Until Trijicon redesigns all their pistol optics with batteries that can be changed without removing the optic, I'll be buying Holosun instead. I have a 508T and a 507K and both have functioned flawlessly.
I have changed most of my pistol dots over to Holosun, specifically the 508 & 509 t models. For shotgun, I decided last year to use a 507c I had laying around and set it to the segmented circle only. Patterns great inside the circle from around 12-20yds, depending on the load. Very fast acquisition of targets and you instinctively know, if it’s in that circle the target is toast.
I have a 508t a 509t a 507 and 407 I really like them all. The 508t is very good quality for the money. I also own a few RMR’s and love them as well but it’s tough to beat the value holosun brings to the table. Overall they’ve been pretty solid. And I think they have a clearer reticle and glass is very clear. Although it does have a slight fish eye effect at the corners
Your timing was prophetic. I just ordered the holosun lineup, rmr, and aimpoint for red dot T/E on duty glock 17s. Your review will be in my presentation to the boss (with your permission). Question will be following soon…keep up the good work.
It’s nice seeing another Minnesota person reviewing. The Holosun 508t is my choice for conceal carry on my M&P. It’s been great out in the Minnesota seasons.
I paid $295 out the door for my 508T last summer. I found it on sale with reputable retailer. My first pistol red dot. Have it mounted on custom milled CZ p-10c. Love it. Can't wait for the SCS to come out. It may necessitate the purchase of a new pistol. Now I am buying optics and matching them to a pistol? lol
@@MrJasontm2386 as someone who owns a lot of eotechs, aimpoints, and holosun optics... Get a 508. Im quite saddened by my 509, as it has some pretty awful distortion. No parallax issues, but very bad off bore distortion. The 508 is a better optic IMO. size wise the 509 isn't much bigger at all. Just "thicker"
Here’s the problem. The only Holosun that comes with a 6 moa dot is the 407. With all their innovation and multiple product offerings why the hell cant they offer 6 moa in all their product lines? I have zero interest in a circle and dot on a pistol - I never even liked it on an eotech on an AR and switched to aimpoint. And 2 moa is just too small imo. So…. i bought an RMR 2 for my Glock 19. It is perfect. Plus - I dont really care about the battery mount, taking off the site ever year or two is not a big deal. It holds zero and a slight rezero takes about 10 rounds in as many minutes. The glass on the RMR is better and dot crisper, IMO. And it is less bulky. So … depends on your needs. For me, not an RMR killer.
I have the Holosun 507 c, both Green and red. Love them both. I also have the Vortex Venom and the Hex Dragonfly. Holosun so far is superior to the others. By far.
Holosun is doing goods things. I bought two of their ACSS Vulcan for a couple of 22s for training purposes. They help new shooters to red dots learn to acquire so much faster. I ended up using them. I liked the larger screen so much that it replaced my RMR. If you are new to red dots I would give the ACSS Vulcan a look too.
Yes absolutely agree. The acss Vulcan is a game changer for new shooters especially. And they announced the 509t is coming with the Vulcan reticle too!
The fact that yall are saying the vulcan reticle is a game changer without understanding the true purpose are really ill informed. Just get a regular dot if you only think that crap
508t - 509t which would you choose if only 1. I want this one but the window size and emitter on 509t X2 seem to be much better...hard to tell online though. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks bud.
@@MrJasontm2386 what gun is it going on? Is the handgun a carry gun? Or used for something else like home defense or the range only? Is this your first red dot on a handgun?
@@Logan-mr4xg Thanks I have rmr and few others that aren't as well built, I'm curious for carry If it's too big or not. I don't necessarily need a huge window but wouldn't mind however it's hard to tell ...sometimes the 508 and 509 look the same relative size.
@@MrJasontm2386 the 509 is definitely larger overall and glass window. But if you go 509 just make sure you get an x2, the new x2 models have alot clearer glass. The 509 isn't as clear as the 508 or 507 but only because you're looking thru 2 panes of glass instead of 1. But like I said the x2 drastically improved on the clarity
I’ve been strongly considering getting two of these - one as a pistol optic, the other as a backup to an LPVO on an AR308. Everything I’ve seen continues to confirm that this is simply a superior option to the RMR and DPP in every metric.
