Testing positive for group B strep or GBS is scary! When you're planning to have a home birth like me, I'm wondering if home birth is still possible and what my treatment options are. Did you know that IV antibiotics 4 hours before delivery isn't the only way to have a safe delivery when you're group B strep positive during pregnancy?
While passing group B strep to your newborn can be dangerous, there are evidence based ways to minimize the risk of danger for you and baby. Many women are told that using IV antibiotics are the only way to prevent passing this GBS bacteria to your baby during birth. What happens if you don't get there in time? You have other options!
Water birth, probiotics and improving your gut flora, closely monitoring baby for the first 12 hours are all great options to decrease the risk of your new baby becoming sick even if you are group b strep positive. I'll share more in this video. Feel free to check out the resources and evidence below to fact check me on these more wholistic options.

Thanks for sharing this! I was GBS positive with my pregnancy. After doing a ton of research I opted out of the antibiotic, and am so glad I did. I also can totally relate to the feeling of being pressured by those around you to hurry up and push the baby out like they’re just waiting around lol. So uncomfortable 😣

Good for you for taking initiative and doing your own research regarding Group B strep! Each persons risk and benefit of treating or not treating looks very different! I’m always an advocate for doing what’s best for you personally! Thanks so much for watching and sharing part of your birth story 💜

I tested positive for Group B Strep and was told I need to have the IV while in labor...nothing else. I also told my friends I would prefer to leave the hospital sooner than 24 hours and they said with GBS you have to stay longer so your baby can be monitored if you don't get the IV antibiotics in time (4 hours prior to delivery). If baby is fine, I don't understand why I would have to stay longer at the hospital. I also plan on doing a waterbirth. Thanks for the video, gives me more to think about before I see my provider again.

Thanks for watching and commenting. I'm always happy to provide what I hope is helpful information on this channel. Although, I don't believe there is ever a 1 size fits all piece of advice that will work best for everyone-it's certainly great to know all sides of an argument so you can make the best decision for you and your baby personally! Blessings on your delivery!

I just tested positive for GBS (35 weeks) I was told I can be on anti biotics during labour but I’ve also heard taking anti biotics during labour can cause babies to be very colicky. Does anyone have any experience post GBS positive with anti biotics if that’s true?

hi. Thank you for sharing this video. My question is did you get treated with antibiotics right away in your first trimester, right after your test results?
@brattrox2939
@brattrox2939 Месяц назад
Usually they just do antibiotics when you go into labor and they consider you GBS positive if you've tested positive anytime during your pregnancy

@@koilykarly2331 I think that you misunderstood what I was saying. I was saying that she doesn't know what she's talking about, getting tested in early pregnancy does not mean that you won't test positive in the 3rd trimester. It's done at a specific time for a reason.

@@jacquelinbarrero7390 dont worry lovely. I had antibiotics (IV) during labour as doctors recommended me and all went very well! after labour i took my son to private clinic where i specifically asked for CRP blood test which they did and was negative. i preferred to rule out any infection in his blood coz sometimes babies can carry and can show syptoms anytime so this is what i would recommend .i know some countries they do monitor babies only before they send home but in my country this is not enough and checking blood tests too before they send them home and thats what i did i also know that some countries they do not offer this blood test for babies in a government hospitals like uk but private clinics they do .

my reply has been removed, writing again, do not worry i did IV during labour and all went very well. healthy baby. but because some countries they only do visual check and not blood tests for babies after labour i decided to take him to private clinic where i did CRP blood test which shows if baby carries any infection this is good in order to make sure baby does not carry it as sometimes syptoms can show later . thanks

Im 38 weeks and found out I tested positive for GBS and tested at 35 weeks, I really wanted to labor at home, and im terrified of needles so I planned on no IV. What option did you go with and were you able to retest?
@DoctorNicole
@DoctorNicole 11 месяцев назад
I did retest and was still positive at 38 or 39 weeks, but I personally felt it was best to skip the antibiotics, and instead focused on the other ways I could reduce the risk of passing this bacteria to my baby like having a water birth. Of course we then monitored my son very closely after he was born for signs of infection. Thankfully he was completely fine with no complications following his birth. Wishing you the best with your decision!

Oh my goodness that sounds like a horrible experience! I’m so sorry this happened to you! Did you ever find out why your body responded that way to the antibiotic?
@madreep
@madreep 7 месяцев назад
@@DoctorNicole probably because it's penicillin which can cause a burning sensation when given via IV, and is easily remedied by turning down the speed of the drip. Something that a real doctor would know. I'm not a doctor, but have a masters degree in public health and work in fetal maternal medicine, and even I know that. I also had the burning sensation, it's not a rare occurrence, and I also ended up with a cesarean. But I knew going in that I might need a cesarean, but wanted to try vaginal first, so I had the antibiotics. I did not want to risk harm to my baby.
