So true Adam we would go there after seeing opening movies at the El Cap. So sad I loved your evening walks and you sharing what was occurring live from the streets from memory
@@TheDailyWooHey Adam, there's a RU-vid page called The Troll Patrol and they're saying negative things about you and your friend Daphne. I put in some good words for you guys on a few of their stupid videos. They also trolled the GIV. This troll Patrol page is a bitter scum bag who has nothing better to do than troll people who actually enjoy their lives. Much love, friend!
I grew up there in 70s and 80s, it was clean and beautiful to an extent, but dangerous and "ugly" too. I remember the selling of drugs, cocaine, pimps and prostitutes there especially on Sunset Blvd and Santa Monica Blvd, various "adult book stores" and the Pussycat x movie theaters. Hedonistic. People were friendlier back then and rent was really cheap. Not anymore.
I miss Hollywood. The way it use to be. Even though there is so much of it that is abandoned, it still has this eerie haunting presence of it’s glitzy and glamours past.
Wish it was possible to go back in time and visit Hollywood in its prime, just to see how the buildings looked like and visit those old school theatres.
The Capitol Records building Hollywood Bowl Griffith Park & The Hollywood sign El Capitan Grauman,,"s Chinese & Pantages Theaters are state historic landmarks.
In about 1923, my mother and her parents visited relatives in California for a month or so. Mother shot snapshots of the stars of the movies on location in the LA area. In those days, film companies drove around till they found a likely location, unloaded camera, director, and actors, and shot a 30-minute feature. Anybody wandering by could snap all the shots they wanted. Unhappily, mother destroyed all her photos when she was about 95.
Got family from there that used to live there and it is truly rapidly over the last several years going down hill and kinda scary now. Nothing magical about it anymore. Sad to see it go down.
Live relatively nearby. Stopped visiting Hollywood Boulevard several years ago due to rising crimes. It used to be considered a magical place, but no longer. Sad!
It was fun when I frequented it in the early 2000s performing at the Magic Castle as a magician’s assistant, or auditioning for theater roles there and in the surrounding areas. When I came back in the 2010s, it was tolerable but not as good. When I last visited in 2019 I saw the signs of decay…really bad.
When I was there last year around this time, it was full of homeless people. It's a bit bizarre to have those food delivery robots driving around right in front of their noses... The last time before that when I visited the Boulevard (back in 2014) it all felt way more magical and cliché, compared to what it turned into these last 10 years. Such a shame how it feels like a ghost town.
Hollywood Blvd has long had a checkered history. I recall it from years ago, way before Adam was living near there. The bldg next to where the Jimmy Kimmel show is done (& has a sign on its roof promoting the Haunting in Venice movie) was long abandoned. The Dolby Theater complex where Adam is filming from above the street was a parking lot until around 2000. Around the same time, the bldg where the Tussand museum is located next to Grauman's was a parking lot. A lot of properties around the Pantages Theater were an assortment of parking lots & small bldgs occupied by stores like Pep Boys auto parts. The nearby old Broadway Hollywood bldg was vacant for years (it's now apts), & the W Hotel across the street didn't exist until 2008.
I myself remember Hollywood in the early 2000s, when I performed at the Magic Castle as an assistant to my illusionist/escape artist stage magician boss and mentor. I also auditioned at many of the tv and film studios as well as theaters around the area. From ‘05 to ‘10 I lived elsewhere, came back to Los Angeles by 2011 or so. Things in Hollywood had changed but weren’t as bad compared to when I finally moved out of California permanently in 2018.
I have a friend who used to work at the payless shoe source on the corner of Hollywood and Wilcox, right across from the old Pacific theater and round the corner from the "you are the star" mural - it's a damn shame what happened to that mural, I remember when it was beautiful, it was vibrant the colors were vivid, now it's faded and defaced by people who don't care about the great history of Hollywood. I remember we used to eat at a place just down the street called Star Burgers, they used to have great burgers there.
I accidentally took a CD once, (I thought it was just a flyer), when I told the guy I didn’t want it and tried giving it back, he refused to take it, got in my face and wanted to fight while demanding his money, yeah, good times
@@BudFuddlackerthat’s crazy yet I’m not surprised because my kids and I were literally attacked by a Spider-Man character when we visited over a year ago, he wanted a bigger tip, we didn’t even ask him to be in our photos but I still have him a few dollars and he started yelling that wasn’t enough money! I wish there was a cop around cause I wld have reported him!
