Recently I saw a video by Artsy Madwoman because she had just purchased these holographic molds from a mold maker (see video here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4G4mlT8lVMA.html) and did some test pieces in those molds. I was absolutely blown away by the results and wanted to try these molds for myself (and your viewing pleasure, of course). So here we go! The holo gods were amused...

I love Swirls! Mostly swirls of color, but really any swirls at all - I think they add a beauty and grace to everything. So after I started making soap a few years ago, and needing some sort of biz name that didn't sound like everyone else's version of suds-r-us, I decided on Luxinda Swirl. Luxinda is a twist on my real name, and I quickly started putting swirls of color in all of my handmade soaps.
Now I'm branching out a bit, and I want to keep adding swirls to everything I do!

I use holographic window clings in my molds to get this effect even tried it on a cup which was cool. But I havent seen it used for chocolate ! I'll have to go watch that. So pretty

How long does the holographic effect last? Will it eventually not be there after so many pours eventually? Very cool!!
@Luxinda
@Luxinda 3 года назад
I really don’t have a clear answer for you. All handmade silicone molds tend to wear out with repeated use, so these will too, but I don’t know how many pours you’ll get before the holo doesn’t appear in the resin anymore. The use of mold release - both before pouring resin and again after demolding - will significantly prolong the life of the molds, so that will definitely help.

They are all so very pretty! I first saw this holographic window film that you can get off Amazon. On Sandra lett's Channel where she did a free-form bowl using NO colors at all just resin and the film. And a set of coasters she did the SAME way. They are so cool. Since I only started watching Tumblr tutorials probably 5 months ago? I've wanted one of you to do exactly this method on one of your cups. JUST USING the FILM and resin.. NO colors added at all. I BET THAT would MAKE for a awesome & unusual 1 of a kind cup! Because with the holographic film the best dispersion of the prisms is from the film itself it shows best to use Clear resin and no colors added. You can make a Suncatcher with the ones you made.💗👍

@@Luxinda 😆 I knew you'd like that! Are you going to buy some holographic window film? And try it on a tumbler with just clear resin? That would be so flipping gorgeous & unusual NOBODY else has done it! I might want to add somebody I watched used their holographic film with just clear resin.. BUT then they put glitter in it and I thought oh that's going to look really pretty. Unfortunately the glitter overpowered the prism that the holographic window covering creates! That was NOT on a tumbler by the way. It's been over a year since I saw Sandra lett's freeform bowl and coasters.. so you might have to go into her playlist to find them. Love your projects can't wait to see more!💗

I also saw the holographic film on Sandra Lett’s channel. I bought some and made a gorgeous blue glittery tray with it. Since I wanted the tray to have a smooth finish, I put a thin layer of clear over it. That made the beautiful rainbow effect go away since the clear filled in the texture. 😭 I’m guessing that is what will happen on a tumbler too unless you leave the film’s texture as the final layer. There was so much window film left over that I put some on my kitchen window, and every evening it makes my walls look like they’ve been tie dyed. It’s super cool! 💜
@Luxinda
@Luxinda 3 года назад
Yes, that would definitely be an issue - the holo resin layer would absolutely have to be the final layer with absolutely nothing over it, even a spray varnish. Not sure how practical (I’m sure the holo would wear off with handling and washing the cup), but it could be lovely just to look at!

Love these.. Do you think the holo effect will wear off the mold after multiple uses?
@Luxinda
@Luxinda 3 года назад
I suspect it will wear off with time and repeated use. I am using mold release spray both before and after I pour resin in, so that will help. But I would be very surprised if the holo super-fine etched lines don't wear out at some point. Thank you!!

How do you get the inks not to go to the center? Thank you! Great video!
@Luxinda
@Luxinda 2 года назад
It's very tricky sometimes, because that's what the inks always want to do is go to the center. The thing most folks do is keep putting new inks drops along the outside. When those move toward the center, put more at the outside, etc., until there really isn't any more room. It's not perfect, but with practice you can judge things to come out more like what you want. I hope this helps a little!

That is cool. Do u think if you did the mica powder with resin then poor it. It would make the holographic pop more? But they turn out cool.
@Luxinda
@Luxinda 3 года назад
Possibly, yes. I'm pretty sure if I'd made the black resin opaque black, that would've shown the holo effect much better, and probably stirring mica in, which also makes resin opaque, it would've shown off the holo better, as well. I plan on trying these again using different colorants than this time, which was a first-try experiment. Thanks!!

Thanks! Welcome to the channel 😊 The molds can be reused many times and the holo effect will happen on its own each time, no need to do anything else but add resin.

Hey I don't know if you follow Naptime Creations? She just put up a new video using holographic film with a different pattern a flower. She also links at the end the regular holographic prism design which this lady has created in her coasters. In the Coasters you bought. Trish at naptime just makes her own using silicone caulking and hot glue for the mold

Will the holographic film transfer more than once?
@Luxinda
@Luxinda 3 года назад
Excellent question! The first piece I used was pretty much ruined when I yanked it off (that was the unfortunate moment I didn’t have my camera on). But! The second piece of holo film I used to make the silicone mat is still in perfect condition, so I should definitely be able to use it again for something, maybe try to make a better silicone mat that doesn’t have a bald spot in the middle. So, yes, if the film isn’t damaged, it can definitely be reused.

Will it do that look more than the first time
@Luxinda
@Luxinda 3 года назад
Yes, as long as you take care of the molds (gentle washing between uses and using mold release spray), you should be able to get many holographic resin pieces from the molds before the holographic effect wears out. Thanks!

Can you use UV resin with holographic molds?
@Luxinda
@Luxinda 7 месяцев назад
I don’t see why not, as long as the uv light can get all the way through the resin to cure it. So it might not work with uv resin that’s been colored with a dense black. In that case, the resin actually touching the mold might still be uncured when you demold. You’d need to experiment with that a bit to see what happens. But any color uv resin that the uv light can shine through should work fine.
@heidismith6148

How does that work??? Holographic transfers???
@Luxinda
@Luxinda 3 года назад
Holographic film is used to make the blank that the mold is made from, so the microscopic etched lines that make the holo effect transfer from the blank into the mold. Then when resin is poured into the mold, the holo etched lines transfer from the mold into the resin.
