If Johnny has established a false identity, and started working in the bean, for the sole purpose of recruiting Ste to this right wing group, the story is totally without authenticity. Had Ste been radicalized because his new boyfriend held those convictions, that could have been believable. Likewise if Ste felt in gratitude and debt to Johnny, and therefore wasn`t able to see Johnny could be both dangerous and deceptive. But this whole brother spin just take the credibility out of the story completely, whether he is his brother or just claims to be. It is nothing but a cheap trick to create surprise. But not good drama, since it derails the core story more than explains or elaborate on it.

@@Tvjunkieful12 I completely agree with everything you said. After tonight's episode I was surprised and confused by the decision to take the story in this direction. It doesn't ring true to my idea of how this process usually takes place in real life at all. However I think it's still too early to condemn the story and I'll continue watching it with interest.

@@quietastronaut Thank you, I appreciate the comment, and will try to explain better what I mean. You are off course free to think differently, I will not claim you have to feel as I do about the story. But to me the story lost it`s credibility with this twist, and when you no longer believe something could actually happen or have happened, it is very difficult to be engaged by the story or characters at all. As a scene I think both the performances and writing in this scene was very good - as a scene. It just didn`t belong in this story. This brother/brother claim twist derailed the story so completely off track, to me it fell off a cliff and as a result most likely will keep falling until it crashes. To me a story either is believable - and keep me engaged and involved - or it isn`t, and I lose interest. Worse, it starts to annoy me, and every little mistake and flaw screams at me as a roaring lion. It was like that with both the Amy Barnes murder and the storyline where Sami attempted to use Kyle to get his revenge on James. There was so many stupid twists, one more moronic than the next, I silently moaned and cringed for each one of them. Factoring in how much great work many of the writers and directors have done on other shows, I don`t understand why realism, logic and authenticity goes out the window just because they write and direct for Hollyoaks?

I think he might be an undercover cop or something trying to bring a group down so he had to play a clut leader to take the group down so he has to bring someone in to the group as the group as asked him too so he has to do it before he catch them out to arrest them. @Zcode223 It doesn`t make sense to me either. If this story is meant to be about radicalization, having Ste believe Johnny to be his brother is not exactly the most common approach. On the other side, the way Johnny has been acting around Ste, he as, you said, more appeared to be infatuated by him, than anything else. So I struggle to make head or tails of this storyline too. I honestly think they would have been wiser to have Johnny as a new love interest for Ste, and reserved the radicalization storyline for Liam. Some dodgy contacts of his, who he for "business" reasons needed to pretend to go along with, at the same time as he had to keep them and his girlfriend Lisa apart, since she was of color and they were racists. Could have been both dramatic, suspenseful and action-filled, I think. Having Johnny be Ste`s brother (or just pretending to be) is just a cheap trick to create surprise, but which distances the storyline from the reality about what the storyline is meant to be about so much it could ruin it completely. Had Ste been radicalized because his new boyfriend had those views, that could have worked. But to have Johnny be yet another of Ste`s many surprise turn up siblings (when he first arrived, he was alone, had ran away from his mother because of his violent stepdad and was living in a squat), just makes the storyline so unbelievable I, for one, completely lose interest.

