oh oh also forgot to mention ~ the heat pad attached at the bottom is not for her, it was for the previous inhabitant and I didn't detach it bc might reuse someday. don't use heat pads on tarantulas d:
@@yungkid7758 ppl usually get away from heat with T's in general. I know ppl from the UK deal with extremely cold houses so they use them sometimes. Ppl in the US tend to use lights (and heat) for the plants in the enclosure, not the T. What's the temperature usually at where u keep ur T's if u don't mind me asking?
If you ever do decide to remove it you can reattach heat mats with foil tape, or heat friendly duct tape! I’ve had to use some already because I had to reposition one and just that made it lose its stick!
Exotic's lair used exoterra, he loves them.. so I think you and bruja be happy with it.. they should sponsor both of yas imo, you (tk) exotic's lair (EL) and dark den (dd) are my fav yt channels hands down!
@@drippinhippie7893 It was a mistake, she's always super careful and caring. I've been following her for a while now and I can guarantee you that she cares for every single of her animals
@@drippinhippie7893 your gonna reap instant karma on yourself from leaving all these negative comments. Better check yourself before it happens to you.
@@drippinhippie7893 Accidentally dropping a piece of cork is NOT negligence. Really hope you’ll get treated better if you have an accident. Your parents must be proud to have such a perfect kid.
My heart dropped a little more with each replay of the cork bark drop. SO GLAD she’s ok! Don’t beat yourself up Kat! It’s all ok. Thank goodness it wasn’t a fatal accident!
I can already tell you will NOT forget that ever and only make a better tarantula momma:) cause I would too!! And showing your mistake is hard and buuuut you will show people things happen even if you've done it for years. Life goes on:)) beautiful tarantula 🥰
This was super helpful to see for me today. I just got my first tarantula and I've been so terrified of making mistakes, and feeling stupid for asking simple questions to groups online, and I've gotten a handful of condescending responses that have made me feel really down today. But this just goes to show that everyone makes mistakes sometimes, no matter how long we've been in the hobby, but in the end the most important thing for us to keep in mind is that the safety of our spiders matters most. Thank you Kat! You've really cheered me up today
@@tarantulamum4322 Amazon has them. Might have to try that, never occurred to me and I have a few, I don't think any of the ones I have are large enough though going to have to get some big ones.
I love ur honesty Kat, you could see you were visibly shaken by the accident but it ended well....... as always huge huggles from Scotland uk 🤗🏴🤗🏴🤗🏴
I said a rude word when the bark dropped in the intro. Thank you for keeping the accident in the video when you could easily have edited it out. I can imagine a jumping spider looking super cute sitting in the doorway of the mushroom house. Definitely needs to be something small enough to fit inside.
Awww Spider Mama! Its ok, everybody & everything thats alive, makes mistakes... Apologies for ur scare tho. Props for NOT editing that part out, As well! Making it educational was a good idea!
Most people would've edited out that mishap. The fact that you left it in there speaks volumes. Everyone makes mistakes, we're all human. You're an absolutely awesome keeper 💜
Ugh. We definitely make mistakes, and I'm so happy she was okay. Good on you for discussing it and potentially preventing another keeper from doing the same with worse consequences. 💖
I thought the exact same thing. By showing it and not editing it out, I know this saved others from making the same mistake. We all think we are being careful and it's things like this that show that as careful as you try to be, there is always that chance. I, for one, have used tongs to remove cork bark and I won't be doing that again. I will take hairs over risking the T's life. :)
Well, it was an accident, stuff happens. I'm glad she is ok, and by being transparent and not editing it out, we get some education about things that can happen. I bet your heart just about jumped out of your chest. lol I accidently knocked a C. versicolor's small enclosure off of a larger one and it went flying nips over teakettle. Luckily the T darted into its web tunnel before it hit the floor so it was kind of cushioned from any hard impact. But I felt terrible. I hope you are feeling better also. :)
Glad she is ok. When I move my big barks I use a long pair of automotive needle nose pliers (never used on engine) just idea for you love the content. I now have 6 Ts in my collection
Glad all is well. I cringe every time I see someone picking up large or awkward objects with their tongs. Glass water bowls anyone? Amirite! 😁 Anyway, as someone suggested, locking hemostats are a good thing to have. Also a long pair of needle nose pliers if you can't find that.
