"Holy God, we praise Thy Name" hymn from "Faith of our Fathers" collection performed by Irish Philharmonic Chorus on Late Late Show, RTE Television, Ireland on 18th Oct. 1996
MISS MARGARET, I love this sacred music 🎶, and I do fully agree with you, the problem is that many people have lost their faith in ALMIGHTY GOD, and in our LORD and SAVIOUR, JESUS CHRIST 😢
If only man knows how much God loves him and want him to join the chorus of Angels and Saints. Saint Paul in his vission couldn't describe Heaven, but only said the eyes have not seen , the ears have not heard nor has it entered the heart of man what God has prepared for those who love him. Heaven is so beautiful brothers and sisters, let nothing on earth destroyed or distract you from the love of God. The Angels are waiting for us to join the chorus. I Will always praise my God and love him. This hymn is special.
After my graduation from high school I thought I may have a calling to the priesthood so I spent the summer at a european seminary where I discovered God had other plans for me. ; I was accepted into West Point where graduated in the top one percent of my class. I am now a pediatric surgeon. This song was played at both my high school and West Point graduation and is forverer an inspiration in my life.
Holy God, we praise thy name; Lord of all, we bow before thee; all on earth thy scepter claim; all in heaven above adore thee. Infinite thy vast domain; everlasting is thy reign. 2. Hark the glad celestial hymn angel choirs above are raising; cherubim and seraphim, in unceasing chorus praising, fill the heavens with sweet accord: Holy, holy, holy Lord.
It was my mothers favorite hymm. I set it for the offetory at her funeral Mass. I love it as much and yes it does bring tears, not only for memories but for the divine power and truth of God.
If only I could have had a nickel for every time we sang this song in church many years ago, I could have fed the numerous homeless ten time over! It is one of the most reverent songs ever, to praise the good Lord!
Pete Totaro as if you cannot feed the truly hungry in the third world anyway. American church goers can feed millions with all the money they waste on church buildings, big homes, eating out etc.
The German Catholic priest Ignaz Franz wrote the original German lyrics in 1771. It became an inherent part of major Christian ceremonial occasions, mainly as a conclusion song. As a result of the German emigration in the 19th century, the song became known in the United States and was translated to English by Clarence A. Walworth in 1858. I know it from Catholic grade school. I remember when we got to the lyric "Infinite Thy vast domain" the organ would play louder and we would sing much louder. It was always our recessional hymn.
1000 years of Catholic music was tossed out by the ecumenical council of Pope John the 23rd. I used to sing in a boys choir back in the old Latin days and we'd sing anything from Gregorian Chant to this exceptionally beautiful German hymn. Much of the best music was from Germany and Austria. There are a whole other group of exceptional hymns that are to the Blessed Virgin.
To all the people of Iran and to us all in the world. Peace be with you everyone and all in Overthere Iran and to us all over the world. This Gospel song is heartily dedicated to us all. GOD bless us all...
My favorite hymn. My daughter should be born this Tuesday, but I miscarried her. We sung this as mass today, and it brought me to my knees. I love you, Leanora. I can't wait until we can be singing this together to honor our Lord.
Glory be to Thee Almighty God, - and praise and thanksgiving to Thee for giving us composers and singers such as these through whose music we can offer Thee adoration and worship. Bless them O Lord, bless them, and bless those who upload videos such as these who enable us to pray
I sang this song many times in my childhood and younger days. The sound of it just reminds me of a time in my life filled with beautiful memories. Church. School. Good family. Good neighbors. Civility. It makes me want to go back to church but it will never be with the innocence I once experienced.
I invite you to come back to the church!! I’m 18, I recently converted to Catholicism and we sing this beautiful hymn after Eucharistic adoration! It’s beyond beautiful, no matter what stage in life you’re in ❤
Dear Dr. Caprino: I,m so glad to find your comment for the hymn "Holy God, We Praise thy Name" on RU-vid. I'm a catholic living near Seoul, Korea, 78 years old. I served in Korean Army for 15 years, including combat service in Vietnam back in 1965-66. Just as you do, I like this hymn so much that I usually listen to it almost every evening. I also do believe that we human being can be much happier should we recite and appreciate the profound grace of Holy Lord everyday. God bless you.
Before COVID I will visit church and ensure that the song is sang. It reminds me of my grandmother who was very instrumental for my admiration of the hyms🙏
I remember my days in the minor seminary we used to sing this beautiful hymn during adoration to the blessed sacrament. I am filled with Joy and love for God when I listen to it and I go deep in prayers.
I would often hear this coir in my music class at St Josephs school at Coonoor in Tamil Naidu..TFew lines that I remembered after 40 years I searched and found on Google. This is a beautiful video and for me nostalgic
I posted this on another version of this song, but I remember holding my father's hand and singing this song at Stations of the Cross when I was about 5 years old. I am 66 and Lt. Col. W.O. "Frenchy" LaMarre, my dad, who crossed France with the U.S. Army's 5th Armored Division under Gen. Patton, is still the finest man I have ever known. I have missed him every day since he died in 1963, when I was 17, and I especially remember him on this Memorial Day weekend.
THIS GREAT SONG I PLAYED IT AS SOON AS I WAKE UP IN THE MORNING IN PRAYERS WITH GOD ,AS WELL AS come Holy SPIRIT I NEED YOU AND MOEN’sTHANK YOU LORD AND GOD WILL FIND A WAY THEN DAILY TV. ASS
when we were school kids, and we assembled into the church for mass...whether we practiced OR were 'live', we all liked this song above all the others, and really belted it out! No one ever said that it was our favorite, but, we just felt it....and the Nuns LOVED when we sang so loud!:) it's my favorite of all the church hymns! cheers,
YESSSS NOW WE TALKING..I love this so beautiful;..Thank you for sharing this seriously & Thank you !!!..I live by Faith I know my Heavenly Father Is Always W me...you want me to cry this morning 🤗🤗🤗.
Since hearing/seeing this recording for the first time, I have replayed it each morning to start my day. A glorious sound from these singers leads ro my replaying several times throughout the day. Long may it be available.
And still it starts each day for me. I find the enthusiasm, shown on the faces of the singers, adds to the appeal of this hymn. It is also gratifying to hear a strong men''s offering.
Their fabulous chorus is beyond description , and inspirational , specutacular and magnificent , and full of immeasurable admiration and unfathomable emotion , and comfortable to the ear and the mind . From Tokyo of the Land of the Rising Sun 🇯🇵 Listening to this inspirational chorus , I remember the figure of Jesus Christ on the Appia Way .

A beautiful hymn, sung at Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament and on First Fridays and First Saturdays of the month in many churches, including our own. Praised be Jesus Christ in the Most Holy Blessed Sacrament of the Altar!
there is NONE beside Him. someday soon He will somehow bring us His people to meet in the clouds then all they who rather live in hate can have there way, I pray that we will pay more attention to Him seeing as He knows everything even the very hairs on our head are numbered read HIS WORD you will begin to have faith even if you don,t seem to believe. HE will help you I don,t know how but He does HIS WORD is a LAMP unto our paths
Not traditionally (and validly pre-Vatican II) -- "Holy God We Praise Thy Name" is not sung during exposure of the Sacrament -- that's reserved for "O Salutaris Hostia" and "Tantum Ergo". This hymn is in thanksgiving and praise as the recessional for certain.
Beautifully presented. I like the robes--monk / nun-like. Adds a flavor of the sacred. The music provides a finely arranged background, a solid foundation. Thank you!
