Here is a very tight backing maneuver while delivering chicken to the Portland public school district. This place was not meant for a 53 foot trailer.
Will aka "Lil Dawg" is an American truck driver. After serving in the US Navy and a stint of odd jobs he was led down the path he knew he'd always follow, one his grandfather walked some 50 years ago. Becoming a truck driver, a guardian of the highway and professional freight relocation specialist! Enjoy the ride and get some laughs along the way.

Thank for the comments... what you all can't see is the wall directly to the front of the truck and street i cam in off of. Had i shown more angles you'd see the roll off dumpster, the box trucks, stacks of pallets and all the shit that everyone before me hit. If you'd like to see the interior of the building/parking structure and loading dock i was in then check out the street view on google. If i really had a lot of room do you think i would have setup on a 90? NO i wouldn't have.

Lil Dawg it's funny because the roll off dumpsters are what I pick up and sometimes you have to get into these dumb angles to back to them
@OverKillPlusOne
@OverKillPlusOne 6 лет назад
YEah some people think as a driver that we'll pick the hard way...yeah right, we're lazy lol. Sometimes the easiest way is a ridiculously tight 90* through 2-3 bays! Does a driver want to do it that way? No, never. But that's sometimes the way the job has to get done.

There a place in buffalo ny that I deliver to which you've to pull across the street from, back across the street get your trailer started in the overhead door stop crawl under the trailer open your doors back into the building. Once you hit the dock crawl back under the trailer get the orange cones put them in front of your truck,because your truck and 1/4 of your trailer is outside the building. Then crawl back under the trailer to take your paperwork in . Once you're done then you repeat the same stuff leaving. When backing in you only have2-3 inches of space on either side of your trailer. It's very tight and it's been that way for yrs. If you have an older 48ft trailer it's a little bit easier cuz they aren't as wide as an 53ft trailer.

another uneventful back in. Great Job... unless you were supposed to be in door 6, lol. The best drivers are the ones who make it look easy and when you try it, you know they have decades more skill than you do. I drove for 42 years and have been told more than once "you can't put a big trailer in that spot" . Yes, I did. There were a few where I looked at and agreed with them.

Good job lil dawg..... As a guy that loads and unloads trucks I see them back into my dock every day. We literally have made it as easy as u could imagine to back into our dock, pull forward 80 ft of room and back the thing up inside the lines right...... You'd be amazed how many idiot truckers can't simply back up in a straight line. good job dude! I subscribed

@craig_sez8534

As a suggestion...Lock some vise grips on your trailer wheel pin locks valve...That way you can get rid of some tail swing by being able to move trl wheels without gettin out to pull the valve to release the lock pins..Allows you to move trl wheels up and down its sliders and help pivot it in easier...

That was some nice backing. I can't tell what was up front on right side of tractor for head room, but if I had enough head room, right when your first axle passed the left corner reference cement wall step if u will, I would of turn it a little sooner depending on if u had it at an angle already, in order for my tail not to come so close to the corner cement Pole on your blind side while spinning the trailer around to catch up with it after it spin pass both corner of walls on both sides of trailer. But again I couldn't see the hole layout from head to toe, so I can't say officially what I would of done had I seen it all. But good job driver, keep up the good work.

Some of the places they send me are almost impossible to get into and that's in a day cab. One place I deliver has one small dock in the back and once I get in a fleet of vans come park in front while they take 4 hours to unload. Can only think about leaving once all the vans left.

I would have fired your rookie rear on the spot! Dragging & sliding those trailer axles with a heavy grocery load. I bet you now ask yourself "why does my trailer not ride in a straight line with my truck". Lol
@anthonychincholl5721
@anthonychincholl5721 6 лет назад
If he wouldn't suck his trailer axle all the way up he'd been able to slide right into that second dock. I've been in alley docks ment for 35' trucks, in building docks where there's a wall less than 50' in front of truck when it's tight to the dock. Or docks where you have to dig one corner of trailer into the dock and push front of trailer to get lined up to dock. When your in a 145" wheel based cab over and Jack knifed in the dock, it's a tight dock.

Good job driver. I've seen drivers do horrible backing with more than enough room. I'm talking about enough room to damn near position your truck to do a straight back in. On top of that...somehow they still manage to almost hit me when I'm four car lengths ahead of them on a bright white golf cart with a flashing light.

ah the turning on a dime of the Volvo. Give ya bit of advice here, If your backing into a building like that, Put your tandoms in the far rear. You dont have to worry about the over hang in the back, and the trailer will go right where the driver side rear is. . Good job though, any back with out hitting anything is a good back. .

city drivers learn a city full of stops and how approach the dock, and most city trucks are single axle day cabs with about 28 feet of trailer. You have an entirely different environment to work with in critically important ways. Robby, everthing your truck delivers was probably brught in on a sleepered truck pulling a 53 that hit the same dock you do.
