Hollywood Studios FOOD TOUR: Part 2! 

Hey, ABC Commissary Cast Member here! We don't have the Lemon Pepper Salmon or the Garlic Chimichurri Steak anymore. We now offer Enchiladas and Teriyaki Rice bowls. We continue to offer great vegan options, however. Our new vegan burger is delicious, and I'm not even remotely vegan. The southwest burger got a re-work, and we changed our jalapeno popper appetizer out for a southwest fries appetizer. We also have some new signature desserts during dinner. The menu went through a lot of changes in the past two months, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive. Are we the best quickservice restaurant in Disney? Certainly not. But I do enjoy our food now? Absolutely. I wouldn't eat at the Commissary years back, and I have no qualms about dining at my work location now. This isn't a bias, I'm just picky! We have better food now than the location used to serve in 2015-2016 and prior.

Got a booking for Mama Melrose so when they ask the name of the party I can say “it’s Mama Melrose and family”. Yes it’s corny but my 8 year old daughter thinks it’s hilarious 😂

this must be completely random and weird but i wanted to let you know that i watch dfb guide on youtube every single day, and i love it so much. i originally found your channel when i was researching for my trip in march and i've stayed watching ever since. every video brings me so much joy because i remember how amazing my trip was and how i learned so much from your videos. i just wanted to say thank you for adding some extra disney magic and happiness into my life :) im sorry if that's a little rambly but i felt like i needed to express my gratitude for helping me stay happy in some low times and im so thankful i found a little place where i can just stay happy, so thank you so much for that

My dad and I had the absolute best experience at Mama Melrose’s last year on our first trip to Disney World! Basically, there was only one reservation time available that day, which was 7:15, and we had fastpasses for Fantasmic! at 7:45. We told our server that, and he was the nicest person ever about it! He took our order right away, and seriously got our food to our table within a couple minutes. The food was amazing as well, and we had plenty of time for Fantasmic! We are eating there again when we go back in April, and we are really going to appreciate it this time, because we got a reservation for a lot earlier. Definitely recommend this place for great food and AMAZING service

I love 50's Prime Time! I have Celiac disease and this is one of the few places I can get Fried Chicken, let alone GREAT Fried Chicken!! We don't participate in the fun however we're just boring. 😂

Mama Melroses is my favorite! The food was delicious and the service was great. Can't wait to go back next year!

Sci-Fi is my family's favorite when not looking for something rushed or fine dining. The theming is the best IMO and the food is pretty good, especially the milkshakes!

Nice to hear good stuff about Mama Melrose. We love that place and it doesn't usually get the love it deserves!

Really loved the Hollywod vine and Dine, went last year and was really good. It was our first restaurant dinner in Disney (before always go to counter service) so it was really good, the experience with the characters, the food was great. It was for holidays days and it was really nice

I've been to Sci-Fi Dine In Theater a few times and have never had a bad meal. We make it a point to dine there every time we visit. We usually get a burger but there was a person in our party that got a steak and said it was really good. 50's Prime Time is another one we love to go to and the food was fantastic!

We were there for 8 days and ate our way through every park! But Mama melrose was by far our favorite! We call it our hidden gem! Best steak ever! And we ate at the big named steak houses there! Loved it!!

The sci fi drive in restaurant is literally my favorite place on earth

I love the Brown Derby restaurant....home of the original Cobb Salad. Upscale, but not too stuffy. Waitstaff tells history on how the Cobb Salad came about and the reason for the famous caricature drawings of famous people on the walls of the restaurant. I reccomend it!

I loled at the Age Alert graphic. I so remember the key chain flashlights. We must be around the same age AJ.

Huge Disney fan here, always loved Mamma Mamma Melrose's too! Leaving for Disney this Saturday!! YAY!! Can't wait! It's been toooo long since my last visit!!

We are in the process of planning a trip to WDW for my daughters birthday, my family and both sets of grandparents. In that group will be 4 diabetics (inclusive of me). We really enjoy your channel, but it seems everything is carb heavy if not desert based. Is it possible for you to do a best or favorite low carb options at WDW. We will be going to magic kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood studious, and animal kingdom. Again, love the channel. Thank you for any assistance you can give.

AJ -- Just FYI, as of Feb 27/19 the kids Chicken Pot Pie is no longer on the menu at 50s Prime Time Cafe. I went there specifically for the Mickey puff pastry and was extremely disappointed. My "uncle" told me it was "off the menu" but would "see what he could do"...which apparently meant that I got pot pie insides and a piece of plain dry white toast on the side. No puff pastry at all! Was so jealous when the adult versions came by with their puff pastry.

The drive in restaurant looks really good tbh!

