Home Assistant LG WebOS TV Integration - Buttons

The following tutorial video will take you through how to utilise the WebOS TV Service Call for the Button function so that you can send simulated LG Remote button presses direct from Home Assistant. These can then be built into complex scripted schedules that can be used to control your LG TV for any actions that can be done on your LG remote.
UPDATE: As WebOS is licenced to other manufacturers, this integration will work with those also.

Thanks , worked well. I'd only add that after adding the wake_on_lan: command to the configuration.yaml then you need to do a full restart of home assistant before you can see the Wake on LAN: Send magic packet service.👍

@@smart_home_australia May I suggest either editing the video to add the restart requirement or pin the comment above at the beginning of the comments. I was very frustrated trying to follow as I am still learning Home Assistant and none of this comes easy to me so following videos is best way for me to learn. I have 4 LG TVs and trying to incorporate them into my HA and I've watched a few of your videos and I appreciate there are people such as yourself out there doing this so thank you.

Hello Sir. Since you have done videos on both the LG WebOS integration and the Broadlink remote, you're the man for this question. Have you been able to get the LG (magic) RF remote, which I assume you have from this video, to work with the Broadlink (specifically the RM4 Pro with RF capability)? I can only successfully run the learn_command service for the power button, and that only works in IR mode even though the LG remote is RF. It seems that the two simply do not work together, so I wanted to see if you had success with this. Thanks.
@smart_home_australia
@smart_home_australia 9 месяцев назад
Thats a GREAT QUESTION, the LG (Magic) remote is a unique remote in that it continually sends IR commands to the TV for the position and movement of the pointer, it's greatest strength but also its greatest weakness for people that want to "learn" commands. This is why I put out the "LG button video" as you can send out the specific commands that you want to emulate and hence bypass the requirement for the learning of commands. Check out the LG WobOS TV Integration (www.home-assistant.io/integrations/webostv/) and you can see the commands that you can send direct. Hopefully that is of help. SHA

Great vid as always ! Quick question, lets say I have an LG TV with a Sony sound bar / system. Can I play audio through the Sony sound system using LG's WebOS integration in HA ?
@smart_home_australia
@smart_home_australia 8 месяцев назад
Hi @AbdoZaInsert, yes of course as long as your TV is set to direct out put to the sound bar. I use a Sonos sound system on my HDMI CEC socket and the TV is set you send the sound to HMDI and it works perfectly.

I tried testing the script and and both configurations worked for my TV? Maybe it was something specific to yours, mine is a 2019 model year.
@smart_home_australia
@smart_home_australia Месяц назад
The LG I used for the testing was a 2019 model also. I had upgraded the firmware to the latest supported version. Apart from that it’s just a standard middle of the range model. So should work. I’m looking at an upgrade this year, if it’s an LG then expect a new video 🤞

Thanks for the video and explanation!! Is there any possibility to use this method to configure in such a way that once the tv turns on to automatically connect to a bluetooth speaker? Like an automation that once it detects that tv is on to use the wbtv.button integration to automatically navigate in the menu to connect to the bt speaker. I asking this because i could not think of any other possible way to do this, and there are many people around the internet looking for a solution to auto connect bt devices on startups. Thanks.
@smart_home_australia
@smart_home_australia 4 месяца назад
Now that's an interesting proposition. In short, YES I believe so. I do a similar thing, when HA detects the TV has turned on it turns on the TV backlights (that run HyperHDR) and sets the colour style accordingly. So since you can send button presses then you should be able to do the connection to a Bluetooth source. However, it would be pretty slow and some of the startup actions are not fixed time so it really would need tuning to get the result.
@DiscontinuedAccounts

Just to a simple google search and you'll find people on reddit and LG related forums complaining and looking for a solution on this mater - not necessarily through HA but since I'm a HA user I wouldn't mind this integration. Maybe you could consider this or a similar topic as one of your future videos! I'd definitely watch it.
@smart_home_australia

I'll put it on the "look in" list, its definitely something that should be there. Maybe an integration request. If enough people ask for it I'm sure the developer would consider it.

Hello Sir, as I am still configuring my home gear with home assistant, I watch and enjoy your videos, big congrats once again. I just have one question, I am sorry to disturb but I have been looking at both documentations and HA forums, vainly, did not get the answer : Is there a way to automate the combination of the scripts you explained in this video : let's say I have RU-vid app as third app starting from the left in my LG TV menu. I would like to be able able to ask ""Alexa, turn on RU-vid on LG tv". For this, I would need to be able to automate wakeonlan + home+ right+ right+enter. Do you have an idea please ? Thanks a lot.

Hi @user-qz6bb5bz6j, before a launch into the how ... can I ask if your TV is relatively recent, run WobOS and "smart" with integrated NetFlex?

Yes I do have integrations woostv installed on my Home Assistant instance
@smart_home_australia
@smart_home_australia 8 месяцев назад
Excellent. OK. Well turning on the TV should be simple enough with the WOL service call the was described in the video. You can start your script with that. Then to move to Netflix you can either use the navigation option with button presses. But this is slow and take some time to configure with multiple calls. Alternatively the quickest way is to call Media player: Select source and select your media source from the list available, in your case "RU-vid". You might also like to set the volume using Media player: Set volume, service. I also turn on my TV ambient lighting at the same time, works a treat.

@@smart_home_australia Yes I saw the remote video and will probably give it a go thanks for that. For the moment I ended up using the grid card populated with two conditional cards: The Turn On Button Card and The media player card. The Turn On Button card is displayed if the tv state is off and the media card is displayed if it is on.

Would wake-on-lan work as well on Wifi?
@smart_home_australia
@smart_home_australia 9 месяцев назад
Simple answer, YES. WOL (Wake on LAN) sends whats known as a "Magic Packet" to the device. So as long as it is configured to allow WOL then it should work.
@LoznOz
@LoznOz 9 месяцев назад
Hi@@smart_home_australia , unfortunately my experience with LAN (eithernet) connected LG TV is it just doesn't work (ie doesnt turn on the TV). The WOL settings all double checked, HA logs indicate the WOL ommand was sent byt TV stays off. (other test example keys work once TV is on). I'll try with WiFi just to cross check, as a search on the topic indicates this was / is a problem, though not for all. One thread suggested turning off LG 'Fast Startup', tried that too without luck. If anybody knows a work around im all ears.

Think I may have resolved it - just tested & working (TV on from HA) what I changed whilst delving into setting on TV under general, is a setting Mobile TV on (it was off) - somewhat obvious once I discovered it it states ‘enable other devices and apps to turn on your TV using your network.” 🤣

Hi @mohamedfarhanal-subaey1670, if you don't have LG Connect on your TV then the only way of controlling it that I'm aware of is via an IR blaster. I'd recommend using the LinknLink eHub (video - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mTBbWl7Ingg.html) or the Broadlink RM Pro (video - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SjHrHKOUK70.html).
