I finally made it up to Holyoke MA to hear the famous HOR Super Sirex on top of the caboose at The Wherehouse? (yes it's spelled with a question mark) banquet hall. This siren was once one of the City of Holyoke's air raid sirens and was purchased by the owner of The Wherehouse? in the mid 90's and sounds every Friday at noon in alert mode. This was the loudest siren I've personally heard in a long time. I shot this from across the canal in the Whiting Oil/Taft power equipment parking lot. Listen at around the 6:14 mark for a trucker who was eating his lunch right next to me ask one of the guys at Taft about the siren which surprised him.

I was lucky enough to catch it going off last Friday at noon I recorded it on my iPhone I was standing across the canal at the skate park and believe me even there it still hurt my ears but I managed to catch the wind up most of the tone and then the wind down I’ve lived in Holyoke for 4 years and never got to see it in person until last Friday January 10th

Lily: the siren is located on a caboose at The Wherehouse? banquet hall on Lyman St. It's in an old industrial/ghetto area (typical inner city setting). The siren can be heard all over Holyoke.

Ahhh, and yeah I'm wondering the same thing. I think it's hooked to the original controller but not sure. If only it rotated and had sounded attack it would beyond awesome. Next time I go and someone is there I wanna find out more about it. I read in a newspaper article it came off fire station #2 and was purchased by the Wherehouse in 1997.

Shoulda told me you were going there! Glad to see it still sounds strong. Haven't heard in well over a year. I'm think it's on a timer because it always goes off for exactly 3 minutes to the second.

This was a spur of the moment trip, if I had planned it out ahead of time, I would have told you. That thing had quite a punch to it even from that lot. I think you're right about it being on a timer as no one was at The Wherehouse?, I wonder if it's the original timer or an aftermarket one and if it could do attack (wishful thinking).

For grins. I suspect Fridays at noon was the City of Holyoke's siren test day when they had their CD system and owner of The Wherehouse? wanted to keep that tradition alive when he put this siren up. The city no longer has a siren system.

why dose the rotater not work
@Federal3t22

Lee U it was never hooked back up when it was rebuilt. There's no need for it to rotate as it's just a working display and can be heard through out Holyoke no problem.

Kimq2006 The RU-vidr there's nothing ACA on this siren. This was manufactured by HOR in the 1940's long before the ACA Screamer series came out. This is a dual 9 port siren hence why it sounds like a Screamer.