@@Pyreleaf iirc they have the acro footprint so just different plate or milling. Nothing outrageous. I have a 508T and it’s by far my favorite optic, however, my future optics will be closed emitter.
I love the new holosun 507c x2 Vulcan ACSS. It has a 105moa circle ⭕️ so if you get out of alignment it will show part of the circle so you automatically know how to adjust to get back on target instead of having to do that swirling crap or bringing firearm back to compress then punch back out
I think that it is cool that you are willing to work with Holosun products. I like their stuff and bought a 509T specifically due to your recommendation. I trust you.
Green emitters use more power than red, but refinement has closed that gap a lot. Green is also 'usually' easier to see in daylight for the generic human eye, though that varies a bit person to person. Enjoyed the review a lot, especially the reticle shape observations.
That is interesting because according to Holosun they are green emitters are more energy efficient than red. That is one of the main reasons why they are coming out with the green SCS first.
i had an rmr that failed and dealing with trijicin customer service was not pleasant and I bought a holosun 507c while I was waiting for my rmr to comeback and I haven't bought another rmr since
It might be good but I don’t support funding our nation’s enemies. Americans can’t say we want better pay AND to bring jobs back but then complain about price and buy imported stuff. We can’t have it both ways. I do agree that Trijicon and Aimpoint need to innovate.
But trijicon is scamming you because they make hand over fist in cash from dod contracts, theres no excuse for the price they charge you for less features, theyre fucking you
Good video. I find the dot easier to find on the Holosun than the RMR. Also I’m older and retired, I’ve had cataract surgery so I have artificial eye lenses, the Holosun reticle / dot still appears clean and crisp where as the Trijicon products are not.
Shake awake seems pointless with 50k hours of battery life. Seems like something that could potentially cause a malfunction by keeping the dot shut off.
I bought me a 508T to carry on duty. After shooting hundreds of rounds through mine, I will never buy an RMR (Until they come out with green dots, 50k hour battery that can be removed from the side without removing the entire optic).
I’ve been blessed that I have a good job and money is not an issue. But I can’t justify spending money on an RMR when Holosun have better products in my opinion. I know for a fact that Trijicon makes quality products, I’ve carry them on my issued M4 for many many years, but when it comes to pistol red dots, for my EDC gun, I’ll stick with Holosun.
I have Aimpoint on the AR's but for some reason I really like the Holosun circle/dot for handgun instead of dot only. Just like the Aimpoint on rifles, I went with the Holosun for reliability, battery life and ease of changing the battery. Been carrying a Holosun 507K on a Sig 365XL for about a year, don't know how many rounds through it, no problems. Carry it every day on shake awake, still on original battery which I will change soon. Just put a enclosed Holosun 509T on a full size pistol, looking forward to using it. For durability, check out Sage Dynamics, he abuses the hell out of optics to see what they can take, the Holosun holds up very well.
I own quite a few holosun and I found drilling a small hole on the included tool, and attaching it to your keys comes in handy. Never worry about losing it
Holosun is actively taking both trijicon and eotech behind the barn and chopping them up to bury them. These American companies just haven't bothered with R&D for over a decade at this point, and it's really sad. Holosun is an example of a company that actually funds its R&D department.
Great video! It's 1,000% a RMR killer, with ease. I put this on my Sig P320 Legion, and it was dead on without adjusting it. I know I got lucky on that part, but it just added on bonus points! I can shoot 30 yards fast and it feels like I'm cheating
11:18 I asked Holosun if they would consider making a model with the Romeo 1 Pro/ Deltapoint Pro footprint for the sig P320s. They said at this time it was of interest to them.
There is a little bit of overhang on each side when mounted to Glock19 or sth of similar width, do you reckon that would be a problem? i.e. catching on pants or somewhere
I have a 508T gr and love it. Shakeawake is nice. For Me, the green is better, easier to see. My father is colorblind and with red, he usualy must have very high brightnes but with green, "normal". Shooting with The halo alone made it easier for Me to learn to shot with optics. That 2moa dot was all over the place.😁😄 Could sone shoot fast shoots at 20m with Halo only. Things have a tendensy to fail around Me, soo after Aarons test, I bought one😄 As a Swede it was fun to hear the part about imported, like a bad thing... how long time have the US military used Aimpoints?😎😀 Nice chanell, I will stay and look🙂🙂
RMR killer? Like THIS is the one that kills the RMR? News flash: Holosun BEEN killed RMR! lol. And they also killed EOTECH too. Leaps and bounds better, better features, and a fraction of the cost. Case closed lol.