Yeah, I would pick up my plastic water cups and one time I spilled the entire thing on one of my tarantulas because the tweezers decided "yeah good grip isn't my thing"
I just found an aphonopelma hentzi juvenile death curl at my house. I gave it some water & it had a bit more life to it. So I gave it a inclosure & a water dish. So I hope it will survive! 🕷💜
My heart went into my throat, glad everything was ok in the end👍😊 Her new home looks really cool. Where did you get the hat, I must have it😍 Interesting vid as always x
I've had this happen so much that I actually don't pickup anything with decent weight in the enclosure with tongs. U did everything 1000% right but mistakes happen. Remember when Petko did a rehouse and squashed his little T on accident? I felt so bad for him. That's exactly what I thought when I seen this thumbnail. Thank goodness everyone is OK. No worries, just learned a little lesson is all lol. Still smarter than what I do with my T's. I use my hands for everything (except picking them up and feeding them). That's how things REALLY go wrong. No bites for the past 10yrs so guess I'll keep shooting 🎲 with the devil 😆😆😆
Really proud of you for posting this. We’ve all seen your haters and we all know their nasty attitudes. Honestly though it’s true, everyone does make mistakes. Especially when keeping 100+ Tarantulas, you may hurt one on accident someday. But the reality is that all of these animals will probably live longer and fuller lives than they would have in the wild. Wild tarantulas have to face far worse natural disasters, terrifying predators, illnesses, food shortages, bad sheds, etc. and if gd forbid the worst you do is drop a piece of cork on a guy who’s kicking hairs at you I’d say you’re doing a good job. You got this Kat!
My heart jumped into my throat! I'm so glad Bruja is okay! I just used that exact same air plant in a praying mantis enclosure! I'm a new subscriber and I can't wait to dig into your videos bc I just got my first slings (!!!!) after only having grown spiders before.
They should make us some new tongs with grip - it happened to me too and at the moment the earth stopped spinning and I went cold luckily it was a 3d printed hide but the tarantula also moved before it dropped - scary stuff no pumpkins needed.
oh gosh my heart dropped when that cork dropped, that enclosure looks really nice though! I also love the hat! I don't have any rehouses coming up soon so I'll make sure to keep in mind to be careful with cork! EDIT: Also Valentina molted the other day! has the start of her heart butt mark!
Rugrats: Season 3 episode 19.. spike runs away, his parents try getting him a "replacement pet". One of those was a tarantula they "Defanged" so it couldn't bite and I know it's a cartoon but I was genuinely offended. I wonder how many people thought they could get "defanged" spider🙄🙄🙄
To new hobbyists who may watch this: go somewhere else for correct husbandry, not here. Check out Dave's little beasts or toms big spiders. I mean the spider kicks a few hairs and she nearly kills it with the bark.
I use 2 tongs at a time to move stuff from inside the enclosure because my tarantulas have wild feeding responses haha. Brachypelmas are the worst for hair kicking. Idk what is worse honestly, that genus or Nhandus.