Thank you for this Food Tour video! While watching this video, I booked dinner at 50’s Prime Time Cafe for my upcoming trip in October. It will be my mom’s first time at WDW, and I’m trying to make it extra special! She’s been to Disneyland many times since we live in SoCal, but has never been to WDW and she wanted to go the next time I went! It’ll be fun for sure! Thanks again!

I've been to Hollywood & Vine for breakfast and I definitely recommend it. It's not cheap to be honest but it's still definitely worth the time, great eats for breakfast and an amazingly wide range of variety of things to choose from. Loved it.

I had the pizza from pizzerizzo on my last trip to Disney a few weeks ago and I loved it!

Great vid as usual. I am interested to see how food will change/improve as Hollywood Studios is built out with Star Wars Land and whatever the future growth holds for DHS.

I've eaten at SciFi Diner several times and I love it. I love the burgers and theming. Service is good.

Watch videos everyday! We were at Disney world last year and just booked for next summer! I missed so many restaurants and we were there for a week! Next trip 8 days! Researching now to make sure we get the most food wise as we use dining plans! 50s prime time cafe is my favorite at Hollywood studios!

Thank you for recommending 50s Prime time cafe. We went here on 4/9/19, what a great find. Our server even tried to have my wife eat her vegetables, not happening lol. Both the service and food were great.

I would like to see a really great video on Holiday times!! Christmas in particular. One on how to get the most out of the ticketed Christmas Party would be great! And/or a video about what each park does for Christmas that shouldn’t be missed! I would also love a video about all of the ticketed food/entertainment/party finds and opinions on them! 😁

We're going to Disney World in July! I'm so excited because I haven't been since 1991! I'm looking forward to the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant. Ironically we live in Vineland, NJ. We have the only drive-in theater in the state of NJ.

I’m only going for two days in October, but I’m definitely going to 50’s prime time. I love the 50’s and so it’s definitely on my Disney bucket list.

We loved 50s Prime Time- had the plate with the 3 meats and chicken pot pie. Definitely getting the kids' one with the Mickey pastry whenever we go again tho! Have heard good things about the peanut butter cake there too.

50s Primetime was fantastic! We got dinner there on our last night at the parks and it made our stay so magical. Our “Grandma” who brought us our food was so sweet and fun. She was just like my great grandma so my mom and I felt very nostalgic and teary! The pot roast was delicous. I absolutely suggest asking for whatever the blue-plate special is. When we went the restaurant was serving steak stroganoff and it was drool-worthy, SO GOOD! Overall it was so amazing, I highly suggest it if you cant get a reservation at the Scifi Dine-in Theater!

Was at Hollywood and vine last summer. Food was ok. But the characters were amazing that day, we went for lunch!

I really liked Mama Melrose. Food was really good. We had a large party, 13, and it didn’t seem to bother them at all. We also prebooked it and that was one of the restaurants you were able to get reserved seat tickets for Fantasmic.

Hollywood and Vine is probably my favorite character buffet on property. We ate there in 2016 and we were so pleasantly surprised. We will be back in the parks in a couple weeks and we are very excited! 13/10 would recommend again and again haha.

Had to change as some of our choices were 2 dining credits but would have loved to have done Mickeys back yard bbq and hoop de doo and Cindys, although technically the day that we eat at Universal will give us an unused credit so one is a possibility I gues...... Myself & my bf went to Sci-Fi Drive In last november, we did a few table service and this was our favourite and most memorable of the trip. I wasn't expecting this at all and now i'm thinking it was maybe a fluke? I got a burger and my bf got a steak. His was rare and mine was medium rare and they were both honestly amazing!!! So much flavour and the meat was so tender. I also remember our server being really good. We're going back next year and this is the only restaurant we will definitely be going back to! I hope we're not disappointed

I love sci-fi cafe... We have a movie theater in Indianapolis.. one of the few that never closed.

We've got Mama Melrose and Sci-Fi booked for September. We have eaten at Mama's once before and enjoyed that, but this will be the 4th time for Sci-Fi - I've only had a burger there but have absolutely no complaints

a hidden gem at Baseline taphouse is the nonalcoholic black cherry soda! It's sooooo good! not too sweet, tastes like a real cherry

i'm a fan of DFB! all the way from México, let me tell you guys you were one of my "guide lines" for my first WDW trip back in may, and definitely helping me out for my december trip. i went to Hollywood & Vine and i heard a lot of bad reviews for that place, but it was really nice, also heard about the "bad" character interaction... but my character interaction was OVER the top, up to the point that i could say i got a little annoyed of how many times the characters would want to interact with me and my party, but great experience, tbh.