I used to go to the Hollywood and Highland area and walk around there and where the Egyptian theater is. That was from about 2004 until 2014. But it started getting unsafe, imo. There were too many crazy people around and frequent shootings. I stopped going. But I had some great times before. I was surprised by how many of the stores are closed. But when I think about it, if I don't feel safe probably others don't either. Thanks for going out there. It was fun visiting from afar.
Adam Thank You for all the traveling that you do. Great stream very informative. I was in Hollywood back in the late 1970's early 1980's. It was Great back then. WOW how it has changed.
I remember walking from Wallich's Music City on Sunset & Vine up to Hollywood Blvd then over to Highland to the Hollywood Bowl to see the Beatles. Innocent time!
Great video thanks for sharing this one I lived in Hollywood from 1966 through 1980. My dad worked at Musso and frank grill. I lived on a little street between Carlos and Yucca Avenue on a little street called Vista Del Mar one block north of Hollywood Boulevard one block west of Gower.
There were a few wild things going on in the 60s on Sunset Boulevard Hollywood Blvd didn't have a reputation for being weird back then It was clean, & respectable .
I lived on Sycamore off Hollywood Blvd 1969 to 1971 .It was spooky even back then and I loved every minute of it.I still am drawn to it when I visit. Thanks for bringing me back there.
Happy to know you’ve filmed more of the Chaplin Keaton Lloyd Alley! I’m always learning new things with anyone’s Hollywood videos but that was my favorite part!
Adam, to be fair Hollywood has been a S-hole city for many years. I should know, I’m born and raised here in Southern California, about 20 miles west of Hollywood. Unfortunately ton of history is being erased in that town. The city has really been on an even faster downward spiral over the last 3 1/2 years though. A city with no rules. A prime example was those guys on the dirt bikes popping wheelies along Hollywood Blvd. And Cahuenga, is pronounced Kowanga or Kawengha. Lol. The ‘h’ is silent.
What caused the city to tear down so fast? When I visited LA in 2014 it all felt way nicer. I came back last year and ended up in misery. Homeless people everywhere, about half of all stores were emptied up, all activities at night (like bars and such) felt very isolated... Being from Europe, I'm actually really afraid to go back. My visit last year kind of ruined the image of 'Hollywood' in my mind. Hopefully things will crawl back up in the future.
Fantastic job. And remember ' no pants, no shoes, no shirt, no service. Remember it and remember to live in a special pup tent that includes shoes, shirts and pants 👖😄 👍
Hi Adam, I first visited the US in 1990. I remember thinking "I can't wait to see Hollywood". I'd grown up watching movies with my mum and never thought I would see the US let alone Hollywood. Well, your video title says it all. I realised the "Hollywood" I thought of was the Beautiful places in the Hills. I still think Hollywood Boulevard has it's own charm and history. Graumanns theartre with the famous hand and footprints was something I'd always wanted to see. I still have a photo of me placing my hands in Marilyn Monroes prints!
Really good one Adam. Born and raised on these streets so I certainly appreciated the real look at the old 'hood. I'm circa 1970's so quite a bit different then, but same vibe of craziness.
Aww man I lived right by you on Beachwood Dr in 06 to 2014 and used to work at Bally's Gym for years right across street from you too. Hollywood is crazy now 🤯. Have a nice trip 💕🤙
Lol…. Kress?? That was the home of the original Fredrick’s of Hollywood! Hollywood Magic was right next to it when I worked there and lived a few blocks up Whitley. Before that I lived up Cherokee on Franklin. Yeah, I spend several decades there as it was near The Magic Castle where I went regularly. Loved this look back at SOO many years of my old stomping grounds starting around ‘77 on. Thanks for the great memories :-)
Kress was the name of the department store the building was originally built for. After Fredericks left (having been there since the 60's) developers sunk a fortune into restoring it and went back to using the Kress name to start a multi story nightclub that didn't last too long and still sits empty to this day.
thank you very much! Your explanations and the itineraries really helped me plan the trip to the USA, I really like your Volgs, and the bookstore, there aren't as many stores as there used to be.❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉
Saw Terminator 2 there at the Dome in 92. Saw Hello, Dolly there in 69. Great sound! Miss the older buses from the RTD and especially the old 5 star "Hollywood Special" streetlights.