@@GunsandTactics Oh nah, no arguments here! lol. I don't disagree with anything you said. My comment was really in response to the entire subject of "RMR is the best handgun red dot! And so is Eotech!" When Holosun has been killing them for years lol. I'm a subscriber, great video and keep up the good work! 👍🏽
Great review! In the words of Bane in The Dark Knight movie for Trijicon ... “Victory has defeated you!” Like Glock... the company got accustomed to the consumer buying their products without evolving. Now there are companies that evolved to serve the consumers needs... they seem like dinosaurs now.
I absolutely hate holosun. Specifically the 508 t x2 gr….. their “glass” is extremely soft and scratches very easily. The emitter cover is impossible to clean and collects so much dirt which starburst the reticle. All you people raving about them I don’t understand.
I'm looking to buy a red dot for my gun, and Trijicon is out of my list due to the bottom loading battery. I think they should address that sooner than later.
Glad to see the 508s are holding up, I just wish they were cheaper than they are. There's only a 50-90 dollar difference between these and the RMR (if you get the green dot). But the features of the Holosun are still a huge positive.
Where are you seeing those prices? I’ve looked at both the Trijicon and Holosun websites recently, and I could swear the RMR is $150-200 more than the 508T-X2.
Optics Planet has the best deal on the Holosun HE508T V2 with $40 cash back on the green dot and $36 cash back on the red dot version making the 508 green like $360 plus tax.
@@Pyreleaf I've never had an issue with them. Just make sure you're ordering items "in stock". If you try to order something on back order or out of stock is when it becomes a nightmare.
Surefire turbo is trying to catch up to Streamlight. And Holosun is murdering Trijicon. Not sure what the tactical elitists are going to do when they become the dinosaurs and the rest of the world passes by them.
Great video as usual I found your channel roughly 6 months ago while researching the Staccato (2011) platform, Sorry if you have already answered this question before, what is duty pistol and edc ?
Depends, I don't duty anymore so mainly EDC is either a Glock 43x, Staccato C2 or G19. Training guns are based on what my students are running, full size, 2011s etc.
Thanks for content, what safariland model do you prefer for duty with glock g17 or g45 w holosun and surefire or streamlight? Looked like you were running exact setup we have and holster looked great. Many thanks, and stay warm up there!! 👍
My Lord, I love your channel. I watch a lot of RU-vid Videos on weapons and accessories. But you sir are a breath of fresh air!!! down to earth, practical and have actual experience with the material you are using/reviewing.
This is my favorite red dot for a pistol. I can't stop buying them for every pistol I own. I try to get a deal on them all over the internet, usually just above $300. Rock solid performer! Durable, reliable, and great looking.
I'm a waterborne LEO, I work for a large maritime specific agency. Many of us are based in a saltwater environment, (the freshwater crews are often sent to the salt TDY). My question, how does this / or any RMR type sight perform in a hyper-saline enviroment? What specific issue can you speak to regarding the saltwater enviroment? As you might imagine, we and our gear spend a good amount of time being very wet. Thanks.
I would then look at the Holosun 509. It’s a closed emitter which stand up to the elements a little better. Makes it easier to clean off being it’s just glass on both sides and the emitter can’t get blocked by water etc.
I can’t speak on the saline other than MN road salt in the winter lol but being titanium I wouldn’t be any more worried about the salt and take the same care with my firearm. Inclimate weather, rain and snow though all can be challenge. The 509 shines in this area as would any closer emitter option. Please feel free to reach out. Happy to help LE anytime.
You thought it was a copy? There few ways to make a red dot for a pistol. All red dots would be a copy. How many ways to make a flashlight? Laser? Your TV? C'mon man
I might like the optic if I don’t have to remove a rear sight but I took it off . Not this one . It was cool for range past 25 yds and even did a cutout for the holster . Now I just have a tiny laser @10 yds and learned the distances with that setting and I like it for the house but if I could grab a shotgun faster I would grab the shotgun . Hopefully will never have to all of us 👍👍. It is fun to shoot targets tho right ? Love it . I ve learned not to let people know I m a gun hunting person unless they are too . They pass judgement as an animal killer and I haven’t killed a buck in over 5 years . Lost my killer instinct when I see mommies and babies .