@@kennybolt4337 it’s more that they lace their entire enclosure in hairs to deter predators.. that combined with popular belief (well earned) that they are the the worst. You will never forget the day you get haired 😁
Have you tried surgical forceps? They have various ends, usually with textured teeth for gripping and you can hold on to things gently or very tightly with the scissors-style handles or even lock them onto things.. They might be safer than tongs for maneuvers like this. Thank you for sharing this, we all make mistakes. Glad your girl is okay! 🕷️❤️
I want to recommend you a method to rehouse such a hair kicking tarantula. Instead of having to move it use the water sprayer and use it over the T, I used it once in my Auratum and they dont flick hairs in that way, because they detect that water as rain and they will just move to the other side, its pretty effective
@whatacuteTae yes, an autatum can be pretty skitish during the rehouse. Moving them can cause them to kick hairs and get nervous, so what I do is gently splaying water behind it. Tarantulas have an instinct to avoid water and rain, so instead of flicking hairs they just move to find cover somewhere else
Hi Kat! Yeah that was scary. I was a little worried when I saw the giant gloves 🧤 on your little hands - 😳 Anyway , glad all is well and that you are honest with your followers.
Thank you for showing us when mistakes happen, it is such a testament to you as a keeper, I love that you keep things real.😊 I'm glad she's okay, and I'm glad you're such a passionate pet owner.
I have never had a phormictopus but I really like a few. Tom Moran just posted a video unboxing some new species, made me want some. He has great videos featuring them 😍
Don’t feel bad, I’ve done this and my lil one was okay. I felt so bad but it was accidental 😢 wasn’t a huge piece of cork bark but shit. Thank god it’s not super heavy bark.
Hi Kat..I'm a big fan of your channel. As I was watching this particular video, you relayed a message that you felt really bad about how you dropped the piece of wood accidentally on your pet tarantula. You said that you wanted to be completely honest about this incident. Immediately, I thought about this question I have for you. Have you ever considered or thought about Where YOU Will Spend your ETERNITY after you die? Have you ever thought about approaching Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in the same way, being completely transparent and honest with him about your sin and his salvation that He offers sinners? He is The Only One that can forgive All Sin and save you from the doom of hell and the Lake Of Fire that's prepared for the devil and his angels as well as unforgiven sinners. Please seek Him while He can STILL be found. I'll pray for you also if you would like?
A tarantula with quick reflexes... Did you see how quick her legs flattened down .... would not have been able to see her do that if it wasn't in slo-mo .... She's a keeper LOL 😁 .... Good learning experience video everyone has their moments thanks for sharing!!! 😊🕷🕸🕷
@@tarantulakat I completely AGREE!! .... I forgot to mention that her enclosure looks GREAT even without the pumpkin it would have given it a little extra but honestly I think she already gives it that EXTRA!! ✨✨✨🕷🕷🕷🕸🕷
oh Im glad spider was ok the sinking feeling you get when you mess up like that is horrible also I would say yep dont pick up big things w tweezers but better still just scoop the spider straight to the new enclosure and dismantle the old one after, spider safely out. she didnt even bolt when you dropped the cork so Im sure you could have caught her with the plastic box and paintbrush without moving it
I ended up losing my 1.5 inch c. Versicolour during a rehouse for a bit, she dissapeared for about 10 seconds and after vigorous looking i saw her on my hoodie string 😂
I've had 2 mishaps with my Hapalopus sp columbia (large) pumpkin patch sling. First one was when I was attempting to feed it in it's 50 dram vial. I looked down to talk to my cat (yes, I talk to her) and accidentally smacked the enclosure with my tongs. The enclosure flew off the shelf 4 feet down to the floor. I expected to see a sling with an exploded abdomen. But I had to dump the substrate out before I found it, and it was walking around like nothing happened. The 2nd time was when I was holding up it's current enclosure, a small temporary betta tank. I was holding it by the handle on the top when the lid popped off. Again I freaked out, but after a few minutes I saw the tarantula walking around on the floor. I then put it in a temporary container while rearranged it's enclosure.