California just had a birthday 173--years old on September 9. I have a lot of good memories of Hollywood like as a kid my dad would drive down sunset bl. my brothers and I would watch for the Rocky & Bullwinkle studio and outside of the studio stood a Rocky & Bullwinkle statue with a spotlight on them and that made our night. Thank you, it was nice to hear your memories of Los Angeles🌴🌴🌴Did Lucy & Ethel ever return John Wayne footprints to the Grauman's Chinese Theater? ha ha. 🌴🌴🌴
As a local who grew up in Hollywood, I would recommend to those thinking about coming here to live and love the history of the place to NOT live in any of the new high rent apartments with the thin walls but try to find the hidden nuggets of old Hollywood apartments from yesteryear. My grandmother lived off Orange just north of Melrose and that apartment is still there! Older apartments can be found just east of Highland between Franklin and Hollywood Blvd . It's like jumping back in time! That's for the diehards. hehe
I lived for 8 months in a home Marlon Brando owned when he was a younger actor. David Carradine also, after Marlon moved. During my time there, I would go to Hollywood and Highland and park on the lowest level. Thank for the revisit!
Sorry, but I don't. I grew up around there in the '60s-'70s. Back then there was no crime, homeless or the smell of urine. When it really was like "Once Upon A Time In Hollywood".
Every once in a while I liked to make the trek down to see a movie at the Cinerama Dome. It was just a different vibe. The last movie I think I saw there was The Doors in ‘91 🎹🎸🥁
Awesome tour! The Cinerama Dome opened November 1963 with “Its a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World” It is supposed to reopen in 2024 under a new name i believe the L.A Times said
You and Jordan are my Hollywood California historians. Im thankful for your videos Adam. Hollywood Blvd is kinda fascinating but the history is very Cool 😎. It must be expensive too have an apartment off Hollywood Blvd n Vine. Take care ❤
As I have said a time or two, can't stay away from So Cal. We gotcha ! Ahh memories. No longer the golden state , a bit rusty ! Looking slim and trim. Be safe.😎
I would think Hollywood an tourist area would be losing money .i I think with the money people paying to see all of Hollywood they would get clean an better accommodation an better hospitality .. i think its going to take more than hand sanitizer .clean up Hollywood ❤
Oh lm so yearning to return!Thank you for your wonderful vlog!I'm selling my condo n l want to go visit Hollywood again!Live in Va...but was at Hollywood in 2012...l just love it!You rekindled my love!oxxo
Thanks for the tour. Always glad to see places I can't visit. Good thing to just see everything online, I can imagine it smells worse in person 😊 have you made plans to check out the warner brothers ranch to see if they have done any demo yet? Still a shame to lose all the movie history. California is slowly destroying what made it famous. Safe travels, dude
Larry Edmunds is still here?!??! Awesome! I didn't know they'd moved! There used to be two or three other great bookstores on the boulevard, and I still have a few books I got there in the 1980s. The Wig & Costume shop used to be Fredericks of Hollywood's original and best store, they taught Victoria's Secret everything they needed to know but Victoria forgot most of it.
Regarding Jim Carrey's signature: I wonder if "merrily merrily merrily merrily" has anything to do with the row row row your boat song. The following line is "life is but a dream" which would kind of seem appropriate.
Jim Carrey is a very spiritual guy and I remember him talking about his inscription. He was referring to how we must remember to row gently & merrily as life is but an illusion/dream.
It seemed to me that a lot of the old foot prints in the cement at the Chinese theater were in good shape while many of the more recent ones were cracking, I just found it interesting
I’m glad I was able to see Hollywood long before the slow death started. It was exciting to see all the history there. Now, I feel you have to be on high alert and cautious at all times and can’t even enjoy what’s left of Hollywood.
Everybodys a Dreamer, and Everybodys a Star and Everybodys in Showbiz. Doesn't matter who you are, there are Stars in every city, on every block and on every street. But if you walk down Hollywood Bolevouard, their names are written in Concrete😢😊😊
I stayed at Roosevelt hollywood hotel and later moved to California to work in movies 🎬 and did some acting even did screen test worked at universal studios. Moved from indiana to North hollywood to follow my dreams wasn't boulevard of broken dreams for me. Moved and worked with many famous people even attended george harrison's memorial service and met hus sister and pete best and micky dolenz also saw the fab four at liverpool days in pasadena awesome
I still love Hollywood although it is the trenches now. I was there just yesterday up and down sunset and the blvd. The familiarity of the neighborhood keeps me going back EDIT: Learned some new stuff here as well, like alley Keaton alley by 1640 and TSG. Great vid.
Great video as always but be careful of the Spider-Man who attacks you for not giving him money for jumping in your photos uninvited! He scared my kids so bad😡
i remember when you did a (LIVE CHAT) on Hollywood Blvd, you stopped after a while, because of the TROLLS, but you did one right after you put LARGE MARGE up for sale.