@@v.german11b I have the 507c x2 on my competition glock 17 Gen 5 mos and love that little thing. It's been through some hell and is still on its same battery for a years time now and I run that sucker really bright too. It's been through multiple rain sessions and has been bumped more times than I would like to admit while in my holster. Great little optic!
Thanks for the video ! Could you please explain me what is the difference betwwen HE508T-RD-X2-MOUNT and HE508T-RD-X2? What does this « mount » thing mean ? Many thanks !
What did you mount it on? I purchased one for my Glock 34 Gen 5 MOS. I have not mounted yet. I found that it extends past the the sides of the slide. Do you think that this might be an issue?
Great video, I got 3 HE508T and 4 HE509T, 2 HE508T on 3 had die so far... still waiting for diagnostic from Holosun, it's hard on confidence for me. and all my 509T has been abused and they all work like new one! Anyone get similar issue on the 508T ?
RMR has a rep but it’s very overrated. Suing Holosun was lame as hell. Bottom load battery is trash. Glad that had to come down off that ridiculous $600 price tag. Gimme the import. American made ain’t all it’s cracked up to be.
I am running a Holosun 508T on my Glock 19 Gen 5 (duty gun) and a Staccato XC and they are flawless. I am a HUGE Trijicon RMR fan but bottom loading battery is the biggest flaw of the optic.
I know this is off topic a bit but I want to talk a little bit about the SCS optic. I bought one that is made for my Walther PDP. Put it on and during dry fire loved how it worked. I went 208 and after only three shots the head of one of the mounting screws sheared off. The head of the other mounting screw round it off very easily trying to remove it. Unfortunately the gunsmith had to scar up the housing to get it off. Holosun stood by it and sent me a new one. I had the gunsmith put that one on and he used blue thread locker and installed it to specs as far as torque goes (15 inch lbs.) I went to zero it and didn’t even get to fire a shot. I put in my loaded mag dropped the slide and got popped in the face with the head of one of the mounting screws. Holosun seems to have a problem with the SCS sharing off screws. Maybe they are using very cheap Chinese screws for the SCS. But the gunsmith said the only Holosun he has seen do this is the SCS. So now I got to contact Allison and see if they can somehow figure this out. If not I’m going to see if they will trade me out for the 508T. I hope they don’t give me the runaround.
The RMR was king of pistol dots, in like 2016. Trijicon refuses to get with the times and they're just riding their name to continued sales. The 508t and 509t are objectively better in every way than an RMR and significantly cheaper. Id be surprised if Trijicon was even still relevant in pistol optics 5 years from now, so many better options. Maybe by then they'll finally have released an enclosed pistol optic, but you'll probably still have to remove the thing to change batteries.
Hey brother. I'm a retired cop from Florida and my holosun 507c x,2 will not turn on even after putting in a new battery. Can you help me with that? Thank you
Looking to get into security guard training, what would you suggest as a duty pistol, out of my three options? Fn 509 compact tactical with 17 round mag, cz p09 with 19 round mag, or staccato p with 20 round mag?
Great video ! I have the same sight along as a 507C he on my 23. Love Holosun ! I put the 508 T gr on my G19 gen 5. I do like the 508 better but , doubtful I'll replace the 507 , why , it's a Holosun 🤷
LOL I love the, "next time you go poop" instead of the normal reading material I am going to start put all of my manuals up there! Maybe my wife will read how to use her stuff?!? Like her car.
My understanding is that the titanium bodied optics have issues with the black paint. I know 2 people that have had issues with unpainted or flaked off black paint in certain areas of the optic. Also... titanium is super strong, but unlike magnesium... titanium is heavier than aluminum (about 50% heavier). So you're adding more mass to your reciprocating slide. You may find that a re-spring is required. This is why I run a 507c. I like the looks of the 508 better, but I'm also finicky with my Gucci gun. I don't want paint flakes etc... coming off. Plus... I don't need my optic housing to be 150% bomb proof. It's a range toy, and the 507c is plenty strong for most people's usage. Plus... it's $60 cheaper for virtually the same optic.
