My young son was driving across Kansas a few years back and he called me to tell me he just got chills down his back listening to a Hollywood Fats solo. I welcomed him to the blues lover world. No gray area ...only black or white. You either love it or you don't. 30 years ago since Fats left us. He's never been equaled. R.I.P. Fats
Michael Man was the Mike Bloomfield of my generation. What a great, great bluesy guitar style and technique he had. Heads and shoulders above his contemporaries and he could stand with the best guys Chicago had in the 1940s and 1950s. He is missed. Love to hear him play, just straight from the heart and the gut. Rave on, Fats.
19 yrs. old playing with Shakey Jake, opening for Jr. Wells & Buddy Guy @ the Ash Grove, L.A. Buddy & Jr. stopped playing poker in the back room to come out and listen. After that he went on the road with Johhny Shines.
One beautiful flowing original line into the next. When you're playing around 3 chords and you can do what Fats is doing, well, damn, that's HOT playing.
First...thanks for posting this video. it's not just about "licks" ...it's about soul....and playing each note with conviction. Fats is "one" with the guitar...
Beautiful! Absolutely beautiful! As a piano player, I use Hollywood Fats Band CD to practice. Good God that man could play. I wish I could have seen him play live.
Sweet, Man he just ripped it, Cut loose, Spanked it hard and made it cry, Smokin hot, Had a mind mold with his guitar, Spring loaded vibrato, String binding finger flying blues playing s.o.b. Thanks for the upload.
Fats was surely chillin and kickin back with some Otis Rush a couple of days before this show!! Never heard anyone who was any more fluent and versatile. Somebody ought to introduce the editors of Rolling Stoned ragazine to MISTER Michael Mann.
THANK YOU for uploading these vids of the James Harmon Band and Hollywood Fats! I used to love watching them gig at the White House in Laguna Beach back in the 80's. What an incredible show they would put on! I've never heard a better band live - ever.
Been a couple years since I searched for Fats on RU-vid. What a pleasant surprise to find this! Thanks for providing. Fats is one of the greats of the genre. Did he ever have a bad night? What a monster player.
All these years later not having Fats around and his fat tones to lift our spirits still hurts. What a loss to the Blues world.....and to folks who loved him
I'VE NOTICED YOU DON'T NAME OTHER MEMBERS I KNOW WHO'S PLAYING... PLEASE LIST THE OTHER BAND MEMBERS WHEN YOU POST YOUR GREAT POSTS I'VE ENJOYED ALL I'VE SEEN I DUG HEARING FATS BLOW THAT GUITAR THING HE DID CARLOS GUITARLOS USA HIGHLAND PARK L. A. 90042
Thanks, gonna check out Bloomfield, but have some respect, you aware of the concerts when he was backing through out? Imo Fats became the Sam Kinison of blues.
I tend to agree with the hated Jack in that there's a lot of real estate on the guitar neck Mr. Fats tend to neglect. For my money, Junior Watson exploits the possibilities inherent to an electric blues guitar to a much further and artistic degree than this fellow.
Edward Drayton It's amazing when people get fired up because their opinion isn't shared. I guess thats what 20+ years of self employment has given me; Free thinking. Enjoy punching your time card Edward, your a lemming.
You don't have to like it but he certainly isn't playing the same lick over and over. He may be using the same scale but he uses all sorts of ideas to keep that solo interesting. No need to be sarcastic.