Oh sweetie!! Don’t feel guilty about an accident!!! It was an accident and you know this kind of thing just happens! We all know how much you love your Ts and the most important thing is that the tarantula is ok! So, forget about it and just go ahead! You made a wonderful enclosure for her, maybe one of most beautiful seen so far! Much much love to you and your stunning tarantulas ❤️🕷 You are THE BEST ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🖤🤍
Oh my gosh, my heart stopped, I'm glad she's OK. It's awful when you accidentally hurt your babies, the amount of times I've kicked or tripped over my kitties because they sneak behind and through my legs as I am walking, proper scissor effect as they're trapped between each ankle, I feel awful after. Like I say, so glad she's OK though. You didn't look out of focus either 💜
I know that was scary for you on almost killing your tarantula, but would it be better if you put her in a small container and then take and put her in the new new one instead of moving all the stuff out while she's in the old one? That might work better for you. I don't know. I don't ever had tarantula so I don't don't know what I'm talking about I guess. But I like your videos
Idk if this is because my tarantulas don't bolt or kick hair easily but I would have just grabbed the wood with my hands. But kudos to you for still posting this and acknowledging that mistakes can happen at any time.
I use a heat pad but I keep it a good distance away,I only use it in winter for my T lives in the basement and it gets cold like 40° and has been lower but the enclosure stays around 70-75,also thanks for all the great info on Ts and care form them
Just watched the cork bark almost fall on the tarantula! Listened to your explanation of how that happened and I find your clarity extremely helpful. That is definitely an accident I would want to avoid! So thank you for sharing.
Hey Kat! Did you see the new arrival tarantula enclosures for aboreal T’s at tarantula cribs? The “clear edition” how much more transparent do you think it is compared to the regular treehouse enclosures?
I can’t image what Broha thought. So scared! Hope she is okay. She might like some moss to keep moisture in without wetness. I suggest you watch Dave’s Little Beasties. That guy is a guru.
Thankfully ive never done this but im definitely aware of it now. However my first time handling my tarantula got on my back, i was so terrified i would hurt it and i ended up taking my shirt of gently and scooping them back into their enclosure i was so terrified and felt like shit for weeks. I handle rarely, make sure its somewhere where they cant escape, and have another person around… Making mistakes is part of it as long as you learn, i still feel bad about that though my poor dude didnt deserve my stupidity back then…
I've seen this happen on soo many channels you can never be too careful. Invest in a pair of "longlockers" it's adjustable vicegrips and they will save your Ts as well as make your life easier.
Kat just have to say how much I enjoy your videos. I am a 70 yo guy and have had a fear of spiders my whole life. Whenever I would see someone holding a T, I would say Helllllllll NO and Yuch!!!! Could not understand why anyone would want one. About a month ago I just stumbled on a video from Exotics Lair and before I knew it was watching his and looking for others and found yours. I had no idea about the colors and patterns on the various Tarantulas or how easy they are to keep. So interesting to observe their habits and behaviors. Now I hear myself saying all the time....WOW...What a beautiful F*&K%$G spider. It is hard to believe but I actually would like to have one. Unfortunately wifey says NO. Lol. Talked her into lots of stuff over the years but don't think it will work this time. Keep it up.
Thanks from learning from your mistakes!! I think i will use tongs for this in the future but from now i will not go over my Tarantula again so it should be save!! It is very difficult to grab such large pieces with only one tong so maybe its a good idea to take a second one or something like a spoon to help liften it up so u must not grab the hole piece only wiht the tongs! Thank u very much for your videos!!!
I know this is a year later but thank you for posting this. I jus got my first couple tarantulas and an terrified of doing something wrong it’s good to see not everyone is perfect and it works out ok. I’m glad urs was fine
I accidentally gave my cat too much of her antibiotics yesterday and had to spend 65 dollars on an animal poison control call. 🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦 it happens to the best of us girl
I have to be honest, when tarantula's kick hairs it scares me a ton so I probably would of got scared and accidentally did that too T.T. I'm glad shes ok!
One of my worst fears with my babies. Thank you for leaving that in your video. It makes me a little less nervous and accidentally smooshing them when re-housing. I’m glad Bruja is ok, she’s beautiful.
