While obviously pricey by regular person standards it's honestly pretty affordable. 4 rooms at a very fancy hotel in Edinburgh is 1650 EUR. Especially when the first class flight from Tokyo to Edinburgh is like 9k EUR per person.

Keep in mind that they're also bringing their managers and some support staff so, depending on how many people are going and how much stuff they're bringing, just renting the whole Matsuridang castle might actually be more efficient than getting a lot of hotel rooms.

3k per day is honestly less than I expected for something with that great of a view. My father does event tech, so I've helped out with a bunch of events in local castles. And even small and less faithfully maintained ones surrounded by a generic modern town usually already charge somewhere in the upper 3 figures...

I used to go to a roleplay group that frequently rented an entire castle in europe just for the people who showed up to play. They said it was shockingly cheap to do so they do it every year for their annual event. These were just normal people, not rich folks, and it wasn't like they had to go fundraising or anything, they just had the money to front it right off. And literally nobody else could come in, it was private for the whole rental period. Renting castles in europe is kind of a hidden gem thing to do, apparently.

It being "touristy" was probably a benefit to them as the businesses they visited would be very familiar in dealing with non-English speakers. That isn't to say other places are bad, just that "touristy" places would be quicker to adapt to unusual requests from tourists.

It would be easier to do it in post processing. While they could have been wearing motion-capture equipment it would have been a bit conspicuous on the street and it would be all for nothing if there was signal interference from all the mobile technology other tourists were carrying. They probably took footage with them not in a scene then played the footage back in their studio on green screen and had them walk around the scene like their normal recordings.

do remember these castles are ANCIENT and only get refurbished with modern styled interiors just shy few years ago. The basic infrastructure is still mainly preserved so they don't have things like overflow drains.

In the Gamers announcement and then this Scotland Trip livestream, the holo members mentioned that the rough idea was brought to them and it was up to them to accept it or not. Then the holo members have the responsibility to flush out the details.
