Every Sunday during Lent, and every day during Semana Santa (or Holy Week), there are elaborate and beautiful processions through the streets of Antigua, Guatemala. The streets are carpeted with gorgeous alfombras made of brightly colored sawdust, wood chips, leaves, flowers, pine needles, fruits, and vegetables, which are destroyed as the procession passes over them.
