The best part of hollow knight is there's no right way to play it. You just jump in, immerse yourself in the world, and explore wherever you see fit. Perfect for streaming

Agreed its possibly the most immersing modern metroidvania i have ever played, only on par in terms of immersion with the original. Super Metroid on the snes, best of the franchise. The one that made the genre be as it is today pretty much. That's very high praise in my book and I don't say it lightly, I have played way too many games in the genre.

Usually the phrase is "there is no wrong way to play it", since "no right way" implies all ways are wrong.

Recently played this and it's become one of my favorite games, definitely play it. I've had to stop a few times while exploring the game just to listen to the music, it's fucking beautiful. Even though it's a 2D platformer, I don't think I've ever been more awestruck by a game's world as much as I have in Hollow Knight, and the music plays a HUGE part in it. And as it's been said, the game is pretty hard. Not like, masochist levels, but do expect to die to every boss a few times before beating them. It's REALLY fun though, and very satisfying when you finally beat a boss you were having trouble with.

I'll put it this way: After beating Hollow Knight, I actually wished Team Cherry had charged me more for it lol. Along with FF7 and FF9, Hollow Knight is on my short list of truly special games that I will always go back to.

Hollow Knight is just.. one of those games that absolutely stun you, in every way possible. The combat is fun, just hard enough to be challenging, yet so rewarding. The art style is so charming, each area is uniquely distinct, down to its very color scheme. To me, it’s on par with Undertale, and I don’t say that lightly. Highly recommend a play through!

As a huge indie game fan, its funny to me how I hear that kind of praise for undertale from some people putting it at the same sentence as hollow knight, when at the same time I have hollow knight at a personal 110/100 rating (I can't rate it high enough in simply all aspects), while undertale was simply not good enough for me to not drop it. I played it for 2 hours or something it just felt bland. Dropped. Simply didn't do it for me, not my cup of tea. Sad beans. Will never understand its hype. It is what it is I guess.

Hollow Knight is one of my favorite games, period. It’s a 2D metroidvania with a large focus on combat in addition to platforming. A playthrough could take anywhere from 20-30 hours on the short end to 50+, depending on a lot of factors (there’s a ton of stuff that isn’t required, but worth doing anyway). My original 100% playthrough clocked in at over 60 hours, even. The one reason I might not recommend it is because it gets hard. If you’re up for a challenge, then it’s worth it, but it is NOT an easy game, even for people who are very familiar with the genre. I would recommend doing a lot of optional content though because most of it has unique music for the optional bosses (like this song here, being for a hidden boss fight added in an update). Many of the best songs are not part of the main path, partially because the game had so many free updates that added new content and music.

I didn't go FULL completionist, but I did nearly everything and it took about 40 hours. It's pretty huge for a Metroidvania, but it's also the peak of the genre imo. The atmosphere is incredible, from the music and visuals to the melancholy dialogue. The plot is light and vague, comparable to a Dark Souls game. There is an actual story and a lot of lore there, but its delivery is pretty obscure and it's easy to see the credits without understanding much. I'm the type to get easily frustrated by difficulty, but while this game can be very challenging at times I never really got frustrated with it or felt it was being cheap. Bosses were very satisfying to beat.

My pitch for Hollow Knight is this: As someone who isn't sure whether or not I like exploration based games that mich, Hollo Knight hooked me. It's the best Exploration/Discovery/Atmosphere gameplay I have ever experienced. I can only recommend it. Oh, and this song in particular is used for the biggest Meme boss in the game. I am not kidding, the whole boss fight is a joke. Edit: time wise, it's tough to say exactly. A huge chunk of the game is generally optional, but it being a game about exploring and discovering at your own pace means you won't just stumble on the relevant stuff and beat the game real quick. Also depends on how fast you play and how much you die. With that said, a fast, goal oriented playthrough with few deaths will be about 20 hours I'd say, where a generous leisurely playthrough with a big chunk of side content may be closer to 45 hours or so. If you go full completion, that number can easily reach triole digits as you'd have to spend A LOT of time to oractice bosses, as I have had to do. Hope this helps.

Agreed so much with this. I think the only part I somewhat disagree with is the bit about this particular boss fight. Sure the character it’s built around is a joke, and an actual good chunk of the move set is shenanigans. But I can’t call the actual fight a joke in good faith with how difficult it can be, especially once the full move set is in play.

The game is notoriously difficult as you progress, but echoing things you've already heard it's beautifully crafted by a small team, I believe its all hand drawn and as you know the music is haunting. I think people recommend it around Halloween is because its a bit of a post apocolyptic story in its own right. I highly reccommend it, and I hope you get Nightmare King Grimm requested a lot ❤

It took me a good 80hours to finish the game on my first playthrough but I'm not super good at video games to begin with, I assume most people would take on average 40 hours to finish it...? I'm not really unbiased when it comes to this game because it's one of my favs ever but I don't know if anyone who's played it really is unbiased. From what I've seen, everyone who gets into it just falls in love pretty much immediately. It's just a really good game on all aspects (art, music, gameplay, exploration, story and lore, etc). It's one of those games you wish you could just completely forget and replay blind because it's such an experience. If you have the time to try it, I definitely recommend it.

