne agrees with and supports hollys way of running her rabbitry. Her rabbits get dayly outside run time so they aren't in those cages 24/7.

oh my gosh.. ok i love rabbits, ihave one of my own and she has a huge cage that is 9sq feet bottom floor and 3sq feet top floor, not to mention i leave it open all the time becasue they need energy. Your rabbits need aflat bottom cage, those wire cage bottoms will cause sores and they are painful for them. They also need more room!!! Also you line breed?!? That is not ok.. that can cause disfomation in the litter. And you said some of them were to big for show so youll use them to breed? Do they lay there all day on a wire cage till you take them out to put them with the opposite sex to create offspring? Im astonished by this, a rabbit lover should never want to do these things to rabbits.