We've done the character-less dinner buffet at Hollywood & Vine a few times. We have no complaints. There is enough variety of comfort foods done well to keep us all happy. We've dined at Sci-Fi Dine-In a number of times and even with an ADR, you're going to wait 30-55 minutes for a table!! BTW - the lobby/waiting room is about the size of your bathroom!! Food is OK, I've even had steak there a couple of times! Funny, despite making a few ADRs for Mama Melrose over the years, we always wind up cancelling the ADRs - someday :-) P.S. - What about Peevy's Polar Pipeline?

The Sci-Fi Dine-in Theater was really cool. I just went for the first time. The little movie clips were really funny to watch ironically. Food was good, dessert was great. I just wish it wasn't as dark. It's darker than San Angel Inn. Food-wise, Hollywood Brown Derby was much more delicious. If you're going for theming, go to Sci-Fi. If you're going for cuisine, go to Derby.

OMG AJ please don't jinx it! I hope they don't take the funnel cakes at Oasis Canteen off the snack credit options. These gems are what makes the dining plan so fun and valuable ❤️

I had the most delicious short rib and risotto dish at Mama Melroses!

The last time I was at 50's Prime Time Cafe a guy at the next table was demanding so much attention, I just barely got waited on at all. I'm going to try Tune-In Lounge next time. That looks pretty cool.

Ever since the chef from deluxe burger took over the Sci-Fi dine-in theater restaurant the food quality has gone up significantly

This video is perfect timing for me. I’m booking my dining reservations for December. I was trying for Sci-Fi cafe, but was told they aren’t taking reservations right now for it. The cast member wasn’t sure why since it’s less than 180 days out, but they are not booking yet. Maybe it’s going to be closed while I’m there? So I was looking for an alternative so I’m going to rewatch this video and see what interests me. I’ve already done the 50’s Prime time cafe and it was just ok. Doesn’t seem like HS has many food options.

Hey AJ- Great insights on Studios, which I've always thought was the red-headed stepchild when it came to food options. Your advice on the children's chicken pot pie at 50's PTD was great and stirred a thought for a future episode. How about most Shareable Entrees in WDW?!? People are more conscious of portion control- my wife and I split entrees all of the time. Also, maybe expound on other "children's " items that are adequate for an adult. Great job and still love your voice

Headed to WDW mid September. Is it worth it to use a Disney dining table credit on Mama Melrose or Hollywood and Vine to get the VIP seating at Fantastmic??? If so, which restaurant is worth that table service credit, Mama Melrose, or Hollywood and Vine???

I was sooo bummed with our service and food at Mama Melrose 😫 we were there on our honeymoon and waitresses were badmouthing each other to us while we were eating our very dry bland food. Hopefully we just got lucky that trip lol it sounded like such a good idea

Random question - does anyone know if the Gillespie Street Sign still exists somewhere? It's a tradition for us (last name Gillespie so of course we had to) and I didn't know if it would still be around on Grand Avenue now that the Streets of America are gone. My family is going in August and it would be so awesome if the tradition could continue.

Great information! Thank you! Sci-Fi is actually the one restaurant at Disney that we had a truly negative experience at overall. We went for lunch and despite our reservation, we waited for over 40 minutes to be seated. Our service and the food was poor. The movies were actually somewhat disturbing. I do not recommend taking young children.

Are the Junior Characters always going to be there in the morning? I am going at the end of September and didn’t realize the fab 5 aren’t there for breakfast

Hollywood and vine cast member here there is no Pluto in the restaurant the big 5 is and always is Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy and Goofy. Pluto couldn’t stay bc he kept devouring all the food on the buffet!!

I disagree with the commissary the food is delicious here! The ribs taste delicious as well as the other food options and they have good salads. I always have to eat here when i go to Hollywood studios. For me this is the best quick service in the park if you know what to order

Too bad about The Writers Stop. Was one of our favorite places.

I usually agree with your excellent food reviews but I have to speak up about the 50's Prime Time. When we ate there it was super cute but the food was like eating a bad TV dinner that was made in the 50s. What should have been home style food tasted like school / hospital cafeteria fare (actually our local hospitals have great food that is much better than what we ate here).

Mama Melrose's reminds me of the pizza place that the muppet's eat at in the movie.

So, if there's one area where it might be better to leave to get food, it would be Hollywood right now, is that the vibe i'm getting?

Can you PLEASE PLEASE do a dairy FREE video? Trying to figure out where in which parks I can take my little guy too without any issues has been so hard. Haven't even planed for a trip yet because of it.

I ate at Sci-Fi in October and the seasonal burger I had was so good! One of my favorite things I ate on that trip. As for Hollywood and Vine, awful. I remember eating there when I was about 7 and I HATED EVERYTHING. I decided to give it a shot last year since it has literally been 20 years since I last ate there and it was still just as bad. Total waste of money.