Hollow Knight is amazing. It is my favourite game ever. To your questions: The game's length is very variable, since it is a metroidvania. Your first playthrough can vary quite a lot based on your playstyle and comfort with the game mechanics. I would say between 15 and 30 hours (which is a spacious estimation, I know) are quite certainly in it without any kind of completionist tendencies. I am of course very biased towards it, but I can just say, you should definitely try out this game. It will blow your socks off, even if the game's mechanics itself might not be your specific cup of tea, since you are not one to just run through the lore and ambience, which is sadly something quite a lot of other streamers do.

I don't think hollow knight is too long (15 hours? Maybe a little more?), it is one of my favorite games to watch, but I personally have not finished it, because I am BAD at those types of games. And at the same time I really enjoyed to watch friends or streamer play it over and over, because it is a pretty cool game. I think a friend of mine recently finished it in a few days, even though she had a lot of trouble with the system, BUT fair warning, everyone I watched playing it, did not keep it at a simple playtrough. x,D It is VERY pretty and the music and ambiance is good. I could imagine you having fun with this game.

@SuperRayman001 Год назад
There's literally a speedrun achievement to beat it in under 20 hours, so saying 15 hours is the expected game length is very misleading. I'd say 50 hours is more what to expect if you try to explore most of it in a first run.
@Drew_KaeAskavi
@Drew_KaeAskavi Год назад
@@SuperRayman001 dear, I think I made it clear enough that I haven't played the game myself. If someone is mislead by an answer that is followed by a question mark, then that is not 100% on me. Also wasn't the speedrun archivement 5 hours? Am I that far off???
@SuperRayman001
@SuperRayman001 Год назад
@@Drew_KaeAskavi There is also a 5 hour achievement, there are multiple. The 20 hour one has completion requirements, but that still makes 15 hours too short to call the average runtime. I also know that you specified that, but I still wanted to correct it.

You're right. Asking if people recommend this game is probably a little silly, since obviously 95% of people watching this are fans of the game already. So instead I'll say that even as a big big fan of this game, having seen many people's opinions, talked with friends about it, etc. My impression is the same as the one you have. This game is a HUGE deal. It's probably the most popular indie game of the last 10 years, and for good reason. A masterpiece isn't just what the superfans call it. It's seems to be what everyone calls it. As for the title of the song, it might be a bit surprising. Simply, this is a bossfight against an overly dramatic, self-absorbed joke character, filled with delusions of grandeur. It doesn't really mean anything in particular, it's just supposed to sound like it does. It's a facade. Edit: On second thought, the most popular indie game of the last 10 years is by far and away Among Us, with Five Nights at Freddy's at a close 2nd. Those are in a league of their own in terms of sheer popularity, almost Minecraft-tier, but even then I feel like games like Hollow Knight or Celeste are too well known to really brand as "cult classics", even if that's what you'd kinda assume an indie game to naturally be. oh right... Undertale. That one kinda falls into the same category in my eyes, and is definitely way more popular. Turns out *I'm* the overdramatic one here. Actually, on that note, I'd guess you've heard similar praise regarding Undertale, probably even moreso. They're not too comparable in many ways, but their universal critical acclaim certainly is. I guess what I'm trying get at here is pretty much everyone on the planet thinks Hollow Knight rules.
@kobarsos82
@kobarsos82 Год назад
Did you forget Hades btw? That's the biggest deal, at least in the last 5 years that is. But I agree the indie scene has became insane, with some true masterpieces out there, that also have jaw-breaking OSTs to boot. Also, regardless of the huge praise on undertale I would argue at this point that its also overrated, the game seems to be more popular than it deserves at least compared to the other masterpieces we got in the last years. I would never call it an equally great game as hollow knight, celeste or hades, and never include it on the same sentence either. And I know a few circles of gamers that share this thought so it's not like I'm alone on this. But oh well. Matters little. HK does deserve all the praise though that much is certain, even if its a pretty difficult game for casuals. A hell of an experience.

I've actually listened to the whole Hollow Knight ost. I think the compositions are genuinely on the same level as Classical music. This kind of gives me a fluttering feeling with the instruments behind the main string. That lead string has a melancholy tone to it that's interesting, the brass gives this a triumphant and heroic feeling so this makes me think this is a boss fight. I don't know how this applies to the story or boss, maybe it reflects the main character? I don't know but it's a strong theme for sure. Great song and I like it; I'm usually picky with orchestral songs, this one passes.
@snailshell8552
@snailshell8552 Год назад
the best thing about this music is how it would lead you to believe it is something important to the story, but really it's just an elaborate joke. this boss fight, and I am not exaggerating, is a reflection of a character's idolised fanfiction about a completely pathetic joke character. all of its attacks look like mistakes. there's one where it jumps, misses the floor, and falls back through the roof. you can fight it 10 times, and its intro gains a title every time, culminating with invincible, fearless, sensual, mysterious, enchanting, vigorous, diligent, overwhelming, gorgeous, passionate, terrifying, beautiful, powerful, grey prince zote
