been here about 2 years ago and said the same thing.. also think i have a comment round here somewhere, but now it's been 2 years and i can play it so keep practicing guys :D
I actually got this song in 2 weeks and I'm not even a good guitarist. I find Megadeth's song easy, I'm having a hard time with Metallica's songs for some reason
Absolutely not, playing with feel and dynamics is much more harder than playing holy wars. Once you get grip on the riff it becomes easier. The solo is fast but its not impossible to learn.
What a machine you are man... Every song that i want to play, there you are showing me how to do it... I am very happy to have found you. Thanks for your work!!!!!!!!!
I'm 42 years old, started playing guitar 6 months ago and want to say thank you for your videos. You've provided valuable insight into many riffs I'm trying to learn.
How are you doing? I am 10 months in and I was able to do this quickly cus I do play everyday the best addicition ever, so I guess you are doing great too
Bro you are the best teacher. I started my journey watching your videos and now I shred. Thanks to your teachings brother! I appreciate all the time and effort you put in and when I make it in music I’ll be sure to tell everyone about you g. Keep shredding every single day!!
Back in 2007, this was the first song I learned to play. Out the gate. on a cheap Mexican acoustic w nylon strings. If you can play Megadeth at the beginner stage, you'll thank yourself later. TRUST ME
Cool story bro. So you just picked up a guitar without any previous experience, not learning any basic skills, to then learn Holy Wars? Unless you're some kind of prodigy that's just NOT HAPPENING.
@@zjah1 Of all songs to use as a BS story... I grew in the 80s, I learned by listening to/ rewinding× 10000 times cassettes like Iron Maiden, Metallica. But it took like almost 2 yrs before I could attempt anything like Holy Wars.
I think after the first hammer-on in second riff (5h7 on A) there are 3 alternate strokes instead of 4, same thing after first of two hammer ons after 10-7 pull-off Great lesson, thanks!
@@charleskeller3233 nope! Here's Dave giving a lesson of the song, you clearly hear it's "duh-na chugga chunk " after the first hammer on. That's why this lesson sounds off in that part. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-l8eV1zLDj0Q.html
@@charleskeller3233 here's another lesson played correctly, you can hear ho much smoother it sounds, there isn't room for the 4th note. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IADknFqTWsU.html
There's some small mistake: E notes in main riff are not all 16th, couple of them are actually 8th if you listen to the song carefully (you feel them like small pause). One is the 3rd E note after 5 to 7 fret hammer on A string (just before 10 to 7 fret pull off) and the second one is before the 2nd 5 to 7 fret hammer on when they're played twice in a row. That makes riff feel more gallopy and it's actually a bit easier to play so you don't lose control.
youre right and this shit is driving me crazy. I tried to learn it with all 16th but when you slow down the megadeth video you can hear its 5-7 000 10-7 0000 0000 5-7 000 5-7 0000. what gets me is the part with the 8 e notes before the 5-7 hammer I always get caught up in the string or when I try to play at speed I end up playing only 5 es. AAAAAAAAh its driving me insane Ive been at it for 3 weeks and its really kicking my ass.
it SHOULD be easier to play but I feel like its almost easier to just play straight 16ths its more fluid. but its impossible to play 16th at speed and stay clean lol fuck you dave for torturing me like this.
Yeah but it's conveniently placed at the end of the beat, which makes it easier to to play the 3rd E note as a 16th and leave the other 16th as a pause (which is what an eighth note is anyways)
these are so great! thank you for posting these! i’ve made a playlist of some of your videos and it’s helping me knock off layers of rust while learning how to play parts i could’nt figure out
I will say you can use mustaines spider technique when you're doing those quick power chord changes on different strings. For example when use your middle and pinkie to finger that f5 chord on the a and d strings then you just use your index and ring fingers to grab the b5 chord on the low e and a stings. You don't have to shift hand positions or try and jump strings. Sounds cleaner as well. Mustaine actually does a video about it I think in a guitar world column. As usual Carl excellent lesson. To quote judge smells "top notch top notch."
for songs like these I feel like I do better when I try first try and fail completely, then come back a few weeks later and it just instantly clicks. Is this just me?
Man Ive only been playing for 1 year and sheeesh this song is hard,I got the intro down, just need to clean it up. I downpick as well so its probably twice as hard for me,might have to come back to it
Bigkidstudios23 The hard part of this song is the verse. I just practiced this song very slow till I could work at the speed, eventually it’s not even that hard.
It will take some time, and I thought the same thing, but 2 1/2 years ago I decided to pick the guitar that had been sitting in my basement and dedicated myself to playing and practicing everyday, even if its just 5 minutes. I started with Justin Guitar's beginner's course and have only seen improvement. So many great teachers online, Carl Brown, Justin Sandercoe, Marty Schwartz, Eric Blackmon, Mike from Art of Guitar among others.
If anyone is still reading this, when you're playing the riff at 4:29, right after the 10-7 pull of, do you start the 0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0 alternate picking sequence with a down stroke or an up stroke? When I play at 75% speed, it doesn't matter, but when I try it at 100%, If I start with a downstroke, I find it hard to transition from the last upstroke to the next 5-7 hammer on. I have to skip over the E string, and I just don't have enough time to do it. However when I start with an upstroke, I don't have the transition problem, but then I have to concentrate real hard to remember to start with an upstroke.
adrian I started about 4 months ago and I do the whole song without the solos... I may be playing at least 2 hours a day too... If you just practice you will do it in no time
I have been a guitarist for years, and consider myself intermediate. I never challange myself to songs this hard. But recently I started doing a few Lamb of God songs and started this beast. This one beats all others for a challange.
THANK YOU so much CARL. I want to donate money to you because I've learned alot of my favorite songs on guitar because of you. YOU ARE AWESOME ASF!!!!!
Imma try and learn this bitch so I can get better at alternate picking. I already learned Lucretia which is such a fun song to play! It’s a little fast for me at the moment but I can tell I improved thanks to Megadeth!🤘🏼
Thank you for the NO BULLSHIT lesson. There are way too many blabber mouths who want to show off or talk about themselves more than show what we came to learn. Cheers man!
Hey Carl. I know this video was posted forever ago, but I was wondering if you could do a lesson for the song "Kick the Chair" by Megadeth. I'm struggling with getting the main riff right, and I could use some pointers from a pro like you. If you could find a way to put this song on your ever changing list of songs to teach, I would definitely appreciate it. Thank you.
Don’t take this personally because this is great that you did this video but nobody EVER gets this one important nuance correct. Forgetting the actual notes which can distract from the picking rhythm, the intro actually goes thusly: Dun-ah chugga CHUCK (rest) Dan-uh chugga chugga chugga chugga Dun-ah chugga CHUCK, (rest) Dun-ah chugga chugga Braowm Braowm Whereas your instructions go: Dun-ah chugga chugga Dan-uh chugga chugga chugga chugga Dun-ah chugga chugga Dun-ah chugga chugga Braowm Braown 😂
I love your videos, you make them very easy to follow. Can you post you amp settings? I am new to the guitar world and have a hard time getting close to the sound. Thank you again
