When you are done milling, let your saw idle for a while and give it time to cool down. Nice work!

Thing sucked down basically a whole tank in one cut…

Hi, just curious, what size bar are you running and are you using a ripping chain or just a standard chain? Also, how is the Holzforma holding up ? I just got one of these mills and was considering getting a bigger saw than my Husky Rancher and was considering the G660 for some of the bigger wood. Thanks for sharing the video of this.

Hey! My bad, I didn't see your question. I'm running a 36" bar on it with a dedicated ripping chain on it. I believe it can run up to a 52" bar, but i could be wrong in that, and it may be a hair shorter for max length. The saw was running great up til I put it away for the winter. There's a fantastic video on initial setup from Just Send It Saws here on RU-vid. With that tutorial and his tips on breaking it in, it's running as well as any Stihl I've ever used :)

Hey nice vid what kind of wood was that, it cut through pretty easily. Thanks for sharing, did you make anything nice out of the slabs?

Thanks! It's spalted rock maple, and it's still drying. I should take them to a kiln, tho, since there are *definitely* larva in it lol

@@dogsoupblues there are some YT vids on building kilns. My chainsaw is a JC5800 and can barely get thru oak when I tried to mill with it. We have a homestead with a lot of nice trees and so many fall during storms and we would like to mill them but looking for the right saw to use that isn’t going to break the bank. Was checking out the Farmtec blue 660 and found your video.

@@hollyr8788 I've been mulling over building a solar kiln, but if I did at my land, I'm afraid it'd get raided by someone 😞 perhaps a baseless worry, but still. But if I do decide to build one, I'll try and record my progress. As to the chainsaw, man, best value for money I've spent. The power that they put out, the fit and even the finish, and for, as of this comment, at ~$260, is nuts. And, as far as I know, *everything* is a direct clone of the Stihl MS660, so if you replace things as they wear/break, you might end up with a complete genuine article 😁 I did have to buy the bar and chain, but I actually didn't mind. I didn't have to be disappointed by a stock chain, and I got what I needed: a dedicated ripping chain. And to top it off, the mill is a knock-off Amazon one that was dirt cheap, so maybe two wrongs make a right? 😂😂

@@hollyr8788 also, this is a much bigger saw than the 5800. If you do get the G660, there used to be an amazing video by Just Send It Saws here on YT. It was like an hour long, but he showed, in real time, how he sets these saws up before first run, to ensure they're prepped to run best for the long haul for his customers. I looked for it and couldn't find it anymore, but basically, he took the muffler cover off, got access to the top of the motor, and the front cover removed, and torqued the screws down. He checked them all for loctite, and if they skimped on it, he'd apply some and torque them back down. After that, you have to break it in on first run, and there's several vids on that 😉

@@hollyr8788 can't go wrong with the 660 or any of those 65+ cc saws. Just go through it and double check everything and run a good quality oil don't cheap out on the oil. As far as chains go a granberg ripping chain will give you the best Finnish or a full chisel chain filed to 0° will give you a good Finnish as well. Semi chisel will leave washboard looking marks, I don't mind the marks because I put everything together rough cut and it doesn't get much more rough 😅

Ported or just tuned right?

Just tuned 😀 I think I got lucky on it, too, in that I really didn't have to adjust much. I followed the teardown/reassembly steps Just Send It Saws showed in their video, and it worked great!

How's the saw holding up?

I haven't been able to take it out recently due to the snow, but for the remainder of the summer and into fall, it ran like a champ! I'll try to follow up in spring when I can bring it out and run it some more 😀
