Life in a foreign country can be both rewarding and challenging, and I believe this topic needs to be explored more considering the global world that we live in now. This episode is a kickoff to a series of conversations we will be having to discuss this topic - Home Away from Home. I am joined by two of my friends - Sanya and Filip, who like me are also foreigners in Slovakia. This episode is a lighthearted account of our journeys so far. What makes it even more special is the fact that the production of this video was completely bootstrapped by us. From using whatever equipment, we could gather - personal or borrowed cameras, mics etc, with our self-taught recording skills, and my terrace being the video shoot location #foreigner #culture #slovakia #india #nigera #serbia #lifeineurope

Slovak is a very difficult language, so I have a lot of respect for foreigners who do their best to speak it. I`m Slovak, living in Japan for 10 years now, and I`ve met so many foreigners who even after years of living in Japan make no effort whatsoever to learn the language because they get by on English. Me personally I wouldn`t be comfortable with that, because so much of the country and the culture stais closed to you, if you don`T speak the language. When I first went to a Jp bookshop and saw all the books I could read now, it felt like a whole new world opened up in front of me. Like I unlocked a new level in a game :D On the topic of home, for me it`s strange because I`ll never fit in in Japan as somebody who isn`t Asian. I`m ok with that to an extend, being an outsider also has it`s advantages, like Japanese people don`t hold you up to the same standard when you have to do stupid things at work and such :P But On the other hand the longer I`m away from Slovakia, the less I feel "at home" there. Mainly because the world just doesn`t stand still while I`m gone. My family and friends all go on with their lives. Things change, places change and the Slovakia I knew is only in my memories, so it`s bittersweet... I`m pregnant now with my first child, and we`re gonna live in Japan for the forseeable future, so I`m curious as to how everything might change again...

Diana, thank you for sharing your thoughts and reflections. and yes, I can relate to the 'depleting feeling of home' when you are away from your motherland for a long time. But an integral part of your personality is the culture and values you grew up with and you carry that wherever you go. So, you will always carry your own little Slovakia with you in Japan, just like I have carried India in me, in Slovakia :-) . Congratulations on your pregnancy!! The topic of raising children in a foreign country is actually a topic we will be discussing in our next episodes. Stay tuned! :-)

日本語ぺらぺら?やっぱ バリバリスロバキア系なのにスロバキア語を喋る時にピンとこない時が多すぎw

I enjoyed the video. But "Slovakian" is an improper adjective. It's "Slovak"

Like always Indian very well prepared and presented. You rather should be a main TV channel presenter than just youtuber. But as I already mentioned and my fellow jewish friends are saying .. if we need to be careful , it is only about Indians as they are only group when they are abroad which overperform even jews.

Private tutors are good but classes provided by Urad Práce and other government agencies are useless. My girlfriend is foreign and those lessons were waste of time. Slovak is very hard language and cannot be learned in 10 lessons. If someone wants to learn the language it takes about a year or more.
