Join us for this video as we upgrade a property with a pre-existing home battery but no solar panels. We install a solar array and review the data of the panel generation over the weeks after the install, so that you can see how the system performs and answer the question... Does solar live up to expectations and is it worth the money?
We also encounter a huge issue with the install when we discover that the property had no scaffolding... Watch along to find out what happened and see how we got on 👀

I would have covered the NW roof with panels as well. I've evidenced that this is more than worthwhile on my channel.

Hi, thanks for commenting. We have a video coming to the channel with a full north installation using the Fusion2 panel, supported by batteries. Subscribed to your channel too, keep the content coming!

Great videos, I've learnt loads from you, Artisan and UpsideDownFork. I would like to cover my house in solar as a first step, then get a battery later. just need to save up for it first, will definetely look to use you guys

Doing a great job informing people about solar, along with a few other channels. The combination of Rea panels, microinverters and the GivEnergy AIO is one option that i'm looking at for my install after i move house. Your estimator used to show the AIO as an option for my area (Bristol) but now doesn't. Is that a lack of available GivEnergy installers in my area, and if so, is this likely to change in the coming months? Thanks

Hey Joe, thanks for your comment! There shouldn't be a problem fitting an All in One in your area. If you speak to our team they can put this through manually :)

This was really helpful. Exactly what I am thinking I will be doing. I like what I hear about GivEnergy and to have the option to pair with the REA panels on a modular basis is great. Ridge runs almost exactly N-S. but eastern pitch receives direct sunlight later than 5pm at this time of year. Winter sun is low of course and there are shading trees on the west side. I would love to engage an IMPARTIAL consultant to advise but they don’t seem to be a thing. I have a ton of questions about what I think is a challenging site. And I don’t know what I don’t know although discovering more all the time, e.g. some batteries make a noise, some don’t. Some heat and cool themselves making for a safe external fitment. And I guess the products and innovations are happening constantly.

Hey Francis, thanks for your comment. We try to remain as impartial as possible in initial conversations and only advise on what we think works best based off of what you want for your property. Each set up that we do is different and is tailored around a clients needs. Feel free to reach out to our solar team to get some advise or have some questions answered🙂

@@Heatable thanks. I have already been in touch. I’m not going to rush into anything. Except I currently need a car charger that works with intelligent go, and that’s in hand.

Is the GivEnergy Gateway only single phase or is there a three phase version?
@Heatable

Hi Mark, it's currently only single phase.

Do you install and sell the Enphase batteries I think they're good batteries and inverters and good That they can be installed outside
@talktosi

Heatable installed 4 x Enphase 5P batteries for me along with 18 solar panels with IQ8 microinverters. Performance is fantastic, and my batteries can provide 20kwh at a combined output of over 12 kw. I’m very happy with it. Just wish Enphase would hurry up and release their System Controller in the UK so I can add whole home backup

I live in a council bungalow that has solar panels on roof, do you know if they would allow me to get a battery installed?
@Heatable
@Heatable Месяц назад
Hi Neil, this would be down to your local authority to decide.

Have you considered using Hoymiles or Deye micro inverters?
@Heatable
@Heatable 2 месяца назад
Hi, thanks for the comment. No we have not tested or installed these yet. I'll pass the comment to the solar product manager.
@dukemaximus1639
@dukemaximus1639 2 месяца назад
Thank you for your consideration. With Deye and Hoymiles micro inverters you can do 4MPPTs and commission is easy and cost is less too. You would still have individual panel level monitoring without have 1:1 connections. Germany and other European countries seem to Mike’s ahead of us. Hence we would rely people like you to bring new innovation and early onboarding to the UK.

I don't believe it makes financial sense to use the solar to charge the battery because thats rating the solar output at the same price as the cheap overnight whereas if you export it you can get more than that,on Octopus for example, octopus intelligent 7.5p night rate export 15p. On the cold battery, yep, a relative of mine has a greenhouse frost heater for his battery (and insulation) because prior to that when the battery temperature dropped below 2C the battery would not charge.
@Heatable

Hi, thanks for the comment. Smart tariffs have really altered the dynamic now, lots of customer still enjoy charging the batteries from solar where possible, some are focused on grid import and export. We really rate the Tesla battery with the inbuilt thermal management. The functional operational range is -20+60c
@malk6277
@malk6277 Месяц назад
"Even on a day like this, there's nothing coming from the grid". How impressive or even relevant that statement is depends entirely on what the load is. If there's no load at all, then of course the PV will be sufficient to charge the battery and cover the non-existent load even on a very overcast day. So what was the load? If you checked, you didn't see fit to tell us, which doesn't inspire confidence at all.
@Heatable

Hi, thanks for your comment, the base load in the property is around 300w. With the usual spikes around peak times,

You mention the customer has been saving loads of money charging over night on a cheap tariff and using the energy during the day. How much money? What's the calculation? What is the cost of the battery per kWh, vs the tariff savings? The video promises an answer to whether it's worth the money, but instead we're getting action hero music accompanying the arrival of scaffolding, and bold claims that the battery is worth it even before adding solar to the system, without being offered any evidence... I don't mean to sound harsh but some folks tune in to get hard data...
@Heatable
@Heatable Месяц назад
Hi, thanks for your comment. The battery was installed ahead of our installation. To answer your question, the client is on a smart tariff and charges up for circa 7p. This is around £0.18p cheaper than the current standard buy rate. The annual usage is around 4000KWh so the client would expect to save up to £720 a year, plus any income from the DFS scheme or export.

Ah, I see... you don't know what part of the country you're in, but we're supposed to respect your authority on the topic. I expect some people stopped watching right there. Not me. Either it was an attempt at humor, and there is some good information ahead, OR there's a right train wreck of a video ahead which could be entertaining. I'm watching!