@@dannynix4546 True, Ste has not had a boyfriend matching him this good since Ryan - and he was made to be a mentally disturbed serial killer, so intent on proving himself not to be gay, he not only jumped into bed with any female who would let him, to prove to himself he wasn`t gay, but both killed, assaulted and kidnapped to keep his secret true self a secret. I could have bought it to a certain extent, had his father still been alive. But a need to please a dead for years homophobic father to win over sexual urges and longing for love and companionship - pull the other one! That is pure nonsense! Because of his background with a homophobic father, though, it would not have been unlikely for Ryan to have a sexual maturity considerably below his own age. He would have made a lot more credible pederast, than serial killer. Since his father`s negative reaction to discovering him with another boy or guy, likely could have traumatized him so much he never would have gotten beyond that stage in his sexual development - and therefore would feel more attracted to, and on the level with, boys and guys the same age he himself was when his father caught him doing the nasty, so to speak. This is the same pattern we see in many of the abuse cases involving the catholic church and their clergy. Since it both is an anomaly the large majority of the victims to be underage boys (not females or males above the age of consent) in those cases - while female victims dominates in other areas where there is abuse, from home situations, to sport or other arenas where sexual abuse occurs - and also the percentage of abusive priests and more exceeds the percentage of violators on all other arenas where sexual abuse has been discovered (meaning the chances of being subjected to abuse is much greater with a priest or clergy, than with anything from a teacher, coach, foster-father or anyone else who is not a clergy), clearly indicates catholic clergy to be the most common sexual abusers of minors in general - and even more so when it comes to sexual abuse of underage boys. The majority of the cases involving the catholic church and sexual abuse involves clergy and underage boys. The theory being the catholic church` general condemnation of homosexuality traditionally have offered the priesthood as the perfect camouflage for homosexual catholic males who wanted to cover up that fact about themselves, and therefore, because of the celibacy demand, found the priesthood a perfect hiding place, so no one should find out who and what they really were. But since through the church they also are confronted with young boys as anything from alter boys, choir boys, boys who are parishioners or on the church` various sports teams, it becomes harder and harder for them to suppress their sexual urges. But instead of being drawn towards other gay men closer to their own age, because the feel themselves to be inferior to them sexually, feel more comfortable with the younger boys who both are as inexperienced as themselves, and who they also have authority over. Had the catholic church allowed priests and clergy to get married and have families, there likely would have been a different type of people applying to become priests - especially if they allowed women to become priests and higher clergy as well. It was one thing in the olden days, when monks lived in monasteries and there was no underage boys for them to abuse. Then shutting off that part of their life worked, cause should it not, they would either have had sex with themselves, or found themselves another monk with the same longings. Less likelihood of someone getting taken advantage of without their consent when all the monks were adults, than what is the case today when young men who have (at least are supposed to) lived in chastity through their entire education as a priest, suddenly are placed in charge of young boys they both are in a position of authority to, and also could find sexually attractive, should those priests be attracted to males. When a problem could be drastically reduced by allowing both marriage, and female clergy, it is a mystery why the catholic church persist not facing up to that fact, but are happy to continue to have cases, more than 15 years after this type of abuse within the catholic church first got properly highlighted with the Boston cases, and the world wide tsunami of other cases that flooded the catholic church in it`s path. Australia and Maryland are just a few of the new cases there has been of serious sexual abuse of minors, or cover ups of such, within the catholic church, which have been exposed in 2018. How many more is the world willing to tolerate in the future, before putting it`s foot down for the recklessness of demanding celibacy of priests, at the same time as the church is condemning homosexuality as a sin, and therefore leave the church as a sort of refuge for gay catholic males? But by doing so plays Russian roulette with the safety and well being of alter boys and other underage males the priests will have access to through their daily work. To be honest I was a little disappointed Hollyoaks were so toothless when they made Joel return as a trainee priest. With Joel`s background there was so many angles his storylines could have had - instead we got a cheap imitation of Thornbirds with him and Cleo. At least they could have involved the church, have some priests and priests students represent a threat to Joel`s career because of Cleo - while other quietly not only supported him and his relationship, but thought it would make him a better priest as well - and used all their influence to cover up and protect the relationship with Cleo, as well as Joel`s career. If we had had the two different views, the modernists, wanting to change the church by ending the celibacy demand, open up for female clergies and stop claiming homosexuality to be a sin, on one side, and the traditionalists on the other. Joel belonging to the former, and therefore many traditionalists would not be unhappy to see him go, it could have brought some suspense and drama into the romantic affair between Joel and Cleo, other than for them to break up and get together again with irregular intervals and for no reason at all. Since it could be the end of Joel`s career, and a moderate catholic publicly shamed - setting that agenda many steps back - on the line, should his and Cleo`s relationship become known to the wrong people. On a G+ forum which unfortunately no longer is there (cause the guy who opened it got his accounts hacked and deleted), I wrote my own little version of how such a storyline could have developed. I don`t remember all of it, but at the end. When the leader of the traditionalists had proof of Joel`s affair with Cleo, and wanted to bring that fact to the awareness of the bishop, there was a regular car chase to stop him from getting there. Joel on his bike, a prominent moderate leader in his car, both chasing the traditionalist in his car. Joel, being able to take a short cut with the bike, got ahead of the traditionalist, waved to him to stop, and promised that if the traditionalist kept quiet about Cleo, and didn`t humiliate her or her family, Joel would quit the priesthood voluntarily and quietly. At which moment the moderate turned up, told Joel no, and to leave. Afterwards he asked the traditionalist if he remembered the time he was asked to play the piano at the practices for the girl choir. He nodded. And the other told him it was a reason for that, namely that a young choir boy had said something during confession to the other that lead him to not only think keeping the traditionalist away from young boys, but also to write down what the boy said and his name, to be a good idea. Since the boy didn`t want anyone to know, the other didn`t feel he had the right to push him. But he told him to run to him IMMEDIATELY if someone should suggest something similar again, and also made sure the traditionalist was moved to the girl choir instead of the boys one. He still had the name and statement of that boy, he told the traditionalist. The only reason he hadn`t taken it further was that he, and others, had kept an eye on the traditionalist and made sure he never was alone with any of the boys ever. But should the traditionalist not back off going after Joel, and also persuade the other on his side to stop going after Joel too - that name and statement would be handed to the bishop. I have a preference for characters that not are either good or bad - but more realistic. And in real life people both do serious mistakes only once, and also justify ugly means with the perceived nobility of their objective. But I dislike the Hollyoaks approach, like with Jonny/Gavin now, of having characters that appears to be good to over time turn out to be more like monsters - and the other way around, since it can mislead viewers about reality, and unfairly expect nice people not to be so, because of what they have seen develop in the episodes of Hollyoaks. Holy! It is almost time for me to start on dinner, I have guests coming. Sometimes I completely lose track of time when I am on these.

Was in Grange Hill with Ben Freeman and Aidan David, played Sorcha Cusack`s character`s son in Casualty and also have several movies under his belt - among them one with Kris Marshall and Xavier Samuel set in Australia and featured around a wedding. He also had a comedy series where he did parodies of famous people like Simon Cowell, George Michael and Ozzie Osborne, if I recall correctly. How could I mistake the two of them?
